The "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) thread - Part 9

All this is your opinion. And with most comicbook movies, you have to check your brain at the door. So let's not pretend this is exclusive to X-Men. I love all the Marvel movies; but you still have to leave your brain at the door.

And like it or not, you're in the minority when it comes to not liking Days of Future Past. Most consider it a good movie and I've seen it listed in a few sites top 10 movies of 2014. That doesn't happen if many consider it a mediocre movie.

However, we still can't compare the Fan4 reboot to DOFP. DOFP had a lot going for it. The Fan4 doesn't have anything at the moment.

But that’s my point. Yes all of these films have this and DOFP is as egregious and silly as any other film but somehow it is elevated as this great dramatic achievement. I’m not going to be “that guy” to rip it apart. I enjoyed it for what it is but it does not fix everything wrong with the Fox-Men and it does not to me by any means symbolize some new age for Fox. The general reception is meaningless IMO since to me DOFP is nothing more than a case of the Emperor’s New Clothes. However, it's not my MO to crap on what other people enjoy. I only mention it because it is frequently offered as some kind of “proof” of quality to silence those who have severe reservations about this FF reboot.

I personally loved DOFP, but it's still a completely unfounded analogy to compare it with this film.

From the very beginning, DOFP had a lot more going for it than anything we've seen from this production. There's no point in the former's production which has mirrored the latter's, not even in terms of a lack of information.

If that doesnt convince you, simply compare what we know of this film now with what we knew of DOFP 7 months prior to release, also taking in account this was delayed twice while DoFP was pushed to an earlier date at one point.

There's no valid comparisons here. They all fall apart.

:lmao: Rotten Tomatoes lumped all of the various Fantastic Four tidbits from last year (D00M, Mara saying it's not really based on the comics, etc.) and named it one of the worst news stories from last year.

JUNE: FACE FRONT, TRUE BELIEVERS? A YEAR OF BAD NEWS FOR THE FANTASTIC FOUR ('NUFF SAID)

As noted in the Ant-Man story, there wasn't exactly just one single horrible story about this August's reboot of The Fantastic Four (via 20th Century Fox). It was more like a whirlwind of little cuts. In February, there was the casting of the four leads, two of whom had (at that point) just costarred in the critically panned comedy That Awkward Moment (Miles Teller as Mister Fantastic, and Michael B. Jordan as Human Torch), along with Jamie Bell as The Thing and Kate Mara as Invisible Woman. The online reactions to Michael B. Jordan were particularly nasty, and he reacted to it. This was followed by the casting of Toby Kebbell (Koba from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) as Doctor Doom, which was followed later in the year by the news that the reboot "Doom" is an "anti-social programmer" who calls himself Doom on blogs. There was also the story about The Fantastic Four utilizing "found footage elements" (director Josh Trank made his mark with the superpowers found footage movie Chronicle). This was also the year Kate Mara mentioned that the movie's not based on comic books, Michael B. Jordan said they're just kids who had an accident, and we got our very unofficial first glimpse of The Thing in who sort of looks like a clinically depressed rock monster from The NeverEnding Story. Finally, this was also the year when Marvel Comics announced the cancellation of the Fantastic Four comic, which some perceived as a reaction to the way that 20th Century Fox has handled the movie rights. (It's worth noting that this will not be the first time that Marvel has stopped publishing a Fantastic Four comic.) 20th Century Fox has scheduled The Fantastic Four for August 7, 2015.

Yeah, its pretty much what we've all been talking about. At least RT isn't blind to Fox's crappy ways but the average Fox supporter is going to bring up that Antman is on that list to due to the whole director leaving debacle which in my opinion isn't even half as bad as what's going on with this F4 reboot. I really don't care about Edgar Wright.

So Ant-man is still a day 1 ticket for me and the fam along with possibly seeing it again the weekend that F4 reboot comes out.

OT: Edgar Wright just didnt seem like a right fit. I don't mean in terms of skill because he's a great director. Just that he didnt seem down with the whole shared universe, easter eggs, cameos, etc. type thing. At least from what I heard

That gif is prematurely assuming it's a trainwreck. There could be a large net beneath the surface of the water to catch it, and the collapsing bridge could be deliberate to ensure that the train is grounded. :o

Actually, the train would have had to be on the tracks to start. This film was never on the rails. Heck, they didn't have enough budget for the coal.

Well if F4 is grounded and gritty, that train wreck gif maybe to scifi for it.

That's the Trank version of Snowpiercer.

Or maybe it's Trank's reimagining of Thomas the Tank Engine. :wow:

And his buddy the train didn't even have to audition for the part.

In fact, he didn't even use a train for it, and now people are defending that choice saying that a car would be the best vehicle for the part when we all know there was no audition.

McAdams would be pretty good too. She was considered for the Tim Story FF films as well as The Dark Knight and Pepper in Iron Man but she turned the last 2 down.
I wonder if she doesn't really want to do a superhero role similar to Ryan Gosling.

She was on hiatus from films and was only doing stage work, due to a problem with her previous manager and some issues she had with a nude photoshoot she was lied-to about.

Anyway, I know she won't be Sue, or any actress that fits any of our hopes. Because FOX will damn these characters to Limbo :(

Well that bummed me out:csad:

"clinically depressed rock monster from The Neverending Story" though...

Saying what everyone already thinks. That doesn't justify not doing any promo. The cast's twitter accounts are saying nothing about the film and Kinberg always changes the topic to X-Men Apocalypse.

And you can't compare this to Ninja Turtles. Ninja Turtles had set pics and Megan Fox was doing interviews. There literally hasn't been a blockbuster with this little publicity in years.

Blockbuster being the operative word. This movie is not one of those. It's a home video, and you don't usually see publicity for those.

Not if you're Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian!

And on a completely different topic, this vlogger has it all right. Fox delayed to production to have extra time to get it right and then Trank ruined everything.

I used to have high hopes for this film. I wanted it to succeed. I wanted to believe that Trank could turn out a decent film. Now I have absolutely no sympathy for him based on what I've learned and Disney would be smart to kick him off Star Wars unless he becomes the next Michael Bay when it comes to destroying mega-franchises.
