The Gaming Lounge: Beyond

I'm 34yo and since turning 30yo, I've felt weird being a gamer. I felt old and especially since I'm a console gamer and not even pc. I've gone back and forth whether to continue gaming or just quit and sell my xbox and thought I shouldn't even consider going next gen but certain games keep pulling me back in. I finally looked up info on gaming and gamers and found very interesting supposed facts!..

-"The average age of someone who plays games is 31 years old. In fact, more gamers are over the age of 36 than between the ages of 18 to 35 or under the age of 18. They are also mostly men, but by a slimming margin. Men make up 52 percent."

-"The average age of a U.S. gamer is 35, the average number of years a U.S. gamer has been playing games is 13, and only 29% of the gamer population is under 18 years old."

-"Gamers in the U.S.
In the United States in 2018, some 28 percent of video game players were under the age of 18, while 23 percent were 50 years old or older"

-"While 48% of women in the United States report having played a video game, only 6% identify as gamers, compared to 15% of men who identify as gamers. This rises to 9% among women aged 18–29, compared to 33% of men in that age group. Half of female PC gamers in the U.S. consider themselves to be core or hardcore gamers"

-"Among those ages 30 to 49, 58% of men and 48% of women play video games. When it comes to older adults, similar shares of men and women say they play (27% of men ages 50 and older, compared with 30% of women).

-"Gamers of all ages play online games, with the average age being 31 years old."

-"As generations have grown up with video games a normal part of life, the age of the average gamer also increases. While 40 percent of video game players still come from the 18 to 35 age demographic, some 21 percent are 50 years and older."

Apparently the average age of an xbox owner in 2017 was 33yo

Leaked Microsoft research reveals the average Xbox One owner

If this is all true then I finally feel unashamed and a next gen console is more likely in my future now!
I’m 41 and more into gaming now than I was as a young pup lol.

And you don't plan on stopping either any time soon?
I’ll stop when I die I guess. Not sure why I’d want to stop something I enjoy that much with a lot of long term friends, and that will keep getting better with technology. I just bought a gaming pc last weekend too so no signs of slowing down. :cwink:

I dont know if that is the right thread for this, but did anything big happen recently in the gaming industry?

On twitter there goes around that some female streamer made a video about the gaming industry, cancel culture and how evil the SJWs are...and im wondering if something big happened that i have missed?
I mean i should be weary since the quatering is supporting that streamer and others with questionable reputation, but still...i would like to know where this is coming from.

Last i checked the only stuff that certain people want to be canceled is stuff that SJW support.
Last of us 2 because ellies sexuality, Avengers game because they dared to have kamala khan in it, battlefield for adding female characters, DOA for wanting to be more than the game that sells skimpy outfits for a insane amount of money.

So im kind of curious where this idea comes that SJWs use cancel culture in the gaming industry.
Does anybody know more about that?

I have not seen anything but I am not that steeped in that side of gamer culture and I don't use the cesspool that is Twitter to know otherwise if they are up to another Gamergate type of false flag trolling.

That is awesome and wonderful father/son time!

Good when something imaginative comes out of all this, especially if helped by games.

So I completely missed that Death Stranding came out.

I do want to see how that plays like. Even if the gameplay isn't great I 'm intrigued to find what the hell it's about.

Is every game developer/publisher shut down because of the coronavirus or are there still some working? Are big titles still scheduled for later this year such as Cyberpunk, Marvel's Avengers, sports games, wwe 2k21 and etc?

I would have thought a bunch of delays are on the cards, although they can probably also be quite effective from home with modern technology.

Oh, I am quite sure a lot more delays are coming. Now, I imagine that a lot of developers could do work from home. But it will slow the process down, especially licensed games.

There's going to be ALOT of delays/games pushed back announced in the coming months, especially from the big AAA titles. I hadnt even thought of it, but any game that uses mo-cap is screwed bc you cant that from home. Even voice acting will be affected as actors wont have access to go to a studio to film their lines. Some may have a setup at home but alot dont.

But wouldn't most games scheduled for release this year already have that stuff done? Cyberpunk is probably already towards the end of development and Avengers would have been out in a couple of weeks but got delayed until September for extra development and polishing

possibly but time isnt standing still. The effects of this will be most felt next year

I mean, Day 1 patches are pretty much standard nowadays.

Yeah I know, I'm just in denial that Cyberpunk 2077 and Avengers won't get delayed yet again. Next gen games are probably taking a hit for sure though
