Wow, why am I not surprised

Damn soccer moms
They could've done this thing back in IM2 when they had the chance.

Well, it doesn't really matter to me anyway.

Can't wait for what they have in store for Daredevil and The Punisher.

Lol

...."The 'balls'" to actually use Fu Manchu sporting two fistfuls of crackerjack rings he nabbed off a dead alien dragon from an ancient flying saucer he found crashed in the Gobi Desert....?

This. Honestly, no disrespect to the character, but the Mandarin isn't a sacred character. It took alot MORE balls to do what they did with the character then leave him 1:1 from the comic pages.

I mean, I guess all the handful of hardcore Mandarin fans might be upset, and I literally mean a handful. By all accounts, Kingsley is still BY FAR the best villain of the series and rivals Loki as the best villain from the MCU as a whole.

Also, Repulsor Blast...you said you hope it won't leak out into the mainstream. It won't. 90 percent of the audience for this film has 0 idea who the Mandarin even is besides the trailers. By all accounts, the Mandarin in this movie is a great villain. That's all that will be talked about and rightly so.

I wouldn't call myself a hardcore Mandarin fan at all. Instead I'd say Mandarin is one of the few villains in Stark's rogues gallery who feels unique and interesting, and it seems a waste to use the character in this manner.

I would argue the "twist" (starting to hate that word) makes him even more interesting and unique. I can't really offer much more until I see the film. Maybe I'll hate the execution and agree with you. I just don't think people should dismiss it until they see it in action.

Well, I'm not saying that seeing the film won't change my mind. I'm just making an argument from where I stand now, just as you did in this comment. All I can really do at this point.

Yeah, the vast majority of audiences walk out talking about how great a villain Kingsley was, and there's that handful of ubernerds stalking out and *****ing about how Marvel raped their childhood and how they'll never watch another Marvel movie again (until Thor TDW). Pathetic, yet hilarious

Its a valid opinion. If they don't like it because they like the old comics better, then fine. Don't see the point of mocking it.

I shall create a cocktail containing tangerine juice, vodka, and something else I'll think of when I'm in the mood, and call it "Mandarin Twist" in memory of this movie. It'll be served with w(h)ine and cheese.

A question comes to mind: If this twist is so god-awful, why is nobody on Twitter or elsewhere crying about it? Where is the outrage? Where are the fanboys slashing their wrists vowing revenge on Marvel for raping their childhoods? (Those whining before the fact don't count. I'm talking about fait accompli whining.) The movie's been shown in many places for the public now, after all. There should be some backlash.

Friend that I talk to in Gold Coast Australia just saw the midnight showing. She loved it, sent me some pics. Sent me a pic of the
tony talking to Bruce post credit scene
which she confirmed is the only post credits there is.

What are the chances that we're gonna get the gotg mid credit scene on it's official release?

Did you read what I just posted above? She saw the official release at midnight in Australia and there was only the one post credits scene.

lol, I didn't know it was officially released in Australia :woot: sorry...

Seems they threw out a racist caricature and an over-the-top Saturday morning cartoon freakshow and replaced him with a fascinating, multilayered charismatic villain who the general audiences can actually believe in.

I am as big of an Iron Man fan as there is. I was using this Avatar name when this site was still called Spider-man Hype, and I didn't think anyone would ever make an Iron Man movie.

But I agree with what you said. The Mandarin was very over the top and had a lot of racist stereotypes to the character. That was common place in a lot of comics.

The Mandarin has been reinterpreted multiple times in the comics and this is just another interpretation. It doesn't make it the only one, but it has to work for this movie.

It's clear that they have no intentions of using Mandarin for the Avengers story line, and I'm fine with that. Really that story line is going to follow down the path of Thanos and maybe Ultron.

Let's not forget that the second post credit scene in the Avengers was not added until after the American premier - so it's still possible that there will be a second...

Friend of mine saw the movie yesterday at a private Dutch screening in Amsterdam. He told me there were NO extra scenes at the end?

Are they going the Avengers route again?

Anyway! I'll be seeing this movie thursday. Finally! Can't wait!

Anyone remember the comments Joss Whedon said about Iron Man 3 after he saw it? Does anyone think that when Tony gets the surgery done maybe that's what Whedon's comments were about? He said "now what am I supposed to do now? What am I going to do in Avengers 2?"

When we see that we automatically think he means "what am I going to do to top this?" But after hearing about Tony getting this surgery done did Whedon really mean "what am I going to do with the continuity now?" I don't know maybe i'm over thinking it, but i just got curious about this, what do you guys think?

I was thinking he was refering to
all the suits being blown up
... what's he suppose to do about that?? lol

After credits scene has leaked on YT.

Looks like (I hope) they may be doing the reverse of what happened with Avengers internationally - the Thanos scene was shown internationally while the after-credits shawarma was only for the US release and Blu-ray/DVD.

True but I highly doubt it. The scene they filmed was the schwarma scene, which was just a little funny scene thrown in for a laugh. With the Thanos reveal being the important scene. Now the
tony talking to Bruce scene seems to be another little humor scene.
if they add another scene that's off importance, don't know why it wouldn't be attached to all versions of the film then.

Are they better or worse than those frothing at the mouth, quick to defend any criticism of a movie they haven't even seen yet?

Seems to me that you've displayed much more fanboyism than anyone here who is unhappy with the twist.
