Justice League The Justice League Casting Thread - Part 4

i really doubt we'll see john since they wanted to kill him off in the comics. if they're truly looking at black actors for this movie it will more likely be for cyborg. since he's in the comics now. green lantern will be hal. flash will be barry, batman will be bruce.

a manip of morgan freeman when he was like 40! Or when Denzel was around that age.

It's possible they might have wanted to kill him off to test his popularity. In any matter, his death has been cancelled and that can attest to the amount of people that actually know and prefer him as the GL.

I see it from a financial success point of view.

Yea, but if that's the case then why not just cast other top leading men, big name A-listers for the other JL roles. The reason of casting Will Smith as John Stewart for "financial success" is meh to me lol. Yeah sure let's be honest.....if you cast any vet A-List actor I'm sure they will do well in the role they are given 7 or 9 times out of 10. However, just cause an actor is a big name and good actor doesn't mean they should be given the role. Heck by that frame of thinking I could see why certain Hollywood shot-callers thought it was a good idea to cast Nick Cage in a Superman role.

Man, I'm so glad we got Henry Cavill as Superman and not someone like Tom Cruise. I love Tom's films and think he brings an intensity and element to all his roles and films, but that doesn't mean I want to see him as Superman...even if the movie would make millions of millions of dollars.

I like Will Smith, but not all of his movies are good though make money. Wild Wild West was an entertaining fun popcorn movie, but it did suck in many ways. However, it's one of those movies that I always watch when it comes on, but honesty it's not a good movie...well comparatively lol.

Anywho, my top choices for a John Stewart are:

Lamman Rucker (The Temptations, many Tyler Perry shows)

Derek Luke (Notorius, Capt. America, Seeking A Friend...World)

David Oyelowo (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Red Tails)

There are a few other black actors in their late 20s to early/mid 40s that I think would also do a great job; I just don't feel like listing them all or even more lol.

However, I would like John to have a strong presence, and some uncertainty about doing what he is told and doing what he believes to be right. For me that is what differentiates himself from Hal Jordan. Jordan is conflicted with making the right decision, rising to the occassion, living up to expectations and responsibility and caring for others but letting them know that. Where as John is conflicted with doing what is right vs. what he is told, going against orders, but at the same time being honorable and doing his duty for the greater good and always putting others above himself, but needing to be selfish at times for his own good. So having a mature, war vet whether young late 20s/early 30s or old late 30s to learly/mid 40s is ideal to me....then again that is a big age range lol.

However, if they go with Hal I think Reynolds could do a better job with better direction.

My top choice is Duhamel though. He is Hal Jordan IMO.

I have only seen Duhamel in Transformers as well, but honestly if they just took the character he playes in Transformers, slap a green mask on him and a ring - voila! You got a perfect Green Lantern for a JLA film, IMO.

Yes!

:up::up: Right on man.

I think Duhamel is perfect casting. Even if the movie sucked he still would have made an awesome GL, IMO. ...manips, anyone?

Here's a perfect candidate for Guy Gardner - Tatum !

I've been thinking, we have seen a John Stewart GL in the animated show, we've had a live action Hal Jordan (might as well call it a failure), why not have Kyle Rayner in Justice League. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they dont want to use Guy Gardner, but never any mention for Kyle.....he is after all the GL Torch Bearer lol

Will Smith is an A-list actor. WB probably wouldn't want to pay him such a high salary epecially if they intend to make a franchise which means locking an actor into a contract for multiple movies.

Unless someone like Will Smith is willing to take a paycut WB will be looking at cheaper actors.

Smith will never do a movie where he (or one of his kids) is not the star. Plus, WB and Nolan or whoever is in charge will not want to cede so much control to Smith for an ensemble part. Smith is one of those actors who has his people rewrite scripts. It is why he was not in Django.

Besides, there are better choices. Elba is a good one I've seen. But there are many others who are not rising stars who can easily do that role.

Thank God he did not do Django Unchained that would have been terrible casting.

given that snyder may be involved in a jl film, and some people mentioning that he may cast people he's already work with, I'm back on the patrick wilson as barry allen bandwagon. he's 39. rdj was 41 when he got cast as tony stark.

you're the second person who's said this. has he actually said this or are you just repeating what lencho has been saying in the other thread?

I would enjoy seeing Patrick Wilson play Lex Luthor.

Look at his career. Ever since Independence Day, he has not done a movie where he is not the star. And he also has a team of people who review scripts and often rewrite them for him. He famously turned down both The Matrix (for Wild Wild West) and Django Unchained (for After Earth), because the filmmakers would not allow his people to rewrite the movie for his brand.

Think about all the sci-fi blockbusters he's in. Men in Black films. I, Robot. Wild Wild West. Hancock. I Am Legend.

He plays a very specific guy who is in all of them. It is a brand that has been carefully cultivated for well over a decade.

because that movie made him a massive star.

the first I've heard of this was with django, and I'd like to know specifically what. as much as i liked that film, the over use of the n-word was a bit of a turn off.

what a heroic one?

all that tells me, this is the sort of film that would be right up his alley. i mean i get what you're trying to allude to, and obviously if he thinks that john stewart should be "the guy" he'd be wrong but, he did turn down superman, so I'd assume he knows what the deal is with dc characters.

Im not black myself, but I don't see why people are complaining about the over-use of the N word in Django. Like Quentin said, they used it just as much for real back then in those situations so theyre just telling the story. Also, I listen to enough hip-hop and have had colored friends who use it all the time so I don't know what's so uncomfortable about hearing it. Especially when QT already used it a lot in his 90s movies.

Will loved the script but if he thought the N word was a little too much, I guess he just wasn't meant to play that part.

With the right paycheck Will might do Justice League but it is one of the lesser characters who now has a past movie that's quite the joke. He might look at it like "oh they want the token black guy as a superhero....well I played the black superhero in Hancock so no".

it was a fantasy film. i don't know how you can excuse it by saying, that's how it was back then. it was gratuitous. and i say this as someone who isn't black and who is a fan of quentin.

also, will supposedly has i, robot 2 and hancock 2 coming up as well. also winter's tale with a great cast. he may have his hands full so i guess we can forget about him for now.

Pfft that's ridiculous. I don't see Jamie Foxx, Kerry Washington or Sam Jackson complaining. Spike Lee's an idiot for saying what he says about QT's movies , especially for Django. And Sam Jackson isn't afraid to tell him that either.

It's a movie. It's a word. It was used just as much as that, maybe even more back in those days, and whether it's a fantasy film or a documentary or a realistic film to the core, it's just the way it is. People need to get over themselves.

But instead of continuing that discussion on here, let's just agree to disagree.

Back to Will Smith. I think the chances are extremely low of him joining this. Im not even sure Green Lanterns going to be a part of it guys.
