Ex-Valve Veteran Joins Microsoft To Improve Windows As Games Platform. August 14, 2013 . 9:30am

Jason Holtman, a Valve veteran that helped shape the company’s Steam service for a number of years, has joined Microsoft.
Jason Holtman, a Valve veteran that helped shape the company’s Steam service for a number of years, has joined Microsoft, reports GamesIndustry.biz. Holtman, who left Valve in February under unspecified circumstances, confirmed the move, adding that his new focus at Microsoft will be on Windows as a games platform. “Yes, I have joined Microsoft where I will be focusing on making Windows a great platform for gaming and interactive entertainment,”

Holtman stated. “I think there is a lot of opportunity for Microsoft to deliver the games and entertainment customers want and to work with developers to make that happen, so I’m excited to be here.” During his tenure at Valve, Holtman was the primary point of contact for numerous developers that released their games on the Steam service. His joining Microsoft presumably indicates that the company is still interested in pushing PC gaming.

I am crestfallen today. I have been for the last two weeks ever since this G Rank, Super Hard level Alatreon DLC has been released grinding this monster for its rare parts. I thought I had enough only to find out I need four of something called a Skypiercer to finish the last pieces to my armor set for both weapon disciplines Gunner and Blademaster. I am taking a bit of a break from this arduous task but the funny part about this is that I received the ultra rare higher quality horn break part that I do not need but not the lesser one that I do. It will be such a triumphant feeling of joy for me when I finally do get the parts I need to make these armor sets. >_<

Wonder how much he will improve it, and what possible downgrades to Windows might come with that upgrade

Did anyone else see that both Konami and 2k have big reveals set up for GamesCon?

Red Dead Sequel and Zone of Enders 3 (that's likely not happening...lol)?
Wait, what? How?

I just realized something, there was a Red Dead Revolver before Redemption, and it was originally developed by Capcom but Rockstar bought it

I'm kinda really upset at myself. I came here a couple of months ago saying that I was worried that my new job would not allow me to play games as much anymore, and in the two months since that, I have played a total to 2 minutes worth of video games. I've been really busy, even on the weekends and have sort of lost interest and haven't been following things as closely as I would like. I didn't really mind since, other than the Last of Us, there haven't been any games that I wanted to play. But now the season is starting where the big name titles that really interest me are starting to come out and I just don't see myself having the time to play them, which is a shame because I can finally afford to buy games now. I was even saving to pay for my PS4 launch pre-order, but I don't think I would have much use of it and would most likely see my brother and his son mess with it when I'm not home.

On the bright side, since I know I won't have time to play most of these games, I think I'll just wait for some price drops online in the next few months.

Haha that's life man. Work so you can save money to enjoy your hobby only to realize you don't have the time to enjoy said hobby. You have to make time. Whatever it is that helps u unwind, be it video games, working out or whatever, ya need to make time. There are very few jobs out there that truly keep an individual so busy that they can't enjoy an hour or so to themselves. If you have time to browse and post on a message board, ya got time to enjoy a hobby or two.

Come on, we all know that one simply cannot game for an hour without there being the hook and desire to continue for another 2-4 hours.

But in all seriousness, I really don't have time to do much anymore. The biggest thing that's killing me is that I barely have time on the weekend to draw or do any art, which is my real passion. In the 17 hours that I'm awake during the average day, about 14 of those hours are spent either at work or commuting to work. That's why I've barely been able to post here or follow any news in the industry. Like I completely missed out on all of the big Comic Con stuff and I didn't even know there was an event this weekend.

Do you have any interest in handhelds at all? You could play some on your commute.

To be honest, the most gaming that I have done has been playing Candy Crush on my phone, but even after a couple of weeks I completely stopped. I wanted to get a Vita, but at this point, I don't feel like I need one, at least not until I see how works with the PS4.

Is there gonna be a way to watch Microsoft's Gamescom conference? I know you can watch Sony's and EA's conference.

I like the fact that occasionally MS gives free games with gold but it annoys me that every single time they do I already own the game. AC II, Dead Rising, Crackdown, Fable III.

Loved that they did Dead Rising and Crackdown because I never played them before. Never played the Fable but eh that was for a reason

Haha same here, altho i never owned DR2 or Crackdown so it was cool to have the option to DL those.

I can't stand the Dead Rising games.. Timers suck.

No damn kidding. I played the og DR and hated it so i passed on DR2 and now that its free on Live i gave it a DL, wow that series is garbage. I cant find one redeeming quality about it. I guess punching zombies with boxing gloves is, neat? IDK, i dont get it.

I can't say that anywhere without someone complaining that I apparently don't like a challenge. I'm fine witha challenge, I welcome it.. But this series and it's cheap use of timers piss me off. Don't bother exploring just do the story missions or you're boned.

I just don't find them that interesting on top of that.

The mall is pretty well realized in the first game and I like the tone of it but aside from that I think the first DR is just okay primarily because of the aforementioned stuff and the technical accomplishments it pulled off at the time.

Aside from that I don't think the combat mechanics are very good, Frank West is overrated as a character and the timers are way too brutal. I didn't even finish 2.

State of Decay is a much better take on the Zombie sandbox w/ a timer.

I could careless about timers or the story or anything.haha I just play through to kill zombies. I find it really fun and I love Chuck Green as a protagonist
