The HellBoy II: Golden Army Box Office Predictions

Of course, everyone knew that. They should've released it earlier.

It's very annoying that many UK cinema's are only haveing two showings a day for Hellboy 2

:huh:Its not out in the UK until August 22nd.

I think if the movie makes over $10 million over the weekend it will be a good weekend.

Did I say it was out/not out....No.
If you go and view cinema times etc Hellboy 2 showing only twice aday

Hellboy II deserves a lot more money, but suffered from one of the worst release dates one could come up with, next too this weekend.

This whole summer season has been plagued with bad release dates from studios...it got too cluttered.

This is the last thing I'm going to post because I'm no troll. But I think that the movie deserves exactly what it's getting and that this bad of a drop can not only be attributed to TDK.

Stuff like this is getting to be kind of BS when this is probably one of the more successful movie summers in recent memory, and it's been a big resurgence this year. Very few movies this summer have not done well. Even something like WANTED released opposite a powerhouse like WALL-E does well.

The only legit bombs this summer I think are THE LOVE GURU and SPEED RACER.

I SEE SPIDEY, I've known for years that you are not a troll. You simply have your opinions people do not respect because you pretty accurately predict the BO of certain movies, and when its not as big as some people want for their pet movies, that gets them angry.

I feel Hellboy 2 did suffer somewhat from the release of TDK, but not as much as everyone suspects. Hellboy 2 by monday was making less then "Hancock" and by wendsday it was making less then "Journey to the Center of the Earth" so other factors also go into why it is droping so quickly.

^True, but TDK will effect any movie out at the moment, not just HBII, it was a terrible idea to release HBII now, especially when the first wasnt that successful at the cinema in the first place.

I'm not convinced it had legs to begin with. There's a "One Month Away!" thread on the first page of this board, and it's not towards the bottom. The hype for this was going to be low regardless of the release date.

^Oh yeah i agree with that, Hellboy just isnt well known like the likes of Spiderman, etc. But if they would have released at a better time it would be making more money now IMO.

Definitely should have released it in the fall or spring. It just can't compete against the bigger guys in terms of staying power.

just got back from seeing hellboy II. the best comic movie i've seen this summer... yet. I still need to see TDK, which I won't see until next week, I want to avoid the crowds and I want to see it on Imax first, I'm going to see it more than once, I'd see hellboy again if I knew more people that wanted to go.

It will outdo the first movie. But there just wasn't enough room for it to protect its second weekend. Many predicted how bad it was to go inbetween these two BO powerhouses. But you know, not everything dropped that high on their second weekend. Center of the Earth is actually holding on pretty well.

Hellboy 2 simply needs a decent third weekend drop to hopefully surpass $80 million and beyond.

Yes actually it can, since it's another vastly more publicized superhero movie competing for the same audience as a far less well known one (that most people like btw).

Well those are two entirely different demographics, if Wanted had to go head to head with a juggernaut that was competing for the same audience it wouldn't made nearly as much.

I really wanted to ChewySpider, but you had to go and ruin it  .

Usually, the fanboys on here are leaping on second weekend drop-offs as evidence of a film being crap. What do they say this time? What happened with Hellboy proves that competition plays a huge part. And therefore release date. A very poorly chosen release date for this second sequel. Here in the UK, we don't get it until August 22.

Universal's Hellboy II: The Golden Army lost a disturbing 70.9% of its first weekend sales

Disturbing is right! 70.9% :wow:

WOW thats pretty steep - things are looking a bit shaky now.

It is pretty steep, but considering the competition it had, it still made over $10 million, which isnt bad, it should be able to make another $10 million or so in the week, then at least another $5 million next weekend. We'll see i guess.

If you are talking about the film i think you are (your name IS X-Maniac after all :cwink:), its simply not comparable, Hellboy is no wear near as well known as X-Men is, and X3 didnt have the most anticipated movie of the year opening a week after it.

Gutted us brits have to wait so long to see it though.

I was hinting partly at X3 but also at Ang Lee's Hulk and also at The Incredible Hulk, both of which had large drop-offs in the US.

X3 is more or less off the radar now and I was really making a point more with regard to Incredible Hulk which fell by 60.1 per cent in the US on its second weekend, a figure seized upon by many to show that the film was rubbish and that a reboot of a recent movie was not a good idea (thus trying to prove that rebooting SR wouldn't work either).

X3 is of course part of the argument, but i was thinking more of Hulk in this case, as its success was said to be a factor in deciding a SR sequel.

Fair enough, i was at least partly right then :cwink:. But i do agree that TIH proved that re-booting a franchise doesnt necessarily work. And personally i dont think it would work for Superman, but thats just my opinion of course.

Well, the big drop was to be expected. It's the same thing that happened with Star Trek Nemesis and Superman Returns (when they were against the Two Towers and Pirates Of The Caribbean 2 respectively). Having said that 70% is still a pretty damn big drop, but hopefully now that the water has calmed, TDK will probably start to lose some ground (I'm gessing 50-55% drop next week, not a matter of quality, just the mere result of over-saturation) and HB2 will have less steeper drops, probably ending with 70-80 million (maybe even 90). But I wouldn't worry about the possibilty of an HB3, it'll be just like with the first movie: It'll break even, with the international figures and all and then with the DVD it'll make it's profit, but we were going to have to wait for it anyway (with the Hobbit, which will give Del Toro even more good rep...hopefully) so no worries.
