Justice League The Joss Whedon Thread

We live in a world where critics consider MCU films to be "phenomenal". That's idiotic.

We also live in a world where annoying fanboys such as yourself exist. That's idiotic.

Hey look, it’s someone throwing stones who lives in a glass house!

To put his film critiques in perspective:

Star Trek the Motion Picture is easily the best ST film to this date and one of the best sci-fi films ever. It's pure sci-fi, an intellectual journey with even hints of mysticism, it's a complex piece of art, the visuals, the music, those ideas and way they are communicated. No need for some action scenes, some running around, it's just like some philosophical dialogue put on the screen. Love it.

YMMV

Normally you are hard pressed to spot the differences when a new director steps in. Like when Edgar Wright left Ant-Man but you can almost see EXACTLY which parts are Sndyer and which parts are Whedon. I am so sick of Whedon it's untrue. He ruined Age of Ultron with a jokey murder robot. Way to utterly remove the tension, Whedon. And I'm dropping this right here, right now, Avengers (the first one) is hilariously overrated. Winter Soldier and Civil War are MILES better with regards to plot, tone, action, and depth. Marvel is well rid of Whedon.

This. :cwink:

This belongs in this thread, too. :lmao:

Whedon's silence on this film is really frustrating. He's going to be interrogated by the press about this sooner or later, so wouldnt it be better to rip the band aid off now and get in front of all of this and say his piece? Cuz, its looking more and more like he really doesnt give a **** about this film.

How often has Tony Gilroy talked about Rogue One? He did the same thing Whedon did.

The Wrap article basically confirms a lot of suspicions/theories about Joss's involvement.

Whedon is really not at fault. At the end of the day, he was a hired gun by WB to Marvel-ise Snyder's film.

This explains so much, thanks for the find! Haha!

What's so funny about liking ST:TMP?

A glass house? Should I delete those films from my sig just in case someone could ridicule me because of them?

So when someone write things against BvS because he thinks it sucks, it's alright, when someone do the same with MCU, it's not alright. Sure. :o

Is this going to be the defence from now on when anyone criticises WB decision making?

“B...b...but Marvel! But critics!”

A comment about the poor decision to make BvS as an R rated movie, has literally nothing to do with Marvel or critics, so why even bring it up?

People get annoyed and whine about how they hate Marvel comparisons and the ‘war’ between fans. Not bringing them up on an entirely unrelated topic would be a good start in stopping all that.

Somebody considers Batman and Superman R rated film to be something idiotic. Somebody else considers film critics over-praising mediocre unchallenging films idiotic. Just an example of what different people can find idiotic about this whole situation.

How can you possibly believe that making a Batman/Superman movie that is not suitable for children is not idiotic from a financial or creative standpoint?

Financial? Of course non-R movie makes more money... Creative? Depends on what the R rating is used for...

Eh it can work, but you have to do hard work to make it work.
Having those two big names in a R-Rated movie is a huge gamble, but it can work.
Its easier to go with a Marvel like movie with those two than going with a gritty tone.

Where do you get that from my comment? Writing something stupid is simply writing something stupid. You wrote something stupid and got called out on it.

Frankly, I don't care what it's used for. In no realm of reality does a great and memorable Batman/Superman movie need to be R-rated. None. There is something seriously wrong about restricting children from seeing movies about these characters. It doesn't matter how you slice it. Just because you can do it doesn't mean you should.

Not your comment, of course.
Stupid? For you...

On one hand, I agree, on the other, I totally disagree.

TDK trilogy was not suitable for kids especially TDK ( which had an R rating before being edited) nor were the Burton movies (which showed Batman killing people and strapping bombs to them) but I don't hear or see anyone complaining about them. SvB was on the same level and tone as those movies so why say that about this movie but the other movies get a pass? Is it because you personally didn't like the movie?

Was Superman Returns for kids ? Or, how about Ang Lees' Hulk ?

Considering that I watched the Burton films as a child without adult supervision, I find them perfectly suitable for children. And I seem to recall kids having a great time with the Nolan films as well.

How did those perform at the box office?

I recall the same with SvB. I just find it more of the die-hard fans who take issue with it.

In any case, this is perhaps a silly argument to have at all, considering the studio made the necessary cuts to get a PG-13 version of BvS in theaters. So cooler heads prevailed in that sense.
