Justice League The Joss Whedon Thread

Snyder is Producer for WW2 and Executive Producer for Aquaman. That's all.

Agreed. Strange, Ragnarok, GotG 2, all just ok movies but since MCU appeals to so much people they're more than fine.

I think DCEU will focus on solo films now, trying to continue in the path of WW (another MCU-like over-rated film :funny:). Hope they know they cannot marvelize their franchise since that's pointless, so maybe they'll finally take more time to properly develop those films instead of rushing them.

I agree with you that WW was overrated. Still a decent flick, the best in the DCeU for me but that doesn't say much. The film is nowhere near the praise it gets. However WW is DC's only light at the end of the tunnel right now. They need to focus on their stronger points, and WW just so happens to be one of those.

damn Consona you really dig this Snyder dude huh?

I'm a big fan of MoS, BvS UE, truth, justice and stuff but if he reduces the chances of more supes movies/involvement in cinema then

Since Aquaman is finished, WW 2 contracts signed, they'll just try win people over, step by step. I even think after how they treated Snyder and Ayer they'll have more problems getting me back to the cinema seat then general audience members.

Whom am I kidding? Where's my Aquaman ticket??? :funny:

:lmao:

I just loved MoS and BvS, I haven't even seen all his movies.

To me, I'd rather have two fantastic Superman flicks than a ton of mediocre ones.

I sure as hell will more likely rewatch MOS and BvS than Superman Returns.

But I also really disliked Zack's zombie movie, mostly for its ending.

Whedon's output is also varied to me.

As a fan of George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead since its release, I can affirm that Zack's remake surprised the hell out of me, and I appreciated that it wasn't a carbon redo of the original. The ending's good. (Now, if it only had a new soundtrack by Goblin...)

You can be the biggest dc fan going. You can love the tone and enjoy the movies.

But 4/5 of tbese films are badly made bits of tripe. Jl was offensively bad, as was ss. Batman v suoermena was a mess and man of steel fall below the category of mediocre. They are by every definition of the word, bad films.

There's a reason critics love marvel films. They are well made beautifully shot coherent movies. They also have comeptent directors who know what they are doing

Zack’s remake of DotD is really good. Like, easily his best movie in my opinion good. He takes a classic horror movie and does an extremely effective job of updating it to a modern sensibility. Sure, some the capitalist subtext is lost, by he injects the film with such a great pace, some excellent worldbuilding, and a very good narrative from start to finish.

I really wish Zack had done more horror. It’s clear from his aesthetic that his style works for the genre very well.

How many people here believe that the Everybody Knows music was actually Joss' choice?

I actually liked most of Joss' contributions but these memes are great

I don't think he would straight up lie about it.

No, but he is also known for being a wise-ass. Like, he could be busting chops, or he could just mean that he chose to leave that scene in rather than delete it.

It just feels like such a Snyder-y scene and so out of place with most of the rest of the movie that it feels strange that Joss would choose to have that there.

Contributions from Joss that I liked:

Some of the humor (lasso scene was great, and some of other moments of levity at the right time really worked, other times it undercut the tension), but overall, I thought the humor removed some of the stakes.

The scenes between Batman and Diana (the one where he calls her out for hiding in the shadows and brings up Steve Trevor and she pushes him) and the one when he helps her with his shoulder.

The scene where Bruce talks about Clark being human to Alfred.

If it was Whedon that chose the freeze breath, then I'm glad for that as well, though again, don't know if Snyder had also planned for that. But I'm glad we got it.

Outside of that, I am hard pressed to know of any specific Whedon scene that I definitely liked. I am sure there are moments that I liked but didn't know they were Whedon, but I know both creators very well (watched pretty much everything Whedon has done and have been a big fan). Perhaps Whedon was responsible for why the cast clicked so well, but I can't know that without seeing Snyder's movie.

Ultimately, I feel like we traded a more epic film for a smaller, more bland version that was buoyed by its humor.

If Whedon did choose Everybody Knows for that scene (assuming Snyder had shot that scene), I have to give props to Whedon as I really liked that scene and it felt like very Snyder-y music to match the imagery.

Ya know, maybe Joss really did choose "Everybody Knows" for that scene. Considering the footage is definitely Snyder, and Junkie XL was fired, it's very possible that Snyder had cut the intro montage to music composed by Junkie. When Junkie was fired, Joss chose to use the "Everybody Knows" track instead.

Maybe Snyder wanted to use the original song?

It's been reported that the scene of Lois getting up in bed and looking all sad was repurposed from the second act. That was supposed to be when she was called by Alfred to be Bruce's contingency plan. So maybe it was all Snyder footage but there was no montage at all before Whedon took over. Just scenes of Martha at Clark's grave and Lois at the Superman memorial and other stuff.

Marvel does not have beautifully shot movies. Life of Pi is a beautifully shot movie. Marvel's camera work is the very definition of 'by the numbers'.

Yeah, to some extent i like this Frankenstein version of the movie.
There are some really good scenes from both Snyder and Whedon...so im thorn.

Yeah I found that hard to believe as well. We know that Snyder shot the opening montage, but maybe Joss decided to use Sigrid's cover, over the original. Or maybe he is just talking about keeping it in there and not about adding it himself.

Either way I thank the person who added Sigrid's cover. I got introduced to her music, and she is an angel. So beautiful. And her voice is unbelievably good.

:funny:

Yeah.

But I could have done without Whedon's cringe worthy dialogue tho.
