Ah, the old "I'm a better fan than all of you" strategy. Classic!

That is not what he said at all, Figs isn't like that. He's simply saying that some here are long time fans of the comics and that if something like the IM3 twist had been done to say The Joker or Doc Ock, or whomever the people's favourite comic is, then they'd most likely be pissed as well.

As I said in another thread I've always liked Iron Man as a character but never really rated his rogues gallery, I'd be classed as a casual fan who is more about the movies than the books, and fully get why the comic fans are upset, personally I loved the twist but I certainly wouldn't have had they pulled it with The Joker, their anger is not unreasonable.

So... Rhodey's [BLACKOUT]armor is the only armor left at the end of the movie??[/BLACKOUT]

I'm not surprised that fans of the character were upset by the twist, but it really does work...

As so many people have already said - Killian is the Mandarin. Like Savin's actor said in an interview - Kingsley's the mouthpeice. And he really is.

Also... Eric Savin / Coldblood was probably my favourite character in the film. Just thought I'd post that here... :woot:

EDIT:

So... Rhodey's [BLACKOUT]armor is the only armor left at the end of the movie??[/BLACKOUT]

Pretty sure it is, yeah.

Another note....

You can disagree with another guy's opinion without insulting them....

Nobody has denied anyone's right to be upset, hell I like the character but got my disappointment out of the way last summer when we learned he wouldn't have the aliens rings.

This can be applied within just about every thread on the Hype, unfortunately.

I know....and I periodicly post it all over the Hype as well as adding it to all infraction comments sent.

I never said they had but you made an accusation towards Figs that was completely false, at no point did he claim to be better, he was simply explaining that long time fans of the books may well have a harder time accepting this change, you got over an aspect you didn't like which is cool, but the twist isn't a detail change [BLACKOUT]it's a complete character change[/BLACKOUT].

Nobody has denied anyone's right to be upset,

Actually, yeah, some in here have. They have been told to get over it or grow up, or other forms of them saying your opinion on the matter doesn't matter so you can't state it.

The thing is that there are plenty of us who are longtime fans of Iron Man, who read and supported the comic for decades, who are not upset by the changes. Tony Stark pointed out that a lot of things in this series have been radically changed, from JARVIS to important villains and relationships, and none of those changes evoked so much table-flipping nerd-rage before. These films are adaptations of the comics, not copies, so changes have to be made. Not all changes are good, but the reverse is also true.

It's fine to rant, rave and even cry about it as some have, but it's equally okay not to be disturbed by the Mandarin twist. People calling for boycotts and other such absurdly extreme reactions just make me laugh. Maybe I'll absolutely hate it after I've been able to see the movie for myself, but I am not wasting my energy by working myself into a righteous rage before I've had the chance to watch it. The people who hate it, whether they have seen the movie or not, shouldn't get pissed with people who are not pissed.

That goes both ways, though.

By the same token people who are fine with it shouldn't get upset with those who aren't, no one should be telling anyone how to feel is the bottom line, and Figs wasn't doing that which was the main reason for my initial post.

I'm glad you are open minded, I think it's the best approach to movie adaptions personally, however I will say that the change here is by far the most drastic I've seen made to any character and I honestly think part of the anger is down to [BLACKOUT]fans feeling they've been duped, it started with Black saying Mandarin was a lame caricature, then it looked like he'd made a very sinister and badass update of the character, only it turns out he's basically made the character and a character within the film played by an alcoholic old actor,[/BLACKOUT] it's a pretty drastic switch IMO.

Here's a big comic fan who enjoyed the twist. I have some of the Lee collections, the Michelinie run, Ellis' Extremis, and even Fraction's run. And I loved the twist because it really worked. It's a highlight for me actually. It's ballsy and it works well in the film. It's could even be considered as a social commentary as another hypester posted and it actually helped emphasize some of the movie's themes.

And seeing the reviews and the crowd reactions, the general audience loved it too, meaning the twist really worked for the majority of the people.

I understand how somebody could get upset with it, but personally, I applaud Marvel studios for being ballsy and risky. Those guys are big comic book fans too and they took that risk because it actually works. BTW, this is my favorite superhero movie yet because of how unique and quirky this movie is. I can't wait to watch this again.

My mistake, then.

You are probably right, but I'm a hardcore Batman fan and I loved the statement Nolan made with TDKR, some people just don't care about comic continuity when it comes to film. I know I certainly don't...the idea of comic continuity is stupid anyway considering that's always changing. It just feels like people don't like to be challenged anymore when watching films, they'd rather have things be exactly how they want it and damn anyone that tells them differently.

Bull ****. I like surprises and as I've said more than a few times in the past, I don't want nor expect comic films to be exactly like the comics. I do like being surprised when I watch these films. I'm not one of those fanboys who wants the movies to be exactly like specific stories, panel for panel.

You're not the first person to say what I put in bold. It's a ridiculous statement because we're talking about one character, not the entire story but one character who was nothing like how he is in the source material.

I don't mind that his rings don't do anything, I don't mind at all that he wasn't asian. Like I said in response to HunterRider yesterday, hell, I actually liked movie Bane more than comic Bane in Nolan's film for an example. I'm not a hardcore comic purist, I don't care that Tony doesn't get Extremis and that the movie doesn't follow that story beat for beat. Once again we're talking about a major IM villain that should have never been used since this was in fact Not the character in any way shape or form.

This was almost as much of a bastardization as Berry's Catwoman.

Also, why are some of us getting **** for simply having a different opinion. After hearing way too many of these comments, I'm convinced that a lot of you are the type that accept whatever is given to you.

For the umpteenth time, I get, hell I'm sure a number of us who aren't happy with movie Mandarin get that these are adaptations and that things change. This change was immense though. It wasn't something like making Justin Hammer younger or Stark telling the press he's IM at the end of his first film.

Believe me, I'm still excited to see the movie, I just think(as others have brought up)that they changed the so called Mandarin into a new "fake" villain. They should not have used him at all.

I don't see how that's really an insult like calling someone a vulgar name but I'll let it go.

I never said that, nor do I think that about myself. I was simply stating that the people that are actually fans of the comics have more of an interest in seeing a somewhat comic accurate version of Mandarin in a live action film.

In other words, people that aren't really fans of the comics, I can completely understand that this change doesn't bother them and I have no problem with that.

He said people who didn't like the twist doesn't like to be challenged anymore when watching films. And you felt like he's giving you ****. So now you say people who like the twist are the type to accept whatever is given to them. So now you're giving him **** for having that opinion! And now I'm giving you **** for giving him ****! And now I expect you to give me **** for giving you **** for giving him **** because you felt he gave you ****!:cmad:

:funny:

Really though, I should have gone into more detail. I really meant that comment for the ones that are telling the few of us to "get over it" or to "stop crying".

The ones that liked the twist and don't care if people aren't happy with it, I have no problem with.

Put spoilers in spoiler tags guys....not kidding.
