I don't think Dwayne is the best choice for the character, but I do think he could do well in the role and would definitely bring in money.

The rock for Wonder Woman? He's got the build and acting chops. I think he's like 6'3" or so. Sorry meant Dwayne Johnson.

I still don't get it. On another thread people were debating upon whether GL was a famous enough character for the general audience. Inspite of me trying to persuade opinion the other way, the consensus was that he wasn't.

So, let me begin again... if GL isn't exactly like he is supposed to be, not many would mind.

What do the GA know about John Stewart? He is black.

Can Rock pass as a black guy? Yes he can!
Is Rock a black guy? No, he's mixed!

I don't hear the uproar over an Indian guy playing an obviously Asian character in IM3.
I don't hear the uproar over a black dude playing a white character in MCU!

If the Rock does get it- it makes complete business sense, though he'd still not be my first pick-he'll still be playing a black guy. I don't see any reason for commotion!

He's half Indian, and also Jewish I believe. Kingsley is basically a white guy. Plus they're trying to make him like marlon Brandos character from apoc now. Crazy disillusioned warlord, or like the American Taliban guy. Also India is part of asia. Saying things like an Indian can't play an Asian is ridiculous, because they are Asian. You can say Chinese , its not offensive

That's what im sayin.

Another good post. This is it exactly. It's not going to matter to people. The people know Dwayne, they know he's black or at least has it in him. They know he's solid as an action hero these days and a solid actor. I never hear people say he's a fantastic actor on film but I rarely hear that he's a bad actor. Maybe several years ago I would hear it once in a while but not now. EVERYONE knows The Rock.

The GA will eat it up. Fanboys will be split, some pissed, some intrigued. But the GA will think it's different and cool. He makes people tune in to WrestleMania and Raw each week when wrestling has become stale to the people. He gets people in the seats to see stuff like GI Joe or Fast & The Furious when people would shrug them off these days as being repetitive & childish.

The racial aspect of it all is ridiculous. The GA don't give a damn. And the studio wont care, as long as he has black in him and he's darker than the rest, it's a bonus in their eyes.

There is no uproar, I just don't think actors that I like need to play every character. I know some on here do but that's not me.

It's why I don't suggest Lawrence for everything. I'm a huge fan and I think she is a fine actress and moviestar but I don't want her as Wonder Woman. She already has her own franchise and an Oscar at 22 lets stop being unimaginative and give some other actress a shot at her own franchise.

Thing about Johnson as Stewart is that he'd be absolutely huge to Cavills Superman and, as far as I'm concerned, no terran GL is supposed to be more muscular than the Man of Steel. Sure, Elba would be bigger also but it would be less noticeable. I get that Supes doesnt derive his powers from the size of his muscles but still..........

I'm still holding out for a Rock Black Adam or [better yet] a Rock Lobo, if that movie ever sees the light of day.

What I am saying is Rock isn't half as bad a suggestion as the ones we had this morning (or yesterday, if you are further west of Prime Meridian) for WW! What was THAT about?

Look, changing race is FINE until it becomes white-washing. Then it isn't okay.

Remember people - this is fictional. They aren't real. Making them white to a minority won't effect their character that much

The nerd community rarely complains about whitewashing. They come out in full force when a minor character in say, Thor, is played by a black man though...

If Thor himself was played by a half black guy.....then there'd be a massive uproar

Haha, The Rock as Thor, with epic long hair.

Or the Rock as Captain America, that'd be funny.

(somehow this still doesn't seem as out of place as The Rock in the nolanverse though)

There is no commotion. No one is debating on whether or not the Rock would be bankable as John Stewart in JL. That is a given, especially regarding his current popularity.

I like the guy, but I don't think he looks like John Stewart aside from being bald, having a beard, and being muscular. It really is that simple. Comes down to personal taste.

I say why cast him as John Stewart when there are other black actors out there who actually resemble the Stewart from the comics? Yes he would probably be a big pull for audiences, but in my mind, he does not fit John Stewart because I can't buy him as being a 100% black man.

I would believe the Rock was a hispanic man before believing him to be fully black.

The Rock is samoan and black mixed, so yes, while not entirely black, he can "pass" as a black guy - barely. I would watch him as John Stewart, although having a huge hulking guy play him isn't my ideal pick.

 Right on to everything you said.

I'm not saying I'd sit out the movie if he were chosen. But I don't want to settle for an actor who barely passes as a black guy when it comes to Stewart.

The race thing doesn't bother me. It's just the fact that The Rock and the nolanverse are like polar opposites.

That being said, if this wasn't the nolanverse, a buddy-cop GLCorps movie with The Rock as Stewart, and Channing Tatum, Sean William Scott, Marky Mark, or someone brotacular as Guy Gardner, would be highly entertaining I imagine.

A spiritual sequel to Michael Bay's "Pain and Gain"? (can someone manip GL costumes on these guys?)

Also, The Rock has expressed interest in playing John Stewart before

I respect ur opinion Cosmic, and I agree with a good amount of it. But besides his skin tone not bothering me, I think it would be fine for Rock to play him as long as theyre not planning a solo franchise. If WB is like "Nope there's no chance in hell we're doing another GL movie, at least not in this generation, we'll keep him exclusive to JL movies." Then I think it works.

They may want to get away from Hal by going to John & since he's black or of some mixed race, that's a win for them.

I see them considering using some of these characters (like GL, WW, Flash) as characters who don't have some emotional arc and are there to kick some ass, have a good back and forth with the other members. Rock could be that guy.

"Let's make him serious, focused, black, in shape, bald head, goatee, no big monologues, he's one of the team players and he's there to kick some ass and add something different to what Reynolds gave em'...OH **** why not Dwayne? He fits, and he's draws an audience."

That's a convo that might take place. It's not far-fetched to me.

If they want to build GL as a franchise after or they want to give more for Stewart to chew on in the movie, more for WW besides kicking some ass, then Rock is not the way to go. Elba is, or some other actor.

I'm just one black chick so I can't really speak for all black people but I feel like alot black people have embraced Johnson.

Very valid points here.

If 42 is critically well-received, I'll bet Wb will look at Chadwick Boseman for GL.

definitely interested in 42 and boseman. i think project had brought him up for john before.

Idris Elba I think would make a good John Stewart or J'onn J'onzz, but he's connected to way to many franchisees right now (THOR, Ghost Rider, Pacific Rim etc.)

I'd still love to see Shemar Moore as John Stewart and Doug Jones as Martian Manhunter.
