The "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) thread - Part 7

The way they're half-assing this project and you expect them to spend money on an actual screenwriter? They probably picked some message board poster and promised him a cameo. Why, he could even be...

... one of us.

Hrm.

*looks around*

:funny:

Don't look at me. I can assure you that if I had anything to do with it, 'Doom' would never be used in the same sentence with 'blogger'.

This is what they'll be wearing on their containment suits instead of the circular 4 logo.

I don't think anyone here, while tossing the worst possible ideas, came close to blogger Doom.

BTW, as a programmer, I think I'm gonna be offended by the whole "anti social angry nerd programmer" stuff

At this point I would welcome a 3rd part to the Story FF movies over this.

After watching Guardians of the Galaxy a second time, I'm looking forward to seeing the rights for the :ff: reverting back to Marvel, after the great job Marvel did with the group I look forward to seeing how they display the first franchise released under the MARVEL imprint on the big screen.

I hope you won't feel offended.
As someone who majored civil engineering in college, the idea that the villain from the first 3 movies of SAW being a Civil Engineer before building his elaborate traps did not feel offending.

Me too.
I enjoyed those two movies.

I read the reported synopsis that's been debunked...

Thing is, I think general audiences would actually buy into that type of story while it's obviously an affront to the comic and the fans thereof. The danger there is that the movie would be somewhat profitable and we would get a repeat of the last two movies.

More than likely this film will turn a profit and a sequel will be made that will be less successful and Fox will either let the rights revert or try yet again later on...

It's not that he is a villain, it's the (possible) nerdy angle. I fear some "mom's basement" stuff

Anyway, it takes a lot more than that for me to take offense, It's just for this movie, I'll make an effort and feel outraged :D

One thing that I feel is lacking from the synopsis is the theme of family. I'm sure it might be in the actual film but even from the read it just sounds like they're strangers/acquaintances who got into a ****ed up situation instead.

That's the main thing I was concerned about honestly after they cast Michael b Jordan as the Human Torch. I wanted to see how they were going to handle the family dynamic between Sue and Johnny. Not sure how I like the idea of adoption. I think step-siblings would've been better.

The synopsis is 100% not true. Reed and Ben are not Quick-Stop employees and their powers work exactly like the comics. Anyone who says otherwise has no idea what they're talking about. You guys have nothing to worry about on that front.

It is VERY likely Josh Trank's THE FANTASTIC FOUR will be a good movie... Imagine a more Amblin take on the material.

I'm imagining a more Chronicle take on the material.

Not sure if you are serious or..................

I'm imagining a more Chronicle take on the material.

It's only a CHRONICLE-like take in that it involves college-age characters getting superpowers. Otherwise, the story's not told like CHRONICLE at all.

Maybe I'm a bit slow, but what do you mean by a more "Amblin" take on the FF, Mercuryx? You mean the short film or Spielberg's company?

I doubt you mean amblin as in a 'slow pace'. lol

I mean, it feels more like the movies Steven Spielberg did in the 80s. It approaches the material from the perspective of what it would be like for normal-seeming people to get these powers. Reed is still a genius. Johnny is still cocky. Etc. But they don't come off as cartoons. They come off as REAL people.

I admire your optimism, truly. We're it not for one thing, Fox, I would probably agree with you.

Josh Trank said Miles Teller being involved with this was 100% not true. After Fox President Emma Watts confirmed found footage Miles Teller tried to imply that it isn't later. The only things we've seen on this film in the way of pictures are aggressively hunted down and removed. Fox and Co have been more than willing to lie, deceive and hide information on thisfilm, there's a significant chance the plot is true.

Also, have you actually seen anything on this embarrassment? We have quite literally everything to worry about, from the one trick pony director to the awful, awful (mis)casting to the terrible characterization of one of fictions greatest villains. This is guaranteed to be a failure of an F4 movie.

They come off as REAL people.

Then they should have made a movie about real people without slapping the FF name on it and giving a big middle finger to FF fans in the process. Nobody wants a grounded, realistic FF movie. They want a superhero film respectful of 50+ years of source material.

There are studios who can deliver that these days, but Fox isn't one of them.

Ah ok. Whilst I don't personally see that in this project so far (especially in light of the Doom revelation), I do think that is the ideal mindset for adaptations. That the characters feel fleshed out and real as opposed to a caricature. Even if the situation is fantastical the people and the drama should feel believable.

That doesn't mean you should skimp on the fantastic though. From what has leaked it seems that they've really shot themselves in the foot when it comes to that and if the rumoured budget turns out to be true then it doesn't look like it will get much better. Add in the Chronicle-esque take we keep hearing about it doesn't really inspire confidence.

Like I've said previously FF should be a flight of fancy that's more akin to something like Dr. Who (not in drama, but in terms of the scope of adventure) and less like Chronicle.

They're lying in the press like everyone does, including JJ Abrams (Khan) and Zack Snyder (Zod). They want to PROTECT the audience from being spoiled. It's literally that simple.

Josh Trank originally denied Miles Teller being cast for a very straightforward reason. MT met with the studio and was originally PASSED ON. Things change. Josh Trank isn't going to contact the press and say, "Hey, I know a few months ago I told you Miles Teller wasn't cast. Now he is. My bad." That's what Variety is for.

Emma Watts NEVER said THE FANTASTIC FOUR was going to be found footage. She said Josh Trank was going to apply the same sensibilities he used on CHRONICLE to tell the story. That's exactly what he's doing... presenting 4 superheroes in a new and different way.

And yes, I have seen lots on the internet about this "embarrassment." 99% of it isn't true.

God I love you're right, mercureyx. I assume you are involved in the production in some capacity. Do you know why they are so quiet about it?
