I was pretty surprised when I read this is where the "why so serious?" comes from. It makes it much more intense and I can't think of a better placement for the tagline of the movie.

I don't think he's telling anyone this to make them feel sorry for him. I think he's doing it to be creepy.

Since I saw the new TV spots and read the spoilers I think I really have a handle on the character for the first time. He's not funny, he's absolutely sick. This just proves it. Everything about this character is perfect.

^Well, you want him to be depraved, but I hope he has a few lines where the audience actually laughs. Most of the Joker incarnations, whether animated, live action or in the comics, as sick as they were, usually said or did something that made the viewer crack up at least once.

There's no way that the "Bad Dad Origin" is true. Nolan would never tie him down to one traumatic event (Something the monkeys at DC have been smart enough to avoid. No origin means that the character is a lot more powerful). Personally I think it's all babble.
The Son of Sam said his Dad was a vampire who was sending him out to kill people. These nutters all have their little delusions.

IMO I think Myers should stop making movies full stop.

Anyways, the notion that Joker could give sob stories throughout the movie, explaining his "origins", is hilarious. Im entertained by the thought of appeasing the saps who need everything explained for them in films, including an origin of joker (something i thought was never nesessary). Once they think they have the joker figured out, he swerves and changes it!

It would be a nice play on the stereotypical maniac villain who has been wronged by the world and has plans to dominate the world etc. They have really hit it on the head with this character, he is being portrayed exactly how i wanted him to be.

i dont think hes telling the story about his dad to get sympathy. also i dont think nolan would use that as a origin. i reckon its just the joker talkin ****, messing about wid peoples heads. in the animated series and comics he always says things like that. he prefers it when his past is "multiple choice". so dont read into this revelation so much, if it is true i guarentee its just another one of jokers silly games!!

I take the "abusive father"-story as Joker's sense of humor, it's just such a standard story that he's decided to use it as his own.

I can see it going something like this; everyone is trying to figure out who this guy is, and he becomes all vulnerable "my father used to beat me...yada yada yada"

then BAM, you're dead

I honestly couldn't be happier with the Joker we got for this film. It's a fresh take on the character with new elements, but at the same time, it's SO Joker. Everything about Heath's performance seems to be iconic and I can't wait to see it all.

Haha, yeah, I remember that one. Though Luthor may get beat up, he still knows how to psychlogically **** with Joker, though. When Joker had him being tortured, he was still poking fun at his somewhat homoerotic obsession with Batman.

I would really rather just sly references to a violent past.

I don't think so. It's just another way to instill more fear into his victim before he kills them. I wouldn't develop resistance for something until you see Heath actually doing. He's far exceeded all of our expectations up to this point...

I guess. After all, a good bit of the lines we were told about from trailers and whatnot sounded lame and cheesy initially.
