I don't think Dwayne is the best choice for the character, but I do think he could do well in the role and would definitely bring in money.
That's what im sayin.I don't think Dwayne is the best choice for the character, but I do think he could do well in the role and would definitely bring in money.
Another good post. This is it exactly. It's not going to matter to people. The people know Dwayne, they know he's black or at least has it in him. They know he's solid as an action hero these days and a solid actor. I never hear people say he's a fantastic actor on film but I rarely hear that he's a bad actor. Maybe several years ago I would hear it once in a while but not now. EVERYONE knows The Rock.I still don't get it. On another thread people were debating upon whether GL was a famous enough character for the general audience. Inspite of me trying to persuade opinion the other way, the consensus was that he wasn't.
So, let me begin again... if GL isn't exactly like he is supposed to be, not many would mind.
What do the GA know about John Stewart? He is black.
Can Rock pass as a black guy? Yes he can!
Is Rock a black guy? No, he's mixed!
I don't hear the uproar over an Indian guy playing an obviously Asian character in IM3.
I don't hear the uproar over a black dude playing a white character in MCU!
If the Rock does get it- it makes complete business sense, though he'd still not be my first pick-he'll still be playing a black guy. I don't see any reason for commotion!

There is no commotion. No one is debating on whether or not the Rock would be bankable as John Stewart in JL. That is a given, especially regarding his current popularity.
I like the guy, but I don't think he looks like John Stewart aside from being bald, having a beard, and being muscular. It really is that simple. Comes down to personal taste.
I say why cast him as John Stewart when there are other black actors out there who actually resemble the Stewart from the comics? Yes he would probably be a big pull for audiences, but in my mind, he does not fit John Stewart because I can't buy him as being a 100% black man.
I would believe the Rock was a hispanic man before believing him to be fully black.
I see beauty.Just look past the mole and into her eyes

I respect ur opinion Cosmic, and I agree with a good amount of it. But besides his skin tone not bothering me, I think it would be fine for Rock to play him as long as theyre not planning a solo franchise. If WB is like "Nope there's no chance in hell we're doing another GL movie, at least not in this generation, we'll keep him exclusive to JL movies." Then I think it works.
They may want to get away from Hal by going to John & since he's black or of some mixed race, that's a win for them.
I see them considering using some of these characters (like GL, WW, Flash) as characters who don't have some emotional arc and are there to kick some ass, have a good back and forth with the other members. Rock could be that guy.
"Let's make him serious, focused, black, in shape, bald head, goatee, no big monologues, he's one of the team players and he's there to kick some ass and add something different to what Reynolds gave em'...OH **** why not Dwayne? He fits, and he's draws an audience."
That's a convo that might take place. It's not far-fetched to me.
If they want to build GL as a franchise after or they want to give more for Stewart to chew on in the movie, more for WW besides kicking some ass, then Rock is not the way to go. Elba is, or some other actor.
