The Good Citizens of Metropolis: The Casting Thread

I agree he'd be a better Bond, though I'm not yet sold on him as an actor in general. I've only seen him in two roles and he might as well have been the same character in both.

It might be because of the characters he's played... but I can't see Golding as the "shy reporter" guy at all. He just comes across as too playboy-ish to me.

I'm wondering if it'd make more sense to wait for a young teenage actor to age up for Superman, at the rate that WB is likely to make a new movie.

Dylan Sprayberry who played teenage Clark in MOS hasn't quite aged into a Superman look, unfortunately: Dylan Sprayberry on IMDb: Movies, TV, Celebs, and more... - Photo Gallery - IMDb

Cooper Timberline who played younger kid Clark in MOS is still pretty young and might work for a CK-before-Superman movie: Cooper Timberline (@Coop_Timberline) | Twitter

Ty Simpkins (from Iron Man 3) is apparently a Superman fan, from the photo on his Twitter: Ty Simpkins (@TYSIMPKINSactor) | Twitter

Jacob Hopkins from The Goldbergs has a decent look that might get better as he gets older: Jacob Hopkins - IMDb

Asa Butterfield is starting to look a lot like a really young Chris Reeve in his latest photos: 33 Cute-as-Hell Photos of British Babe Asa Butterfield to Brighten Your Day

Skip the blue contact lenses. Supes has never had to have blue eyes. He certainly wasn't drawn that way in the beginning, and Chris Reeve was the first actor to play him that did. Plus, color contacts always look freaky (see: Routh).

In Birthright I believe it was, they made a point about his eyes being an unnaturally striking shade of blue.. it's been a while since I've read it but I'm near positive that was actually one of the reasons for him actually wearing glasses in that origin.

I agree though that the contacts looked bizarre, at least the ones used in Superman Returns for Routh in certain shots.

For me though the actor portraying Superman must have at least some sort of blue shade of eyes.. doesn't have to be as potent as Reeve's, but there must be some sort of tint of blue.

In that origin (which is my favorite, for the record) yeah, but it hasn’t always been that way and certainly doesn’t have to be, imo. I had problems with Dean Cain’s Supes, but his eye color wasn’t one of them. Tyler Hoechlin and George Reeves were fine Supermen without blue eyes too. And most early artwork of Supes just had black dots or lines for eyes, so...:oldrazz:

I'll probably get laughed at, but my outside the box suggestion is Joe Dempsie
( gendry ) from GoT.
He is 32 ( older than I thought ) 5'11, pretty buff, but, he doesn't have the "classic" superman look, but there is something about him that I like.

It's nice seeing different names and faces brought up. I'm not really feeling it with anyone so far just based on the photos and not their performances but it's better than the usual suspects being named over and over again.

Okay. I'll thrown a little known actor out there. Bryan Lillis. Former model. A few minor acting credits. Six foot two and has some of the look in my eyes.

I recall it being my one of my favourites as well, I do own it but it's been absolutely years since I've read it, it must be 15 years old at least. Really liked the artwork for it as well. The eyes/glasses angle was something it did I really liked, it provided some logic amongst the fiction for him wearing glasses other than him just showing up with them & expecting you to go along with it.. you've put me in the mood to read the thing again. :D

I didn't actually have a problem with Dean Cain's eye colour at first, but I do recall one of the early episodes in the 1st season, Lois was describing Superman to an artist & she notes he has brown eyes of which the sketch reflects that & not only did the sketch look odd but I was conscious of his eye colour anytime there was a close up.. which in L&C was a lot & it did kind of irritate me a little.

But you are exactly right, he hasn't always been drawn as having notably blue eyes, Reeve had piercing blue eyes but I don't think it was reflected into the comics until maybe the late 90's/early 2000's, I could be wrong though, when it seemed to then become part of his general appearance.

More guys I would test for the role

Not to take this to any sort of a MAGA-adjacent place, but if Cavill is out, I really want an American Superman.

You can't give me Brits as Batman, Superman and Spider-Man simultaneously, that's just too much.

I've mentioned this before, but I really would like someone who would look right at home on a farm in Kansas this time. I really couldn't buy Cavill has a corn-fed farmboy AT ALL. He just had such a refined, British Boys' School look. Even a simple baseball cap looks awkward on him like he's new to wearing them, lol. So yeah, if that means casting an American...or at least a Canadian...then that's what it takes!

So I suppose Thomas Beaudoin the Canadian actor who looks like Henry Cavill is out then? :p

I know what you mean about the baseball cap! Someone like Benjamin Walker kind of has that farm boy look but he's probably too old now.

Lol yes I'm sure he's out because he's too old, but not because he's too Canadian! He's basically the more rugged version of Cavill I could actually buy on a farm. But like I said, he's a year older than Cavill, so...too old.

I don't want to be mean, but I just...don't like Ben Walker's face for this. I like him as an actor, but he doesn't really have that golden boy look to me. Much like the discussion I recently had about John Krasinski, I could see him as one of the nerdier superheroes, because he's cute in that way, but not as Supes, whom I think should be a conventionally handsome dude.

I'm definitely NOT suggesting him for the movie version, to be clear, but Tyler Hoechlin is a great example of what I'd like to see - he's got that rugged Americana vibe, not ~too pretty~, but still handsome in a conventional sense. Almost a nice Old Hollywood look about him, but with a natural down-to-earth warmth that suits the character so well. And he looks right at home in a baseball cap. ;) So something closer to him is what I'd be looking for...but preferably taller and beefier if we can get it, lol.

Are these the cap auditions now? Whether he can convincingly wear a cap?

Penn is too short anyhow (not that there's anything wrong with that...)

Preferably, I would like a young Jon Hamm type.

This is where the casting director comes in and helps in finding the Jon Hamm type on the way up. Back in the day you had Lynn Stalmaster with Chris Reeve and Lora Kennedy with Henry Cavill. Kennedy had been fighting for Cavill for years. Kristy Carlson is the head of casting for WB now.
