Age of Ultron The IRON MAN Thread - Robert Downey Jr. Returning!

I don't see that happening. The MCU Stark is far less politically minded than comic book Stark. Plus
SHIELD probably doesn't even exist anymore after TWS.
I mean, I know everyone asks for a civil war movie, but I don't think movie Stark would ever be pro-registration. Also a civil war movie would be stupid for other reasons also.

Oh, it's not just that SHIELD no longer exists. AOS confirmed that SHIELD has been labeled a terrorist organization by the government now (that's why Coulson and his team are currently being hunted by elements of the US military).

As of that episode. Note the *very* tight timescale AoS is currently operating under. Assuming that SHIELD ( as opposed to identified Hydra operations ) will remain hunted a week, or a month, in the future is currently unjustified.

SHIELD has lost its identity now... from being a protector of peace, now it needs protection..

i think the rebuilding of SHIELD will occur slowly and secretly under Coulson, Hill and Fury, they might only resurface as an organisation by the time of Captain America 3..

I think that Agent Coulson (soon to be Acting Director Coulson) will have SHIELD on its feet and running in some limited capacity by the time AOU rolls around. The movie will debut around the time the second season of Agents is ending, so that timing would make sense in terms of synergy between the film and TV universes. That would also make AOU the ideal time for Coulson to reveal to the Avengers that he was brought back to life. (Tony's inevitable Walking Dead/zombie jokes should be fun. :word:)

I think it'd be cool if Cap becomes director of SHIELD. Who better to run it than someone with the ideals and optimism of Cap?

For a while i thought Stark would become the head of SHIELD. But after TWS, it wouldn't surprise me if it's Cap. He basically does at the end of TWS anyway.

Coulson would be better. He's got all of the ideals/optimism of Cap (who is his idol after all), but has much more experience in actual intelligence work. Plus, given how movie Cap has been portrayed thus far, I don't see him wanting to run a big government organization. It's not his style. Personally, I'd like to see them used the fall of SHIELD as a way to bring in Abigail Brand and SWORD. The Chitauri invasion also gives the a good way to explain SWORD's existence.

Not sure I really want to see SHIELD come back, if HYDRA infiltrated them for 70 years what would be the point of re-opening it? It makes more sense imo to have The Avengers take SHIELDs place.

Umm, because the new SHIELD would be very different from the old one. The Avengers aren't an intelligence agency (and most of their members lack any form of subtlety), or a covert team, and they're too few in number to do what SHIELD does. Having the Avengers take SHIELD's place would make absolutely no sense, they're completely different.

I dont think its possible to have international organizations like SHIELD without infiltration at some point. They are a major fail. Im just saying The Avengers are a more tightly knit unit who can watch over things if they had some extra tech to help them, as opposed to 5000 Shield agents running around the world. They arent the same kind of groups, one is small band of heroes, one is large espionage type organization but a Smaller group with less chance of being infiltrated is better.

And to quote Baron Strucker:

SHIELD and HYDRA two sides of the same coin that is no longer currency.

It would be more interesting if SHIELD were gone for good and fury coulson et al built something new on its ashes. Something more independent and clandestine with stronger alliance with the Avengers et al. A re-imagined SWORD perhaps, with a space.station base built with stark/pym/alien tech and wakandan/asgardian capital (or whomever).

As we saw Maria Hill is now working at Stark Industries, is SHIELD going to be restarted? I doubt it.

lol, i can already see it...

Fury: We're building a new organization...

Stark: Oh yeah? ... Wait don't tell me... it's called SWORD! ... Because SHIELD didn't work out too well...

Coulson: ... Yes ... actually it is...

haha, that would be the right reaction too. I dont know why anyone would be happy about a new SHIELD-esque organization.

so you don't want newly-released-from-prison Justin to be director of H.A.M.M.E.R? :wow:

just throwing out a question to the board. how would you all feel about an Iron Man movie done in the same style of 'A Scanner Darkly?' i was thinking about the problems presented by aging; mind you, i don't care one bit how old he looks. and some sort of animation is a pretty easy way to get around that. technology has progressed to the point where they could even make it look lifelike. it'd be a lot easier to capture the grandness of the Mandarin and Fin Fang Foom in that style, at least. just a thought.

Lets have an organization run from WW2 to 2014 and be infiltrated by the very enemy we were fighting all along....then start ANOTHER organization when that one fails.

EPIC FAIL

Except that now everyone knows how the old organization was corrupted, and thus can structure/run the new organization in a different so that that doesn't happen again. So no, there is no "epic fail" here.

SHIELD has been infiltrated and destroyed in the comics but it always arises from the ashes. Fury has also faked his own death several times (usually with an LMD). The MCU version of SHIELD will probably follow that same trajectory. Marvel wouldn't have gone ahead with an Agents of SHIELD show if they intended for Coulson and his minions to just devolve into a band of outlaws. (Although a second season that plays out like the old Hulk TV show, with Glenn Talbot chasing them all over the world, may not be out of the question.)
