JW was a good movie so I disagree it felt more like a sequel then 2 and 3 and it was just over all a good movie.

I was a bit underwhelmed with JW and I'm hoping this follow up is a bit better. I like the addition of Jeff Goldblum, so here's hoping. He was great in Thor Ragnarok and I wish they'd shoehorned a bit more of him into it.

The sequel to Jurassic World will probably drop domestically by quite a bit, unless it's absolutely fantastic by some miracle.

But internationally, I don't see much reason to expect a steep drop. It could be more like Age of Ultron in that the international numbers make up for the domestic drop, at least somewhat.

That's the one questionable thing about The Last Jedi, which is the drop in both areas, and a bad result in China.

I didn't follow the reception for JW in China, but it made 228M there, so that's pretty solid.

Nope. I liked JW when it came out and I like it now. It's much better than JP3 and is more enjoyable than Lost World. It's not shocking that it did great at the box office.

Nobody is crying in their cereal about any of the BO numbers, but the studios will ALWAYS re-evaluate.

Why would they "re-evaluate"? Lucasfilm/Disney knows TFA was a special "planets all aligning perfectly" situation the same way we do.

1.2/1.3 billion is still basically "nothin' to see here". So it's the 12th/13th biggest movie ever instead of the second. They might have expected this to be 5th or 6th biggest ever.

It's a drop, it's probably a disappointment. They're not going to start mandating "course corrections" or whatever upon Kennedy and Abrams for IX though.

Jurassic Park and World were both very good movies, both far better than the last jedi.

That said the trailer for the fallen kingdom and the story they are going for look awful.

Jurassic Park is a very good movie. Jurassic World is a mean spirited film which plays out more like a parody of Crichton's work opposed to honouring it. It's full of unlikable, stupid characters doing stupid things and there isn't an ounce of wonder or joy in the film. The antithesis of the original.

I'm not thrilled about Abrams returning for IX but he's a gigantic step up from the mess Colin Trevorrrow would have made.

My favourite part is Henry Wu morphing into a malevolent, sneering, Bond supervillain. The movie is a cartoon. A bad one.

Whilst it had stupid elements, like essentially being best pals with some raptors, it was no more stupid than leia flying like superman for example.

It had a cool big old dinosaur killing other dinosaur and chasing humans. that is all you can ask for.

That said this volcano thing theyve got going on in the next one looks appalling.

The sequel looks pretty boring. I actually thought the idea of Dinosaurs being used for the military was a fresh idea. But the trailer looks like the same exact thing as JW

I'll have to check it out then on your recommendation.

They're not going to start mandating "course corrections" or whatever upon Kennedy and Abrams for IX though.

One would expect a more traditional heroic story, but then one could argue that the 3rd installment would have been that type of story anyway.

I think the main challenges will be the characters and trying to tell a story that doesn't just feel like it is undoing all of Johnson's ideas in this movie, and returning to the usual Star Wars tropes.

The surviving heroic characters, to my mind, have not been developed sufficiently, given that we have reached the concluding installment of the trilogy. They also haven't spent much time together.

So I think the place to start would be a team story that really allows Finn, Rey, Rose and Poe to go on an adventure together. Get back to the basics of character development and really give those actors something meaty to work with, which I think they really deserved to have more of in this movie.

The larger plot question of what to do with the main conflict is a trickier one. Logically, the rebels will need to defeat the First Order. But how can that be done without simply feeling like a retread?

I'm not sure. Definitely an interesting challenge for the writers.
