The Good Citizens of Metropolis: The Casting Thread

I hesitate to reopen old wounds, but I honestly can’t decide what’s more baffling: following up the first appearance of a new Superman with the Death of Superman, or using the Death of Superman as a jumping off point for the Justice League.
However I felt about the rest of BvS, when they ended on that it felt like the cheapest thing and I totally didn’t accept the scene. Left quite pissed off having something that unnecessary and so stupidly early and rushed in the conception of a universe. I felt absolutely no emotion to an event that should have been a huge deal to me.

If Gunn's DC universe and Superman fail after one movie then Superman will be meeting his Doomsday much sooner than we thought so they can reboot him yet again.
:O:csad:

If that happens, this time he will stay buried for a good while IMO. Three false starts too many, especially for younger audiences who didn’t grow up with Reeves.

DC/WB should just create a Superman anthology TV series where they can try out a different type of Superman every episode until they either find one that everyone likes and that sticks, or they realise after that futile effort that it's actually best to stick to the traditional Superman after all.

I dont want Superman to die but the visual of Doomsday is so cool. I wasnt as picky back when I saw BVS (I was 15 so you know) but even then seeing that play dough monster kill Superman in Movie 2 was really bizarre? I dont think I was even angry just confused.

Then of course we got the "That wasnt actually Doomsday, just a Doomsday creation method gone wrong." That makes Superman look incredibly naive to be killed by "Fake" Doomsday and then makes the real Doomsday look weak because his mutated cousin could do what he couldnt.

Not that any of that matters now of course lol

I guess it makes sense when your plan was to do a 3-5 film epic (Lois having Bruce's baby) that a studio took and tried to make a universe out of it. :o
With the Bruce baby plot line I actually would have accepted Superman’s death out of pity haha. :csad:

"I love you so much, Lois. You told me that Clark's mom and my mom had the same first name and stopped me from murdering him in cold blood. Can we **** and make a baby?"

"Well he's dead now so I guess so...?"

Bruce Wayne did bed Martha Kent in another movie.

I have had the same idea for an anthology series, only slightly different. Every season is slightly or completely different.

I thought it would be far more interesting on HBO Max, that certain writers and directors and actors of talent get one season of making a Superman series. Six, Eight or ten episodes, with the stories, and actors of your choice. No conditions outside of not Superman not killing. Take from the past, the comics, the movies, tv, and fresh ideas.

One season, actor X, and a traditional show, or not, with actors of any race or background. Season two, actor Y, and either a similar world, or a completely different Superman world, with different writers directors and so forth. Season 3, the same, and so one.

Get some people with a background, in another season find up and comers, in another, those with an unusual perspective. Some basic guidelines of who Superman is, or should be, but create a different world and perspective, no matter Superman's background.

If the audience understands what is to occur, I think it would be really fun. Every season, or series is different, enjoy the ride. You may like some, not others, may not like all ideas, but could be great fun, and great art.

You are drunk. Write it again. (This is just a joke but I also had no idea what you said)

Sorry if my last post didn't make sense. Basically someone mentioned a Superman anthology series. My thought, is at HBO Max, you give talented people the opportunity to make a one shot Superman show, 6 to 8 or so episodes, with the only caveat that Superman does not kill.

People who would not generally work in tv, or episodic tv, could find it interesting. The producers/directer get one season, then someone else gets a shot, totally new shot, different writers, actors, scene, stories, expectations, etc.

It might give Superman a needed boost, and we could see what people in the Entertainment industry who don't want to be tied down could do with a limited run. As long as the audience understands that one season to the next will be completely different ,they could adapt

Haven't seen him mentioned but how about the new Red Ranger and sexy pool boy from stranger things.

Dacre Montgomery I beleive is his name.

Also recently found I...mm "met" his cousin. keeping that G rated.

Dacre Montgomery? He's a good actor but I just don't see him as Superman, he's also 5"9/5"10ish so a little on the shorter side for the character who is usually characterised as tall and well built. Even Tyler Hoechlin doesn't look that big as Superman and he's 6ft.

Personally I'd like to stick with the tried and tested tall/dark/handsome route. I thought Cavill was perfect in the role tbh, but that boat has obviously sailed - so even though their names get thrown about a lot, if Gunn is going for a younger version of the character then 6"3 David Coronswet or 6"3 Wolfgang Novogratz seem like good bets, both mid to late 20s.

I just can't see it with Henry Cornstarch Cavill or friendly looking Elon Musk.

But you are right Dacre is smaller than the usual depiction of Supes.

I guess I'm having the trouble of finding someone in their mid 20s or at least looking like it that is also "built" like Superman, which can come in many fashions but also would grow up in the next 10 yrs to eventually look like Superman rather than the young 20 something they cast at the start.

Its gotta be an unknown surely. No one comes to mind that looks like they can be early Supes days and then grow bigger and into the role of later day Supes.

Just depends on what age they want Superman to star at.

We need another Christopher Reeve. Young, unknown, with theatre experience and eager to bring credibility to an iconic character. Simple as that.

Do you all think that Gunn has his Superman actor already lined up or at least he has someone in mind?

Honestly I Think he's cast already.

I would not be surprised if we get a Casting reveal at SDCC... At least that is what I am hoping.

If he has been cast already someone start staking out gyms in SoCal, to if any of the names have this new desire to work out aggressively . Just don't get arrested for stalking, I can't bail anyone out, too broke.

Also if a person is cast soon, we will know long before SDCC, Hollywood will leak, just like Washington.

@Monochron had a good pick in the DCU thread:

Jonah Hauer-King
- 27
- 6’1”

He will be appearing next as Prince Eric in the live action remake of The Little Mermaid.

Yeah, I mentioned King earlier, he's definitely in my top picks. He has this sort of Doc Shaner Superman look to him. I just would like to hear his American accent.

Oh definitely. Shaner’s art isn’t a bad place to start either:

This might be my favorite pick so far.

I agree. Just watching some videos of him an he seems sweet and charming, doesn't seem too posh. Has a good voice. I am all for him.

****ty trailer but there are some Superman moments in there.
