Very true but aspects of it were still overdone. Giant robots, the Riddler taunting Batman through a giant TV set, The Joker escaping Arkham on a rocket Christmas tree.
We never got things that bad in Burton's films.

There were several dark aspects of his character that gleamed through every now and then, however. MOTP and ROTJ are prime examples of the "cartoony" interpretation being avoided in favor of a more ruthless Joker. Those 2 movies alone are enough for me to put Hamill over Nicholson.

seriously,hamill's joker is awesome, but he's at his best in those movies IMO. i mean, ROTJ ( unless we're talking about the *****fied edited version ) had him killing his goons, torturing robin to the point of insanity and videotaping it as if it were some family home video , and cutting the **** out of batman with a knife. that's something you'd never see in the actual series.

Yeah, ROTJ is awesome. The simply fact that it had material edited out for being "too much" speaks for itself

i liked "jokers favour" aswell, it showed his dark side in the fact that hes stalking "chuckers". he even has his goons drive past his wife and child as hes threatening them on the phone. the plot to blow up everyone at the commishoners ball was quite extreme aswell. but then he goes all *****-hole at the end!

Ladies and gentlemen...i present to you...the perfect replacement for Heath Ledger as the next joker:

Joseph Gordon-Levitt

the guy is an amazing actor and completely under appreciated/used. Go see The Lookout and you'll know what i'm talking about. He also looks a like a cross between Heath and the comic book Joker.

Not for my money. I can see his advantages from many people's perspectives, but I feel it is important that audiences see a new actor in the role as "the new Joker" and not "the new Heath Ledger".

He wouldn't really be the "new Heath"...I'm just saying there is some good resemblance there and, since we will definitely be seeing the joker again and he will probably not be in a reboot and thus a continuation of The Dark Knight's Joker, it's a good thing.

But he looks the part and is a tremendous and under-used actor.

yeha we wouldnt want a mirror image of what heath did,something fresh yet similar to what we had would be best

levitt really does resemble ledger very much, but what ledger pulled off was unique and probably impossible to emulate. For instance, I don't think he'll be able to get the same vocal tics, and cadence right. Not worth it IMHO.

I think if we see Joker again, it's gotta be a high caliber player, say Day-Lewis, and the Joker is somewhat transformed, such as Day-Lewis being more suave and having a messy pompadour.

But I think leaving this joker performance in tact is the best and most respectful thing to do.
