Daredevil The Inevitable Costume Thread - Part 1

You know a lot of people say they want the Billy Cubs swinging device but realistically speaking how the hell would that work?

Well its logical if set up and explained well enough, I dont know if we will ever see him proper DD swinging about, but Id like it there to allow him to do some partial swinging, grappling, weapons etc.

The best way to do it would be further down the line, Matt is clearly not going to be able to invent this, but in the Marvel universe, Hawkeye in avengers 1 has that grapple device on his arrow when he jumps off the building. That perfect right there inside the billy club rather than an arrow, so there just needs to be a set up where he has a contact with Shield or some character from shield, or a character that has clearly got the brains to invent tech like that.

Perhaps if he just has clubs that shoot out a line with a hook, but maybe not actually reel him up. Batman's grappling gun is pushing it, a little stick being able to do the same is too much of a stretch for me.

I don't really mind the suit that much, although if I have to point out one thing I don't like about it, it's the eyes - they're too small somehow and I don't think they fit well with the rest of the mask.

Black suit was the best.

Again if they set it up and it came from a character that it makes sense Ill buy it, if Iron Man can being doing half the stuff he does then a simple grapple (again that it came from a good story place) wouldnt push anything for me.

And Batman's grapple is a home stay, one of the first items I think of in his arsenal even over the batarang. BTAS did some great stuff.

I didn't mind the billy clubs used in the movie

However on the show it'd be out of Matt's character to invent this contraption himself.

I'll say I think both the traditional comic clubs, and the Affleck movie clubs are too far-fetched. Not only in execution but to be created by someone who already stretches his day into practicing law, martial arts AND vigilantism.

Not likely.

However, if we were to see simpler items, Dark red metal tonfas. perhaps collapsible/telescopic...

And then separately, a grappling apparatus/kaginawa. Perhaps also collapsible for portability sake.

I'd be more than okay with all of that.

Matt doesn't need to invent a billy club gadget. He has someone to do the job for him: Melvin Potter.

I think the bigger issue is making it look good in action, without quite twigging too high a level of "comic book supertech". It needs to come off as something built by Potter, not built by SHIELD or Stark.

Yeah, I don't know why some think that Daredevil would make them himself, when Potter already made his suit.

Yup, Potter making it is perfectly plausible. And to me the movie billy club would fit perfectly with the TV suit, aside from the chrome/stainless steel. PVD coating strikes me as being the sensible choice.

I would love to see the swingning billy clubs, but I wonder if it might be too expensive to shoot such scenes (or to CGI them).

I feel like it could be a little too hard to do on a tv budget. I don't even know if it's necessary, especially when he already gets around so easily from building to building... Just watch that rooftop scene from episode 12 again.

I wouldn't want to see full on comicbook swinging, thats far too hard to pull off on a TV budget like people have said and would bring up a lot of questions in the context of the realism of the show. BUT I would like to see it to help out on certain things, repelling down and up things, and he going to encounter a roof gap he cant get over, that episode where he chases after the car to the drug depo while cool is a bit impractical.

Not to mention it would work for combat purposes and making quick getaways, honestly Matt would prefer to grapple up a roof than waste his energy when it could be used to pummelling people to a pulp or saving someone.

Also that manip of the concept art costume but made red with some minor changes is PERFECT.

The only issue i have with the suit are the eyes and underside of the neck. The eyes need to be a brighter red so they can be seen and not blend into the head gear so much. Also, the neck area is too loose and needs to tightly hug the underside of where the chin starts. Seeing any sort of neck flesh and no eyes really throws the head area off, IMO. I know the comic DD's eyes were one color with the suit, it just doesn't work in live action.

There is a part of me that wishes the costume incorporated some boxing-ish elements as some of the comic versions do in tribute to Matt's dad.

I really Like Lee Bermejo's Daredevil where he really incorporated the look of boxing gloves and boots and even briefs into the costume

Maybe they could have at least given the TV costume some MMA gloves? ha.

the mask looks a lot better in the netflix promo pics because of the reflective lenses. in the show they don't stand out and are sunken in to the helmet. here, and in the other two netflix promo pics, the lenses look like they protrude outward a bit, and the light catches them and gives daredevil a much better look.

Yes, it does look better when it seems to be all in red. I don't like the hexagonal-shaped ear pieces though.
