The Dark Knight The Man Who Laughs: The Joker Thread 2.0

George McFly. And how was Grendel like George McFly? I prefer what I have seen of Ledger to what I imagine from Glover but your comment seems pretty off-base.

George McFly, my bad. But the comment stands. He plays everyone with the same high-pitched histrionics and twitchy weirdness that he brought to McFly Sr in "Back To The Future", from Nurse Betty to Charlie's Angels to Wild at Heart to Willard to....yes, even Beowulf.

Again, you don't know that
And CC admitted that he didn't know that. But so that I don't get accused of knowing how Crispin would have played the role (:whatever:), I will say that it's probable that Crispin's performance as the Joker would have been about as surprising as John Wayne's performance in a cowboy or WW2 movie.

While I'm in no way endorsing Glover, the fact that you might know how he'd perform the role is absolutely the last thing he should be criticized of. Less we forget Bale, Caine, Freeman, and Neeson put fairly "predictable" performances as well.

Can't argue with that. Most actors are specifically chosen because you know how they will be. The general audience doesn't like change and surprise; they want what they know. You put Michael Caine in a movie because you need a snappy Brit; Neeson in one because you need an air of sophistication and the pretense of wisdom; Freeman because you need a likable old black guy with a pleasant voice. It isn't really fair to say that you are only a good actor if you can do many different types of roles. There is a certain value in specialization.

Glover is a creepy loner and we have a good idea of how he would have played the Joker and it may have been adequate. Nolan took a complete leap of faith with Ledger and it looks like it may have paid off, but it could have easily failed (and possibly still could be deemed a failure) and we would have hated him more for taking a chance on someone with no precedent role instead of choosing someone predictable.

I am home sick all day and I really wish you people would argue about something I care about... I don't even know who Crispin Glover is, but what does it even matter. Heath is Joker. Crispin is not. END.

"Waaaaahhhhh. Everything is about MEEEEEEEEEEE"

haha. i had that coming.

Just a little. I agree with you that the topic is kind of pointless since Ledger is the Joker and most likely did a fantastic job; it is just the way you said it was asking for mockery. I had a similar outburst regarding some Matt Damon argument in the Two-Face thread.

were people arguing that Damon would have been a good Two-Face?

Thats crazy talk. You mine as well argue that Tom Cruise should have been Bruce Wayne.

Well the Matt damon arguement holds water because he was nolans first pic(many sites pointed to the fact back in the day)

Nolan hasnt got a first pick to play a character in this series except for Bale but everyone seems to have worked out perfectly.

(cooper for gordan, hopkins for alfred, damon for twoface,Aragon for Ras:cwink:, etc.)

The only rumor I wasnt sure about (and didn't hear "around town" was the Penn for Joker one.)

I have a hard time seeing Damon do it, because he's such a high profile celebrity with his own movie series. I mean, I can't imagine the viral campaign with the Harvey Dent signs featuring Damon's image and actually being able to suspend disbelief for the character. People on the street would've been like, "What's Matt Damon running for again?"

Oh I agree, now especially that you mentioned the virals.

"I believe in Matt Damon":oldrazz:

However, Matt Damon is a Great great actor. very believable in everything he does.

His age, being around bales, would have worked better in my minds eye and Im sure that was what Nolan's intentions were

man Aragon as Ra's Al ghul could have been interesting...but Liam nailed the role.

I just couldn't seen Crispin Glover as anything but a similar copycat of Nicholson's Joker had he gotten the part. It would be him playing a crazy Crispn Glover and not the Joker. The difference is...heath is not playing himself at all.

Damon could of done it with no issues. I would of actually liked having him in this movie. I enjoy Damon's films.

Having his face on the Dent campaign material would of given it more much press and publicity than Eckhart, giving the virals more exposure. Everyone in the office here knows of Eckhart and always jokes around with me about him running for DA.

Again, you don't know that
yes... I said we don't know...
There is a possibility he could do a good job, just as there is a possibility that a meteor will strike me down..

There is a percentage that it might happen, though all evidence and experience thus far has proven that I will go my whole life without being hit by a meteor..

So while Cripsin could do a very good job, his resume thus far is in our favor in saying that he might do the role the same.

I agree with you completly I can't stand everone saying how Crispin Glover would have been a great joker he's not even a good actor he just looks creepy

crispin glover is not a very good actor though. and im a huge fan of his but its true. why are we even discussing him still?

I was pretty keen for a Paul Bettany Joker..

No disrespect for Heath, i love what i've seen of his..

And he's definately made it his own..

but when all the hype, manips and names were being thrown around..

Bettany was my choice above all else..

More-so because i believed we'd get something of a more classic looking Joker & a more classic style of him..

But as i said, i love this take on the character..

I think Paul Bettany could definitely be a classic looking Joker too, but I don't think he and Heath Ledger would work as the same interpretation.

nah no way..
i agree with you there..
but if it did come down to either no Joker in the third or a recast..
i'd have to go with a recast..
i know..
i'm cold..
but i wanna see what they're gonna do with him..
Heath has done what looks to be an INCREDIBLE job..
but i'd want to see that continue..
i want his story to go on..
obviously it'd have to be someone who could do a similar interpretation..

but that's just one guys opinion on the current state of things..
one guy who doesn't even have 100 posts yet..
:waa:
so we'll see if my opinion matters..
