The Dark Knight The James Gordon / Gary Oldman Thread

So who else here was caught competley off guard by
Gordon's "death"

For a while there it convinced me, until I said to myself, "wait a minute, what about all those shots in the trailer?"

^ Yes! And I was thinking...where were the other scenes from the trailer??

I was completely caught off guard with that one. I started to think maybe they just shot those scenes in the trailer to throw everyone off, I was literally stunned for the duration of the movie until he came back, I thought they really did it lol :oldrazz:

Oldman was Incredible As Gordon . Finally we get to see James Gordon as a hero in a live action adaptation of Batman . Where he does more than just calls THE DARK KNIGHT with the Bat-Signal where trouble happens in Gotham city .

Exactly, he's pivotal to the Batman and always has been, but only now have they shown this in full detail. They just hit all the right notes with almost all the characters

He truly deserves the title of Commissioner Gordon :batty:

I thought he was pretty average, considering his talents. Which means that he did a good job, but not a great job. A lot of his scenes, you could hear his accent seeping through. Not much of that happened in BEGINS. Not sure how that came about. Maybe because he was yelling more, but even then...

It threw me off but I knew he wasn't dead.

Because #1 there were all those scenes in the trailers.

And #2...ITS JIM GORDON!!! You can't kill him off.

When it happened, all I kept telling myself was, "But he didn't get to smash the Bat-signal yet!" Lol.

Overall, I thought Oldman's performance as Gordon was absolutely fantastic. A+

...oh and when he made his reappearance and saved Batman from Joker...my crowd cheered. :woot:

All 3 times i have seen the movie the croud chears when the bat-pod appears when the Bat-pod does the awesome wall flip and finally when Gordan puts the shot gun to the jokers head

hell the chase is the scene that gets the most reaction from the croud and im dying to see it in imax

Gordan was amazing in this movie especially in the last scene

What's amazing to me about this movie is that every actor, Oldman obviously included, are great at what they do. It's just that they were all 'better' in this one. I hate to reference Spinal Tap at a time like this, but everyone really did go to 11. The thing that frustrates me about The Dark Knight is this, some of the character performances were so strong, they could probably merit their own movie, Oldman's Gordon being a great example of that. I would be totally excited and happy to see Nolan direct a 2hr Jim Gordon movie considering the creative team in place.

Oldman really made the part come alive. It was great finally seeing the character with actual depth and development. Oldman as always completely dissappeared into the role. His performance at the end when he's
begging for Dent not to kill his son
was played brilliantly.

I totally agree; I was in awe at the Acting between him and Eckhart. Those last 30 minutes were powerful and filled with emotion.

Jim Gordon has always been my favorite character and I'm glad to see he's finally getting his due credit.

In fact when he comes back after the chase the crowd cheers so loud I've yet to hear his line after that. It's the biggest cheer of the film so far; that and the Magic Trick

My only complaint about Gordon is that I want to see more of him. He is certainly a couple leagues beyond the previous Gordon now that he is actually a character and not a beeper.

Oldman really stepped up as Gordon. He's much better than that fatass we got in the old franchise.

I felt bad for Gordon when he destroyed the Bat-Signal because you could tell he didn't really want to do it, but had to.

Gordon is really a good man, and I felt Oldman portrayed that perfectly. Gordon wants to help Gotham & is doing things he doesn't want to but has to in order to help innocent people keep their faith.

Best scene...When he has a gun to Jokers head... and calls him a Son of a *****...
Best line... when he yells...I was tryin to FIGHT THE MOB!!!

Oldman as Gordon is definitely a huge highlight of TDK. He was as perfect as a cinematic good-cop can be. And I especially liked when he "came back from the dead": "We got you now you SOB"

I'm in the same boat as you. It caught me off guard and totally surprised me until I remembered the first full trailer
when Joker said "evening commisioner" and I realized that something fishy was going on

Every time I've seen TDK I wanted to applaud with the officers when Gordon is promoted.

The scene when he points the gun at Batman and screams about how he needs to save Harvey at the end was one of my favorites. Gary Oldman did a great job and I'll really look forward to seeing him again if they make a third movie!

I kid you not, when i saw TDK in the NYC IMAX people clapped when the mayor told him he was the new commissioner. "Commissioner Gordon!" They also clapped when he captures the Joker on the street.

I loved his "I'm SORRY!...about EVERYTHING!" line.

The desperation of the situation really comes through.
