The "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) thread - Part 9

Ant-Man won't flop if it's anything from just decent to above. It may be the lowest grossing MCU film since the solo Phase 1 films, but it'll be solid. For the record, I think it'll outperform Thor and TFA by a decent amount.

I think it'll pull in a minimum of $500 million, if only for the Avengers ties (the banner that gave us the first official glimpse of Yellowjacket also had an Avengers Initiative logo. It'll tie-in one way or another). A good Ant-Man tease in AoU or a Civil War tease at the end of Ant-Man would draw some butts to the seats, too, and one or the other (both?) will happen.

Agreed. At this point in time I'm comfortable with the 500-600 m range.

The Sony leaks intimated that Marvel made $300 million off of Spider-man merch last year alone.

Nah, that was info from several years ago (slightly before the first ASM came out).

We do, however, have global numbers on Spidey merch in 2013 (some of which would have been ASM related). Spidey merchandise pulled in 1.3 billion dollars in 2013 alone. It was pretty big news. Spidey merch makes more than Batman, Superman, and Avengers combined.

I like the Ant man teaser, but the FF teaser could be easily better than it and yet still get more hate.

I've been following the "production" of this movie for several years now. From the moment they announced it the same day that Disney bought Marvel to now and everything in between. It has been a spiteful, obvious money grab and there really is no denying it. This movie has no ideas or passion behind it. It is the exact opposite of a reason you should make a movie.

I was lucky to find this thread and joined the Hype because of it. I've been a viewer of Coming Soon/SHH since it's inception but never cared to join a forum. After growing tired of seeing some hate and spamming from the folks that were apparently on my "side" of the argument on IMDB, I finally found this thread. There are actual logical people here, save a few.

And as much as I want/need Reed interacting with the characters that are in the MCU or hate hate HATE the idea of possibly the greatest fictional villain ever being turned into a hobo elf blogger or that every single actor is objectively miscast, I still love the Fantastic Four and would obviously give credit where it's due if a good trailer was presented.

ANT-MAN was a decent teaser, key word teaser. Those that are underwhelmed or give the typical Internet well-though out and articulate "meh" repsonse are simply joining the trending minority bandwagon of besmirching the MCU because it's good and popular. Anyone who has ever actually read comics for a while can't deny that the MCU is greatness. And I hope the DCCU follows suit.

The X-Men movies are not good adaptations like Marvel Studios (and hopefully the DCCU) but they are still decent movies for the most part. I can live with that. TASM movies are failures and this FFINO is obviously an even worse offender with respect to content and faith, only this time coupled with behind the scenes reasons of greed and hate and laziness. Yet despite all that, I will admit it if the trailer is good. It's that simple. But knowing what we know about FFINO, it just can't be possible.

My mistake. That's amazing though and even more evidence.

********. If the trailer is good then the trailer is good. If it's bad then it's bad.

However, if it magically is good, it won't then somehow erase all the crap we've been given so far in the production of this movie.

Ah yes, rationalizing away opinions that differ from your own by simplistically framing those who hold said opinions as "haters." Good luck with that.

As someone who honestly likes the MCU and enjoys Marvel's movies... I was underwhelmed. It was a crap teaser.

It looked like just another superhero movie. I was hoping for some yuks.

It was a teaser. I can deal with an underwhelming teaser.
Even so I'm willing to bet everything I own that Ant-man will be a better movie than FFINO, all signs point to that. The Ant-man teaser could have been a full minute of a monkey pooping in his own hand and I'd still feel pretty strongly about that claim.
But it just shows how infantile the proponents of this movie have been, saying that the FF trailer will be better, when we haven't seen a damn thing for this movie.

Wait, just to be clear, no one is really doing that right...? I'd certainly hope not.

I never once used the term "hater". I have run into the trend I mentioned pretty frequently though and they're never able to articulate their point of view. Thanks for the condescension though.

EDIT: My apologies for unfairly lumping you in with that sort for being underwhelmed. Probably poor sentence structure on my part.

I love the MCU films (as my sig indicates), but the Ant-Man teaser was underwhelming. What does that mean other then the teaser was underwhelming? In the overall context of how I judge a film, it means absolutely nothing. I've been influenced too heavily by good and disappointing trailers in the past. I've learned my lesson.

That Antman trailer really did nothing to make me want to see the movie but lucky for them I already want to see it out of curiosity. Mostly for how it will connect to the rest of the MCU story arcs.

Exactly....Fox4 fans of so desperate for a win that it sad.

Ant-man is still a day one ticket purchase for me and kids regardless.

Man, some of you guys calling the teaser underwhelming would have HATED The Dark Knight teaser.

The Fantastic Four teaser will release FEB 13 with Kingsman.

Source? There's been a ton of speculation today, first it was the Superbowl, then no Superbowl. Until I see something solid, I'm not believing a word of it.

Man, if that's true, I wish it would have premiered the day before the Batman/Superman trailer, which might be premiering with Jupiter Ascending on February 6th.

Would have not only stolen FFINO's thunder, but S/B'd still be higher up on the marketing timeline even though S/B comes out next year.

Oh well.

i saw a screenshot of trailer to be attached to movies in FEB, i forgot the website to check that but it said FFINO feb 13 attached the kingsman

You need to provide a little more than that lol.

Edit - It looks like CBR may have had a page up seven hours ago but now it's gone.

I found a tweet but I have no idea how trustworthy it is (I have little faith in a trailer being shown anyway).

Here is the original source that was referenced by CBM:

http://projectionlist.com/#/site/trailers

Their disclaimer at the top is: "ONLY AN INDICATION AS TO WHEN CERTAIN TRAILERS WILL/MIGHT BE RELEASED. NOT AN OFFICIAL/COMPLETE SCHEDULE."

Kingsman would be the logical choice, so that's as likely as anything, but I don't think we have anything near official.

If you look through the list, you'll see they're pairing up a bunch of movies that make sense (including the second FF trailer with Avengers). I suspect the list is mostly educated guesses based on timing, history and the types of films.
