What do you guys think about what Bethesda just pulled by stopping a used game sale on Amazon? Personally I think it's BS, and a possible bad trend.
Basically, this guy bought a new copy of the Evil Within 2, but never opened it. He decided to resell it, and listed it as new as it was still factory sealed. So Bethesda sends him a threatening note, saying not only does he have to pull the sale of that game, but also never sell anything Bethesda related again. Going so far as to threaten to sue him, all over one sale. Apparently they claim him listing it as new (which it is) may not be covered by a warranty, hence the threats.
Jim Sterling pointed out the lawyer firm Bethesda used to threaten the guy with, has an entire page on their website devoted towards circumventing the first sales doctrine. Why was Bethesda trolling the used game section of Amazon, using lawyers who specialize in circumventing a law to protect consumers selling used goods? Again, pretty obvious.
I hope the stop of the sale of one $30 or so game is worth all the backlash they're getting over this. Though if the point is to scare people contemplating selling used games on Amazon, they probably are happy with the story getting out there. I say this as a Bethesda fan. Sure, releasing a million initially buggy versions of every game (especially Skyrim) is annoying, but I do like their games. They get me hyped with Fallout 76, and Elder Scrolls 6, and then pull more anti consumer BS.
