I agree about Secret Window - great film - but how can you not like Capt. Jack?

I'm just not a fan of the whole pirate genre. Besides, Depp can do better. I mean, have the Academy given him the best actor award yet? Because he kind of deserved it for Blow. Surely you can see how an actor of such talent might confuse some people by dressing up like a pirate and talking like a geriatric rock star? Truthfully it's baffling.

Besides, Depp can do better.

We all always say things like that about an actor. "They can do better" but I think the main thing you have to consider is an actor's gut feeling about going into films. Some choose purposefully mindless film roles for a paycheck, and some just want to explore. In that case, I think Depp was just exploring...but don't take my word for it. I, obviously, don't know the guy. (Also, keep in mind he has kids, and I'm sure it could've been nice for them to see a movie where he isn't killing someone with sharp objects or running around Vegas high)

True. That could certainly have been a factor. Besides, just because I don't "get" those films it doesn't mean that they're worthless. Not all movies have to be grim think-pieces. If that were so I wouldn't like Jingle All The Way as much as I do. Sometimes it's cool to just muck around and get a laugh or two.

agreed. And I wasn't thinking that you thought they were worthless. I'm not even a big fan of the Pirates movies. I liked the 1st and 3rd one, but I don't think they are phenomenally great or anything.

we'd see johnny depp playing the joker, not the joker played by johnny depp. heath ledgers a big star but he was smalltime compared to Depp. Candy and Brokeback were great films and I don't feel like Heath got to the point of parodying himself (Jackson., Walken). We'd need a similar actor, not someone who is so big their persona is automatically read into their characters.


edit: btw Depp is a really credible actor imo, I like him a lot and I think Pirates was just an exploration. Has anyone ever seen Dead Man? Best film of his ever. He has mentioned that he did Pirates FOR his kids. Pretty sweet if you ask me. those are fantastic kids movies.

y i agree they should leave Joker alone after this,but if it does happen they need to find someone who can compare to heath's performance. In my opinion weaving can do that along with pulling off th look a well

ive been saying that to people myself when ledger was casted and they ranted on that johnny should have been the joker.But even so i wouldnt mind seing a depp style joker. especially now that there is no ledger, unless theres some1 who nolans got up his sleeve, and im sure there are a few.

Hugo was badass as "V". It would be interesting to see his take on the character.

The real question is....would the Joker have to be the same incarnation as Heath portrayed, or will we have a different take on him if another actor gives it a shot??

I have a question, I remember way back when that there was supposed to be some kind of montage of things The Joker hates and why he hates them, and one review mentioned a montage halfway through the movie that hints a little at his background, does anyone know about this?
