The Joker Thread - Part 1

Let's not forget the dialogue and actual performance. That was a weak spot too.

That said, I'd be all for Reeves taking another crack at a live action Joker that takes a lot of inspiration from Greg Capullo's artwork.

Oh definitely. I love a sharp Joker.

Total Mad Hatter right there.
If they wanna have multiple villains in the third movie, then I feel like this story should be a good option. I'd rather have more Joker, but if they wanna do something like this then really lean into the creep factor with everything.

For Batman, I like the idea of multiple villains as long as it's not overwhelming.

Little one-off bits like the parking garage scene with Scarecrow at the beginning of TDK, I'd like more of scenes like that in Batman movies. Make it really feel like a populated rogues gallery that keeps him busy rounding them up, even if some are little leagues compared to others.

Honestly, I'd be mildly interested in Joker and Scarecrow teaming up in the third movie like in that Knightfall story. They're both probably my two top favorite Batman villains more or less.

I’d like to see this just to see Scarecrow react to Joker being unaffected by his gas

Either that, or whatever it causes him to see just cracks him up. The latter would sound more interesting to me, personally.

Multiple villains huh?

How do you honestly feel about Confident King guys? Lol

Who’d they have to cast to get you on board? And there would be a hypothetical perfect arc for him by Reeves and Winter, who is still an underrated hire imo. What a ****ing get for your HBO spin off series. Lol

I don't think Barry is Joker. I think he is Mad Hatter. Made a Twitter thread explaining my thoughts

The best possible angle for Mad Hatter here would probably be a drug dealer.

Jett said there’s a lot of big surprises in the movie. Is Mad Hatter one of them though?

I suggested Stanley Merkel could be Mad Hatter’s real name, since Zoe is referred to as Selina Kyle and Dano is referred to as Edward Nashton (Matt Reeves doesn’t like the name Nygma? Or Jervis Tetch?). But if that’s the case, I don’t see Matt calling him “a mad hatter” at any point in the film. Especially if he’s just some drug dealer/cop. Where would the twins play into it?

Garfield Lynns probably won’t be called Firefly. He’ll just be some arsonist in a Firefly suit that Batman takes down. Which is all good with me because they’re obscure criminals.

Who was the source for Mad Hatter and Firefly rumours again? Was it the same guy who said Bane and Scarecrow? Bc I doubt they were even in earlier drafts. Which is why Robin, Joker or a chunky Court of Owls related role are the ones that I keep going back to with Keoghan.

Interesting theories though. I enjoy them!

"Mad Hatter" is apparently slang for a drug dealer though.

The twins would be Tweedledee and Tweedledum. Just his muscle for his drug operation. I agree, if he is Mad Hatter, it will probably be a more subtle character nod and not like he is another costumed criminal. Variety was the source for the original Ffirefly, Mad Hatter, Riddler, Catwoman, Penguin casting call information. That said, I can't find the article, only others mentioning the variety report.

I've said it before: look at Winter Soldier. Winter Soldier has six named villains with significant roles, depending on how you count them. There's nothing wrong with having multiple "villains" in a movie, its just a matter of having an actual use for them that forms a coherent narrative.

Pretty sure that leak was from The GWW and one other "scooper" site actually? It definitely wasn't Variety, I remember that much.

It definitely wasn’t one of the trades.

Would you guys hate the idea of Joker starting out as a young officer named Stanley Merkel who is a complete maniac? Representing the worst kind of person that could end up taking advantage of the law for all the wrong reasons. Lies his way into everything, abuses authority. People have gone missing under his “care” and it’s written off as same old Gotham b.s. He turns cops & civilians on one another, manipulates his way through life just to watch the world burn. No real motive other than causing random chaos. Getting a kick out of messing with everyone. Nobody really gets his sense of humour. Even corrupt officers think he’s bizarre and don’t understand how he got there, but they try to ignore . Gordon is sickened by him but he’s got real cases to tend to..

Stanley Merkel is underestimated, since he’s just a “young punk” in their eyes. One day he goes missing after falling into a vat of chemicals during a raid that Batman was involved with. Think Napier but a reversal of the gangster vs cop scenario.

The former officer appears in a sequel as a fully formed Joker. By the third movie he’s locked up in Arkham Asylum like Hannibal Lecter. He makes it his playground. Of course they find out that Stanley Merkel isn’t his real name. Who IS this devilish freak of nature? Barry Keoghan would be 34 by the end of the trilogy.

I don’t think this is happening btw but I love how each director completely reinvents Joker each time. So I’m throwing hail mary’s incase Keoghan ends up playing Joker.

I love the idea of Joker starting out as a corrupt cop. Makes me think of Stansfield, again. So I'm all for it

I think I'd only be able to get behind the idea of Joker starting out as a corrupt cop if he's already been Joker the whole time, right under their noses. Like in Endgame with that "Eric Border" character.
