The Dark Knight The James Gordon / Gary Oldman Thread

Remember, in Begins the Joker was introduced at the end, so he basically, for the most part, already existed.

Sure, but Gordon also says, "What about escalation? You're jumping off rooftops and wearing a mask" then goes on to mention a "new" guy who's got a "taste for theatrics like you (referring to Bats)" finally revealing the Joker card. In a sense he was basically telling Bats, that copycats are just around the corner.

bkey, i think that would happen in a little kids version of the film
most of his stuff is accurate. we don't know all the details for sure, but something like that happens in the movie.

This is from some call sheets from the Chicago filming.

The stuff about his wife getting the call from Stephens is on another call sheet that I can't find right now.

Why the hell does Gordon destroy the bat signal? That seems very very STUPID to me. Its like Nolan is destroying elements from the comics....the tumbler, Wayne Manor, and now the bat signal?

Maybe he destroys it because Joker wants to use it to call Batman to set up a trap?

That doesn't make any sense. The commissioner is probably making him do it for his connection to Batman, an illegal vigilante.

At the end, does Gordon stand on the top of GPD with a flair gun, and when Batman arrives, says "I couldn't find any bat signals...I destroyed it...lol" or some crap?

Well if every screenwriter followed that narrow logic all the batman films would be pretty redundant.

If all we wanted to see were aspects of the comics, than why make the film to begin with?

I can't see Gordon as a target, I figured he faked his death 'cause the dirty cops were out to get him...

That might be why. Good theory at least. I would buy it.

So... by the end of the film.. Gordon is commissioner, Harvey is Two-Face, Joker is in Arkham, Maroni is still alive and the bat-signal has been replaced??

It seems to make more sense, Loebs a legit target for Joker, but not Gordon, he's a nobody still, just a noise-maker in the department. I say Gordon does it to escape pressure from within.

As long as the signal is replaced everyones happy.

All correct except Maroni is dead.

where did it say that Joker was back in Arkham? He escaped in Begins but I didn't hear any rumbling of him getting back in at the end of TDK.
