The Good Citizens of Metropolis: The Casting Thread

Well, yeah, I don’t think that would be the best role for Metallo either. He’s an act one threat leading to something bigger.
I also just wanna avoid Kryptonite as a plot-point for a while, honestly. I've never enjoyed Kryptonite-based stories.

I like Ritchson and I'm certain he'd crush it as Metallo, but I can't help but think Reacher who's also the Terminator.

I would prefer a homegrown threat in the first film, but hints at Brainiac.
I would like the main villain to be someone like magog, Manchester black, or parasite.

Ritchson would make a good Metallo but I would rather see him as big, buff hero. I don’t mind the suggestion of him for Batman but I feel like there’s a better fit for him out there. Not Shazam though; Levi killed my enthusiasm for that character for the foreseeable future.

Anyway, I’ve always pictured Metallo as a bit more of a squirrelly kind of guy; a lowlife criminal and not a huge guy like Ritchson. Back when I was fancasting Metallo like 20 years ago, I pictured Kevin Bacon in the role. I guess he could still do it (and he has a great relationship with Gunn) but he’s probably too old now. Jesse Plemmons or Harris Dickinson might be good. I could also see Sebastian Stan in the role if they lean into Corben being a suave con man type (though Stan likely wouldn’t be an option with his MCU commitments).

I think I’ve landed on a good not-too-old/not-too-young candidate for Jor-El…

Morgan Spector

Hell, throw in Rebecca Hall as Lara for good measure.

I’m bumping this for the daylight crowd, because I think I was really onto something here. :o

Corben more often than not is either an American soldier or small-time crook/thug before becoming Metallo, so Ritchson would feel more comic-accurate to me. I also have less than zero desire to see Shazam again any time soon lol.

That said, I don't really wanna see Metallo either. Wildly overrated Supes rogue, imo. Could see him as a basic baddie he's fighting when the movie opens or something, but he'd be a terrible Big Bad. There's a reason he's thrived on TV - episodic villain or lower-level henchman at best.
I loved what PKJ did with Metallo. He took him from ho-hum thug and transformed him into a fascinating and tragic character.

I know there’ve been rumors of Perry White being portrayed by a POC again, and I can’t help but notice that Gunn has (semi)-recently followed Giancarlo Esposito on Instagram. I think that could work.

I know a lot of you have been fancasting him for various villains, and obviously he’s great at it, but it almost feels like typecasting at this point. Plus, he’s in his mid-sixties. That’s a better Perry White age than supervillain age.

I really want Giancarlo for Professor X but apparently Marvel is just going to bring back all the Fox actors until they’re 1000 years old so yeah, might as well cast him as Perry.

I love this guy. But he will always be Buggin Out to me

Wouldn't be opposed to Giancarlo Esposito as PW, however is he falls into the same category as someone like Hugh Laurie, in that while they would probably be excellent, they might be too old for the part.

If everything goes to plan & Legacy releases on schedule, Giancarlo will be 67 by the time it comes to promote the film, probably 70 by the time comes to (hopefully) promote a sequel nevermind anything beyond that.

I’ve considered Domingo for Perry, but I almost feel like the character isn’t meaty enough for the upswing that his career is on right now.

I feel like now is is the perfect time to jump into a CBM role for Domingo--he's getting so much attention for his character work. It'd be easy for him to pop in for a few days to act opposite Brosnahan for some classic Lois-Perry bullpen showdowns. Oodles of other actors you could go for, sure, but he could maybe give us something memorable with only a few lines/scenes.
