The Dark Knight The Man Who Laughs: The Joker Thread 2.0

Uh, Sweeney Todd was a psychotic, spiritually broken man hellbent on revenge. Jack Sparrow was a drunken goofball. I hardly see how he was playing the same character. At all.

Of course, your opinion of Depp is clear, so perhaps you're just seeing what you want to see.

I'm sorry but - WTF.

Whats with the talk of a new Joker being the true one?
This info had better be false because that is real BS.
Is this some cheap way to have heath's joker recast (if the joker lives in dark knight) to bring fourth a TRUE joker?

Now that's a real piss on Heath's grave.
And the THOUGHT of Depp being cast?!
Depp is a very popular actor and I know this is just a thought about him being recast as the Joker - but that would take Heath's final work away being that the thought of depp replacing him since he's popular.
That just wouldn't be right and I would refuse to see the next film if it *would* be that way.

And the thing with a true Joker and Heath's just being a puppet?
Wow was whoever who thought of that watched Ninja Turtles on For Kids?
That is so close with the true shredder thing that it's not even funny.

I really hope would I read was false and that nolan isn't thinking about all of this or it would be a shame.

Let the dark knight being the last time we see a Joker (or one that's like heath's with the face paint and how he carries himself).

Please don't take what I said seriously - I was shocked when I saw this.

did i miss something? whats with all the talk of recasting, joker eats it in the end dont he?

No. The Joker does not die in The Dark Knight.

It's not info, it just some members here speculating/theorizing/suggesting a way that The Joker could be recast and brought back in a third movie. I agree with you about the idea though, it would smack of "pissing on Heath's grave" to have another Joker be "the real one". This is all assuming Nolan will do a third film, and further assuming The Joker would be in it, but if he was I'd imagine he would simply be recast with the same suspension of disbelief of Katie Holmes transforming into Maggie Gyllenhaal (needless to say, most would consider Heath vastly more of a loss).

I suppose most of his roles are the same because of Burton, but the scene in Sweeney Todd where he says "at Last my arm is complete" was pure Captain Jack.

I really cant see Depp doing a good job as the Joker, that and he doesnt fit in with the rest of the cast who are pure talent.

But what annoys me the most about Depp, even though I like him as an actor even though he is overrated and overused, is the sudden boom in interest in him because of POTC. Suddenly he is the first choice for everything.

Depp would have been a good Joker... in 1989.

P.S. Sweeney Todd was an amazingly flat character, who thought a movie about a serial killer who makes people into pies could be so bad.

ITT we state someharsh truths:

Johnny Depp has been playing the same role for all of his recent movies.

What was Captain Jack doing in Sweeney Todd? Thats some poor acting there Mr Depp.

Seriously, Everyone wants Depp in every movie.

Overrated.

Get a real Actor, not a random popular one.

Hahahaha.

uhh i feel like itd be an insult to re-cast the joker, i suppose they could do it but its the JOKER not Rachel Dawes. In order for the trilogy to maintain consistency, i think it'd be best to avoid recasting him. BIG shoes to fill. How would you feel knowing you'd have to take up that mantle from him? Eventually of course, someone will, but for the third film I feel like it might be a little awkward, but I'd like to be proven wrong.

If there's an integral role for him in BB3, then they should recast. Especially since it seems that Nolan [BLACKOUT]kept Joker alive and killed Dent as part of a possible bigger plan.[/BLACKOUT]

when the **** did this happen?

When what happened? [BLACKOUT]The Joker being alive and 2Face dying?[/BLACKOUT]

yeah if there is an integral role, i'd be down, it'd be a miracle to pull it off though imo.

yeah since when does [BLACKOUT]two face die[/BLACKOUT]? thats the dumbest thing i've ever heard

Since it's been multipy confirmed by reviewers. And please use spoiler tags, some people don't know that yet.

I did use spoiler tags, you just peeked inside. Although I should edit the post where I quote you.

Anyway, it's not the Venom fiasco, because TDK is all about Harvey's story arc, whereas Eddie Brick got minimal screen-time and character development and was randomly thrown in.

Yes But

To have his story ac and then his final transformation only lasting a short while renders him pretty much useless to the film. Why pa so much attention to him if your not gonna use him anyore after this?

He's in the movie as 2Face for at least 30 minutes. But yes, I agree with you, make no mistake, that they should use him for a potential 3rd film. I don't like this decision at all. However, I hear from everyone who's seen TDK that it works fantastically within the context of this movie and this movie alone. But yeah, I wish he'd survive for no3. Seems to me like a wasted opportunity.

What I disagree with is the Venom connection. It's nothing like it, the character gets the attention and respect he needs to be 3-dimensional and not a caricature.

Don't flame me but I'd like to see Ryan Gosling as The joker. He's very talented and an oscar nom actor. He potrays a serial killer in murder by the numbers, and a disturbed but lovable person in lars & the real girl.I think if the role would pass to someone new,i would to see another rising and upcoming actor.I already saw johny depp in chocholate factory,a character which resembled joker(purple suit, pale face, sick smile) so i'll pass.

I can hardly understand Gosling half the time. I loved him however in Lars and the Real Girl I really liked him.

Saying a recast would be pissing on anyone's grave is complete and utter ********.

Stop acting like Heath was a god. He wasn't. He was a ****ing great actor who gave an absolutely amazing performance that should be celebrated.

No more, no less.

You do his memory an injustice with all this fake outrage. Before his death a lot of people criticized what they saw.

Now, there is nothing but praise. I myself have nothing negative to say about his job, he is amazing in the film, but you make it seem less of an achievement when you talk about him like a god. He got a royal flush with the Joker, no doubt. But with this gushing over him, you make it seem like he won with a stacked deck, you put a filter on it that can make people think, "Oh, if he didn't die maybe no one would be saying this." Its great to talk about how great he is in the movie, but don't bring these other elements into it.

If he didn't die, it would be "Even though I didn't like this this and this, dammit, he did a ****ing great job." Now, its clearly "He did such an amazing job, everything was perfect." And when people see that, they will think that maybe his death had something to do with it.

And nonsense he couldn't be topped. People said the EXACT same thing about Nicholson, and I don't think anyone believes that any more. Would it be hard to find an actor who could match or even do a better job than Heath? Yes, very, and it would be done the same way Ledger surprised us all.

I say celebrate his work and enjoy the hell out of the movie just as everyone involved wanted. If there is a third film and the Joker plays a part, we'll see how it ends up, but don't cheaper Heath's performance with all this.

Pretty much agree. They honored him with a (apparently) great film and by not editing his scenes. But the Joker, and a potential plan they might've had for him in BB3, is bigger than Ledger.

IF they do a recast for The Joker then Nolan will come up with another surprise IMHO. Who believed Heath Ledger will be Mr J two years ago? Who believed that he will own the role?
Most of us wanted George McFly as The Joker.
It's the same here with Johnny Depp. If there will be a new Joker then it's someone no one of us mentioned yet.

Yep. And everyone will hate him just like they did Heath until we see what he does.

Yes, but if they DO recast the Joker, that actor is going to have a tremendous amount of pressure on him because the actor who previously portrayed him was so fantastic that fanboys like us will not accept him at first.

Woah,deja vu, right?
