The "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) thread - Part 10

I guess people are just super easy to please. I watched the teaser twice and it wasn't OMG amazing to me. Then again people were excited after watching that over long show nothing DOFP teaser as well so maybe I'm just out of the loop or something?

We need a poll!

Notice how there wasn't even a single mention of Doom? Because they know everyone is going to hate their version.

Seriously, that trailer looks nothing like the Fantastic Four, they could have totally named it anything and would have ended up with the same film. They totally ignored anything remotely looking like the source material. A reimagining they are calling it. I call it an entire abandonment of the source material and making it FFINO to keep the rights. And where the F&#k was Dr. Doom, probably the single greatest Marvel Villain ever? If he was in there I sure as hell didn't see him. What a waste.

On another note, I know things are not looking good with a trailer launching for FFINO, but does anyone still hold out hope that Marvel can cut a deal with Fox, since Fox is evidently wanting the Television rights to the X-Men. I hope so, because I seriously think that this movie coming out might kill me.

Nope......Any hope of a deal is dead. This film is here. They apparently talked and didn't see eye to eye. I'm just gonna move on and focus on the other characters that will shine in the MCU. To those looking forward to this version, I wish you all the best.

I'm not looking forward to it but if the movie turns out to be good then I hope even the most staunch haters (I'm including myself as I've found everything up until this point to be utter ****) will recognize that.

This day and age, the 2005 trailer would have caused all kinds of uproar, but still, it's miles better that the new one (from the 0:38 mark on, it's kind of awesome, other than the cheap looking Doom)

That trailer is still terrible and I'm finally starting to feel films from the 2000's are dated.(I get the feeling every time I rewatch X-Men)

It's no surprise. The Fox loyalists around here would claim to love literally ANYTHING they might have shown. It's about studio loyalty for them because they like the X-Men movies, not because they're FF fans. They don't care one whit about the FF.

I went to other sites this morning and people are excited for this thing after the teaser. I'm sorry, I'm still not. There is nothing about this that says F4. I've said from the jump that I always thought that it would be a good film but new it wouldn't be a good F4 film and I stand by it. I won't be seeing it in theaters on principle alone. I can't believe some people are so easily swayed by a teaser.

Good marketing people can work wonders.

I've been completely pessimistic about this production but I found the teaser to be quite good. Now it's entirely possible that Fox just hired the greatest PR team imaginable and are doing damage control in the highest gear but some of the visuals I really liked.

What was good about it? They have less than ten seconds of familiar imagery to fake being what the FF fans want, but we know from interviews and such this is hardly the case. Then we get shots of people, a sci fi lab and a generic narration that could be laid over any sequence of footage.

We were shown that they did the bare minimum to call this film Fantastic Four of this

The issue isn't whether it's a good film or not - it's whether it represents what the comics are all about which is all fans of the comics really care about. This is Trank basically doing whatever the hell he feels like because Fox didn't know what to do with it themselves. The mere existence of this film means we will never see a good Fantastic Four film that is faithful to the source. No the Tim Story films do not count.

Trank could have simply made an original sci-fi horror film and no one would complain. Instead they are retrofitting the characters to fit their goals of shoe-horning them into their X-Men universe to try and mimic Marvel's shared universe concept and the IP is getting mangled beyond recognition as a result. All these people saying "I never liked the Fantastic Four but this looks cool" - God forbid this is actually a success. I dread the day Marvel resurrects the Fantastic Four in comics as an unrelated group of *****ey angsty tweens with disabilities in containment suits.

If Sue is the most powerful team member, does some cool stuff with her powers and feels like Sue.... Then I will probably watch this (shallow I know, but she is my favourite superhero). It comprimises my morals, but I need a great Sue.

I know how you feel....:csad:

It's no suprise. The MCU loyalists around here would claim to hate literally ANYTHING they might have shown

In all seriousness, i understand why FF fans would not like the teaser and i really hope the further trailers will showcase something that everyone can enjoy and truly portrays the Four as they should. I personally liked the trailer because it reminded me of Interstellar and other Nolan movies, but that in no way makes it a good FF trailer.

Well, at least we can finish off these wild rumors posted here:
-The movie doesn't exist
-The movie was made with cheapest possible budget
-Johnny wouldn't "flame on"
-Ben would never turn into the Thing

Agreed. I'm honestly a little surprised that it's gathering a somewhat strong reaction amongst a few, it looks extremely generic and uninspired. Not to mention cheap, the effects are clearly being hidden by the editing because they don't look good.

It's the people who normally don't like superhero movies and will like it for all the wrong reasons, further adding fuel to the fire that "comic book movies should be more like this" when they are just uninformed.

That's exactly what it is. I don't think quality wise this will be a disaster, but I don't think this is going to gel with audiences. But I don't doubt this won't be directed well. Trank can set a tone and deliver on what he says. I don't say that often. But a Fantastic Four film this isn't.

All these people saying "I never liked the Fantastic Four but this looks cool" .
this here is especially worrysome. this abomination of a trailer generates a lot of positive buzz with people who give a f*** about the First Family

The odd part is that these rumors were debunked but people hate it on principle because it isn't Marvel Studios. Human Torch does turn into a giant fireball. The rumored low budget rights grab was debunked. The tone being so grounded that there would be nothing but mundane visuals was debunked. Josh Trank being fired was debunked.

The reason why people hate this so much is because it's made by Fox. It isn't the quality of the film, it's what it represents.

And I remember posting here before that Marvel's reboot once the rights revert should take after Interstellar in terms of visuals. People were all, "it's a shame that would never happen with this film" now people hate it because it resembled Interstellar.

There is nothing wrong with hating Fox. I will continue to hate Fox until they give me a reason not to.

i'm guessing there's not a lot of people who do because - sales.

So how much of this movie is origin?

In Iron Man we get him in the modern armor about what?--40 minutes in.
In Spider-Man he was in costume halfway thru.
In Cap, despite the whole project rebirth, he is the Cap we know before the halfway mark.
In Thor he is already Thor at the beginning.
Widow is Widow when we first meet her
Ditto for Hawkeye
They skipped the Hulk origin in the MCU version
Fury is Fury
Howling Commandos just get picked by Cap as soon as he rescues them

This movie seriously looks like it will be ALL ORIGIN.

At what point will they be costumed heroes?
Will they be costumed heroes?
Will they fight anybody but Doom?
Will there be any other super-villains?
Will they be revealed to the world as a super team?
How much of the movie is them 'coping with their powers'?

As a fan, I don't want a reboot that is all origin--I want the original origin as a action set-piece, that doesn't take most of the movie.
I don't want an altered origin and an entire movie where they aren't yet heroes---especially if it's a reboot.

as I've said before--this may be a good movie, but no way is it going to be a good FF movie.
Certainly not if we have to wait for the sequel in 2017--for them to be the heroes they are in the comic.

Visually looks okay--but this doesn't look like it has the scope to be what most classic fans wanted.

add in the un-needed changes in ages and Doom once again NOT having his classic origin
and there is still no incentive whatsoever for me to see this movie.

It's Ultimate FF.

I'd love to know for an actual fact how many folks prefer the Ultimate FF over the classic version.

So bypass the longtime fans and hope that casual moviegoers will prefer the updated version?

Good luck.

But we know why this version was made, when and how, it was.

It's strange that they were allowed to use the fanfare. Maybe Marvel really had no say in this matter.
