The Dark Knight The Man Who Laughs: The Joker Thread 2.0

Yes, imagine all of the things that they could do to make this game really fun to play. I also think it'd be cool if they added a Joker skin to the game.

Game Informer subscribers are in for a real treat this month. We’re proud to bring you the world-exclusive first look at Batman: Arkham Asylum from Rocksteady Studios and Eidos. This completely original title explores Gotham City’s darkest location, the infamous Arkham Asylum. But as a routine prison transfer goes wrong, The Joker sets his demented plan into action and Batman comes face to face with an army of his worst enemies. In a dark and gritty setting reminiscent of Bioshock (with a story co-written by Paul Dini), Arkham Asylum is setting the stage for a true-to-character Batman game.

huh, the Joker looks more like the Brian Bolland version on this cover, except that the red on his lips goes past his mouth.... already incorporating the "cut smile" into other versions? hmmm...

I don't mind incorporating the cut smile into more versions....and when does this game come out?

Where do you see cuts? The only things taken from TDK are the black eye makeup and red lipstick. Everything else is "traditional".

It does sort of look like he has a glasglow smile but most of it is the traditional comic look for sure.

I guess one could see a similarity, but all it is, is an extended lipstick line. Like Cesar Romero.

I read Paul Dini is writing the game so I'm sure the Joker's going to be awesome.

Yep, that'd be pretty sweet.

Icing on the cake would be Hamil voicing the Joker once again.

My thoughts exactly. Although I can't imagine how they're going to make a Joker boss battle work. But this game could be great and the fact that it's not a film tie in is a good sign.
I reckon we'll see the inkblot scene from the graphic novel. Where Batman is saying what he sees, maybe they'll even put in Joker's "another pretty flower" line as well.

The report over on the video game thread heavily hinted that Hamill would be voicing Joker, and Conroy would be voicing Batman.

any word on what artists are working on the game? designs and such. Who did that Joker illustration?

And I really hope we can possibly have flashback moments to famous villain encounters from the comics. Imagine a video game version of The Killing Joke. Now that would be pretty damn cool.

Did they say that the whole Thug meeting/Joker speech was improvised? But how could it have been, if Joker did the pencil trick? Someone explain?

It wasn't all improvised. The basic scene was laid out in the script. Heath Ledger just, I believe, improvised in a few extra/alternate lines and mannerisms, here and there.

Things like his "...yeah" and "no I'm not no I'm noT" were not in the script. And the entire scene was actually shot in a different order. In the script they actually had the Joker come in in the middle of the meeting and then the mob bosses continue talking to Lau after he leaves. They made the right choice when they changed it.

yea i think ledger improvised in a lot of his scenes, thats why i think he is deserving of so much praise. he didn't just follow the script word for word like most actors do.

And even when he did follow the script, the delivery was actually better than what was written. There were so many lines that could have turned out corny, such as:

"Why so serious?"
"Come on, hit me!"
"Tonight you're gonna break your one rule!"

So many of Joker's lines, on paper, sound very catchphrase-like. That could have easily worked against the character. But Ledger really delivered in making these lines sound so genuine.

''Come on, hit me'' blows my damn mind, he looks and sounds completely possessed at that moment, gives me chills every time.

yea its all about reliance. some actors, well probly most actors would rely on the director for direction. but you know when you have a great talent when they can take the info giving to them and then add their own spin to it. its like Jazz music, most of what you hear is never written down its just the artist getting caught in the moment and just going with the flow. i sensed that in a lot of moments with the joker.

You mean the small bit when he's kinda talking to himself?

"Cooome on, IwantyoutodoitIwantyoutodoit, come on, hit me, hit me...."

If so, I completely. That was one of the few times you could see him truly focused on one thing, and his eyes were just psychotic.

yea i loved that scene, when he starts bowling towards batman he cracks his neck back into place!! damn thats badass.

yea i wonder if the digitally altered heaths voice in some scenes like they did with bales. the gambol scene and the fake batman tape "LOOK AT ME" just dont sound like they can come from a human being!
