The Joker Thread - Part 1

I think McConaughey is frighteningly, tremendously overrated as an actor.

Having said that, I did think he was really funny when he was acting as the straight man to Tom Cruise's Les Grossman in Tropic Thunder. I really liked him in that. Maybe McConaughey could star in a buddy cop comedy movie with Detective Chimp. Think Jim Belushi in K-9. :crso:
Felt the same growing up until I saw him pull off one of the greatest performances for one of the greatest characters in history: Rust Cohle in True Detective.

I'm tired of everyone saying that The Joker "does everything for a reason" and how "everything he does is to prove a point". Let's change that, even though that becoming popularized could annoy me.
Agreed. Joker is truly a dog chasing cars. And that’s not a ruse. It’s a great line but it’s not exactly the truth in that movie. It’s really a description of how the Joker should be in the comics and in Reeves’ world.

I agree to an extent. He doesn't need to be some loose cannon; in the comics he's been able to keep up with ****ing Lex Luthor, so he's definitely a genius. Very manipulative, has some experience with chemistry, able to command large gangs, etc.

I’m talking about his randomness though. Other than trying to make Batman as uncomfortable as possible, I’d rather see a Joker that makes no long term plans.

I'd rather he make other people think he's "LOLOL RANDOM XD" rather than actually being that. I'd like him to be more sophisticated in that regard

You can be sophisticated and random.
True, I just feel like the general audience already has this idea that The Joker is a random loose cannon who doesn't plan anything and just likes to murder people 24/7; taking Ledger Joker's words at face value.

Basically Carnage/Cletus Kasady without the symbiote.

Well, just don’t feed into the misconception. I don’t care what moviegoers think. A new movie will train them to think differently if you present them with the right information. Joker can be sophisticated and random. I don’t mind if he has big plans, if it works for the story. But it can be done without being one dimensional.

I'd like a lot of his actions to be premeditated, and SOME of them can be improvised. But, he mainly plans stuff out in advance.

If everyone is ok with a Dafoe aged Joker, I’d honestly rather go Tim Roth...
If they want a Dafoe-aged Joker then I think they should at least really try to get Dafoe himself. He's got the best look and voice for that type anyways

I don't really like Roth's look for the character.

There are very, very few actors who look more like Joker than Tim Roth does. Or at least did, not sure how he's looking these days.

Going off of looks alone,

Willem Dafoe
Bill Skarsgard
Caleb Landry-Jones
Joaquin Phoenix (skinny)
Joe Gilgun
Bill Hader
George Mackay
Andrew Garfield

Honest question Andy: you watch any movies that came out before 2008?
For your information, yes. I just find the whole gothic 2000s era to be super awkward, even if I WAS born around that time.
