Justice League The Joss Whedon Thread

You know what, **** this. I want to be the guy at the DGA who checks these prints and makes sure everything is up to code. That is my new career.

I like variety and trust them. Like it or not, JW shot several new scenes, and probably reshot a lot of the old ones.
We may not know for months or years just how much tho, but if that figure from variety is correct, it is substantial.

My bad --I read that DGA section wrongly. Yes it refer to the rule about the lettering and font size on film print. :lmao:

I think that section of the DGA rules is referring to the font size of the director's credit as it appears on screen. It's not about the contribution threshold by co-directors. :word:

Yup.

Yep, I read it quickly on a phone and just skimmed over it and assumed everyone else was talking about actual footage filmed.

HE'S NOT GETTING A DIRECTING CREDIT. HE CAN'T.

And I don't think he's getting a writing credit. Punch up dialogue and connective tissue for Snyder sequences doesn't sound like something that we'll give him a writing credit.

The Tony Gilroy example with Rogue One is bad. Gilroy changed the structure of the story.

If you want an example, look at Patty Jenkins and Wonder Woman. Charles Roven said she did the heavy lifting with the script dialogue, but she didn't get a writing credit.

Is he not getting a directing credit?

What a hack! /s

Whedon is in the catbird’s seat without formal credit. Everyone and his uncle knows that Whedon’s has taken over JL. So if the movie is good, he’ll get the accolades. And if it’s bad, he can truthfully say it’s still a “Zack Snyder film” - it says so in the credits. :o

Tom Stoppard once rewrote a majority of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade under a pseudonym.

Something to keep in mind.

Honestly I'm surprised they're not pushing back the release date but I trust Joss

I don't think they can, at least not without announcing to the whole industry "We have no confidence in Justice League", which would make rescheduling horrible.

They can make the release date, it's just going to cost more money to make sure everything gets done on time.

Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis on their commentary for Back to the Future talked about how when the studio realized they had a big summer event movie on their hands asked if they could get the movie out in time for a summer release. The Bobs said yeah they can, but in order to do so you will have to sign some checks. Basically, we need to spend more money to get things done quicker and put a rush on things to get it done at such time.

Makes sense.

More cost to get more men power and overtime, and probably compensation for busted livers from work overload.

zack brought him on to write a few additional scenes, so it makes sense.

Yeah this is what I expected. Since he worked on additional scenes, its only fair he gets a credit. Plus he is finishing the movie, so he deserves some sort of credit.

Full credits :

And if JL is good he will get credit.

And if JL is bad...He will also now have hand in that.

Before anyone else comes in going with what about Snyder's bad stuff blah blah. Well, no one forced this bald man to do it. He apparently saw a cut of the film and then wrote additional scenes for it, took the directing job, and brought his own composer of choice etc. Yes, if that film is bad or distorted he will also be at fault. No one is walking away without a scratch if the film sucks.

I like to look at the positive. I think there was enough stuff he liked to even consider working on it in the first place. His own love for DC characters, which he has talked about in the past. His opportunity to get his hands on WW and Batman/Superman all in one film etc. I'm hoping for the best. I for one cant wait what he does with Batgirl.

If the JL script is good, Joss should get credit. Terrio a bit more, but Joss too. If its bad...well lets not go into that yet.

IF...he was brought in to "save" the project, meaning turn a "bad" film into good, and he had the freedom and resources to add material and make changes and adjustments...and it still fails...I don't know what to say. No excuse. Two of the best CBM directors on one mega project and fail..:cmad::csad:

From what we have seen so far, the film has the epic-ness and grandeur of a spectacular movie experience. It looks incredible and the scenes we have seen so far are wonderful. If Joss put in some connective tissue and buddy film fun to round it out, it should be great.

I think you are right in that Joss would have steered clear if it was unwatchable and un-saveable and did not have the freedom and time to resurrect it. It will be hard for him to walk away clean if it fails, unless he burns a lot of bridges...

As for your Batgirl comment...with everything he is facing with the Ex... I think it's safe to say everyone is waiting to see what he will do with Batgirl ! :sly:

I still hope Zack comes in for a final polish...and hope he has been keeping an eye on it from afar.

If its good its good, if its bad its bad. In cases like this, its all speculation, so i dont think who did what and who is to blame or be praised should be really pondered too much. It will, of course, but... I dont think it should.

Because all you are going to get, WHATEVER HAPPENS, is some Snyder fans or some Whedon fans ("some" being the key word here; i dont adhere to the whole "X" fans are this or that notion; EVERYONE who´s got fans gets ALL kind of) will annoy us to no end.

If its a masterpiece its gonna go "See? See? Zack is a hack and you needed Joss to save it!". If its garbage its gonna be "See? Your god Joss Whedon is not all that after all, eh?".

Please, just... dont. If its good, great. Celebrate. If its bad... Myabe the next one will be better?

Unless we get reliable word, I would like to believe the official story.

Zack was making the film, and had a rough cut ready. He wanted to add some additional scenes. He brought in Whedon to write them. Tragedy struck. Zack asked Whedon to complete the movie.

Now if the movie is good, its Zack's movie so he gets the praise. Terrio and Whedon had a hand in the script so they get a lot of credit as well. If the movie is bad, then...lets just say a lot of hate will be directed at a lot of people. If the movie has bad visuals and bad story and plot, Zack and Terrio will catch a lot of flak. If the new scenes are easy to identify and stick out, Joss will get a lot of flak. If the music is bad, Joss will get blamed.

I wont blamed Joss for the overall edit, because I think WB has final cut privilege, and the suits and producers dictate overall things like runtime and which scenes to cut/keep. Zack and co, assembled a rough cut anyway, so its not like he had build the film from ground up.

Anyway, lets just hope for the best. That they already had a great film, and Whedon's additional scenes would make it even better.

did Chris Terrio get the blame on BvS?

I don't know if anything could be so unwatchable that you would consider it unfixable... when the property already interests you and you're given free reign to add and trim. Just as an exercise, I think a lot of folks could be given the average Resident Evil film and find an angle where they think it can be made to “work".
