The Dark Knight The Man Who Laughs: The Joker Thread 2.0

joker dances with rachel? LOL that sounds funny. didnt joker do that with vicky vale too?

he does; itll be fine, i just wish they wouldnt... if this were connected to the batman series (schumacher/burtons)then yeah, reference it up... but not in a new franchise...

No that is fine, it is not just an ode to Burton's stuff. Joker has danced with people in comics as well. Its the Joker its how he does things.

I think people just think oh no they are copying off of Burton or something, no they are going of of source material. Dancing and messing around is part of the Joker's character, so there is nothing wrong with them adding that in. Its more ode to comics then anything.

i guess, but im more for the average moviegoer who likes a batman movie (and doesnt read comics) and is all like "wait a second..."

it actually looks like joker tries to dance with rachel but she aint having it.
and both movies are based on the same source material so there are bound to be some similarities

You know what? I agree.
I mean, the joker joking around is what he does. He jokes around and relentlessly and anarchically wreaks havoc and destruction.

SO what if he dances with Rachel? SO what if it's been done before? I mean, Baman beat up bad guys in Batman begins, but that had been done before! Lol. No one complained then!

It's just the character, as much a part of the joker's character as his sick sense of humor and permawhite skin! (oooh, I went there!)

I'm looking forward to getting to know all you guys in the future! As I said in another thread, I've been reading this for nearly two years now! So I feel like i know a lot of you already. :)

no i believe ya, im just sayin both scenes seem VERY alike and maybe possibly its some kinda homage.
It most definitely IS an homage. That along with the dancing with the damsel.

The taunting and charismatic traits are part of the Joker, but the way it's executed in both films are too alike to pair them with the source material.

General movie goers don't care/don't remember as much as you think. If they don't understand that this is based off of the comics, just like all Batman media is, just as we could say all the movies made off the bible have so many similarities, well they are suppose to.

Joker is like this, he messes around, does not take anything serious. Its his way. If you take that away just because he did it in B89 you might as well take away the fact that Joker laughs a lot and is intelligent. And devious.

There are things that make him the Joker, so of course all these media are going to have similarities. Just with different styles.

Like some one just said, Batman always beats people up, its just part of the character.

yeah
i get what yer saying... :)

The Joker dancing sounds quite in character. This is a man who cannot see the hideousness of his own crimes, he has few emotions one would ascociate with normal humans. The only thing we can understand is his sense of showmanship, the fact that he wants to be the centre of attention, he's like a bratty child, he can't allow himself to be ignored. Therefore dancing with a woman whilst threatening to slit her throat is exactly the kind of sick game I think he'd play. I think that prospect would be very appealing to a character like that.

Where is this evidence that he dances with Rachel in TDK???

If your talking about that scene where she knees him in the groin I think that is right before the scene where he is holding her face with the knife next to her cheek.

it was in the WW footage. people say there was a clip of him dancing with racheal

He could start dancing with her first, then pull out the knife, and that's when she knees him in the groin.

Very true. I just forgot that people saw it at the WW footage before Symbiosis55 brought it to my attention.

I just hope that he doesn't kill Rachel, it'd be pretty messed up if that happens.

Hi I'm new!

I have to say that i hope he actually does kill Rachel. Something drastic like that would be the catalyst to turn harvey dent, and it would creat an interesting dynamic between him/two face and bruce/batman.

Furthermore, it would definitely be in keeping with the DARK theme of the film, which the film makers continue to reitterate.

First off, welcome to the Hype! Hope you enjoy it here.

I know the movie is dark but for some reason I just like the look of Maggie & I don't want her character to die because she seems like she's going to do a much better job than Katie Holmes but if it could serve for motivation to his character, I guess it'd be okay to see.

not because i dislike the character, but rachel should die to give bats some motivation for pure unadulterated hatred of mr. J

I totally agree that batman needs to have an irrational unadulterated vitriolic hatred for Joker. How about if it was achieved this way....

Rachel Dawes, having told Bruce that they ain't neva gonna happen, mmmhmmm, meets Dent, and they fall in love and get engaged.

Bruce and Harvey don't get along, but Batman and Harvey become close, or something.
although I remember reading somewhere in the boards during the summer that gordon was cagey about allowing harvey have access to batman, or was that just in the comics?

Anyway... Joker does something HORRIFIC to dent... ANd turns Dent into twoface. (not neccessarily the scarring)

When harvey goes chicken oriental (mental) and becomes twoface, he then kills rachel. The human, nice harvey then becomes more tragic, as he loved his beautiful fiancee, but the evil twoface side of him relishes her killing at his hands.

This makes batman angry at joker. And he overcomes his grief to try and help harvey.

It's all part of Joker's plan... Maybe THAT'S joker's plan. Harvey is making gotham crime free within 18 months, what if joker's plan is to make harvey evil???

Just some thoughts, playing devil's advocate.

Wow, we're getting more and more irish Bat fans here all the time. To quote Joker, I like that :hoboj:

Yes, I'm irish, too :cwink:

Regarding Rachel, it's not like she's a character from the comic books. So, Nolan really has free reign with her character because he wont be disrespecting anything from the comic books.

Personally, I hope Joker does kill Rachel. He needs to leave his mark in Batman's life by killing someone close to him. Just like in the comics.
