The Hunger Games - Part 2

I just saw a screening of American Reunion. I enjoyed it but it's really really really banking on the nostalgia factor. I don't think it'll go too well with the younger audience (I feel old saying that and I'm only 24), and there are funnier movies out right now (21 Jump St. haven't seen Project X yet).

From what I hear, it sounds like THG will beat out Wrath this weekend.

Anybody here actually going to re-watch THG this weekend? I am ....
Thats about half of it, I've seen Wrath and trust me its not competition to THG or anyother movie released this week, last week or next week......I want my money back and my 101minutes of time..:woot:

I don't see why anyone would actually want to pay to see Wrath of the Titans after how weak the first one was.

As much as I want to see Wrath of the Titans, I want the Hunger Games to destroy it this weekend. I didn't hate the Clash of the Titans, actually quite enjoyed it, and I know I'd enjoy Wrath, but the Hunger Games is so much better. I have a feeling that the Hunger Games will be in the top three until the Avengers comes out in May.

was i the only one who hated hunger games. never read the book but the characters lacked depth and when people died i honestly didnt care because i barely knew who these people were. and the ending was predictable.

I wouldn't go so far as to say I hated it, thought it was okay. But I do share similar sentiments to you about not knowing or caring for most of the characters.

I just finished reading the book. Now I HAVE to see the movie... just so I can see how you make that faithfully without it being rated R.

Nothing in that book is R rated material.

Two simple things:

1. Shaky cam
2. Quick cuts

^Exactly.

Hunger Games is not surprisingly number one again. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/ne...er-lawrence-wrath-titans-mirror-mirror-306644 Honestly the movie is doing great but I did not understand these 53 to 55% drop predictions.

The movie is being well received by it's audience but I always err on the side of films that open so large being front loaded. Sure some other films have had that type of drop but even though the movie isn't a sequel, in this front loaded clement it was always bound to act like one. It's doing great and the studio and fans should be very happy with that drop as the movie is going to easily make over 300mil in total. Now the overseas numbers are fine but still not up to par for a movie making so much in the States. I mean at least it's going to do better than Star Trek so that's something but movies like this usually make at least as much as they do domestically.

Anyway it sounds like I'm dissin the overseas numbers but I'm not, they are fine but I just expected more because other domestic record breakers have done better overseas numbers.

Going into young adult literature expecting complex characters seems to me a perfect way to get disappointed. :) I mean, even in Harry Potter everything is pretty much black or white; the good are good, the bad are bad. The simplicity of these stories is probably what makes them popular.

After seeing this, I gotta say for the next film, they need a better director and writer/adapter. It is better than Twilight in overall story but HP films have better characterization. They needed to add more scenes on character/relationship development and the citizens in general, to make you feel something for them. I couldn't connect with any of the characters. The rioting was one of the more engaging scenes but it didn't seem to go anywhere. Very anticlimatic. People are watching children kill each other, yet in the film, it is treated so superficially. Why aren't people more conflicted. Did no one ever fight back before? If so why are people so dead inside. They needed to give more weight to these story points. It makes it hard to root for anyone otherwise.

I haven't read the books, but the entire time watching this I felt ok the concept is interesting, but this film would be alot better with a better director. Not just the shaky cam but the Peeta character was really uneven, especially in the cave scene. There are moments where I can buy him falling for Katniss but then there would be a cut and the next frame in the same cave scene, the acting is off as though taken from a completely different take. And I can't help but fault the director for this, in not helping the actor keep consistent.

Another 61 mil for this one. Can Jim, Stifler, and the gang take them down next Friday?

That's not true a couple of the characters do not fit this bill.

I agree that Hutcherson at times was really unconvincing along with his and Lawrence's interaction. But I also wondered if it was intentional because we knew it was suppose to to be forced because they had to put on a good show. So I'm stuck in between it was suppose to be bad or it was just bad.

movie cost around 100 millions and made 250 domestic in 1 week. :wow:

^i thought it cost 78 million with a 45 million marketing
i am insulted when a studio reports that they spend 78. if they would at least say that it was around 80. i hate with a passion when they report so accurate numbers. its to me an obvious lie.

i hope Jennifer was smart when she signed the contract for the first movie. if not then i hope she will be smart with the new contract.

What's the big deal? Its not like saying a movie costs $100 million when it was probably more like $200 million.

This movie was so much better than I thought it would be.

Sums it up. I went to see it with extreme skepticism and ended up thoroughly enjoying it. A sci-fi film that has wide appeal and almost no CGI? Awesome.

It could have explored the bigger themes of what it's like to live as a tool for the government to turn kids into fodder for reality television....but it touches that stuff enough to tease the mind to think about it and still tells a compelling story that can appeal to all ages and demographics without being dumb or empty.

Jennifer Lawrence's performance helps a lot. But it really is a movie that deserves its success. Turned me into a fan.

That's disappointing.

It doesn't deserve to be watered down like that.

I haven't read the books, but I didn't really find the film to be watered down very much. I found the violence to be pretty effective overall. The lead-up to the actual games was tense and when they finally started it was a bit horrifying. It was about the implication more than the gore.

THR said that she just got 500K front end.

Although Lawrence was paid only $500,000 to play Katniss Everdeen in the film, she is set to receive "escalators," bonuses that kick in when the movie crosses certain box-office thresholds (which by all accounts it already has crossed). She stands to bring in more than $1 million by the time the film finishes its theatrical run and can expect greater rewards going forward.

Just saw this, it was pretty okay - very enjoyable in a popcorn flick sort of way but it kind of lacked a real bite, wasn't violent, satirical or deep enough to really be memorable. Still a good way to spend an evening.
