...Or Midnighter could you know kill them

Mine is a Midnighter who's been trying to give up a lofe of violence. And in any event, Midnighter doesn't tend to kill people unless they deserve it or they really piss him off, and the Waynes are genuinely good human beings.

Multiversers: Unlimited Application

Codename: Sonic

Real name: Olgilvie Maurice Hedgehog (though he'll never ever admit that's his real name)

Human name (if applicable): Not really applicable since he ain't human.

Mission Reserve or Chosen?: I guess Chosen, since I doubt there'll be too many missions specifically involving the Archie Comics universe.

Age: 17

Height: 5'4"

Weight: 125 lbs.

Eyes: Green

Hair: Blue

Occupation: Adventurer, former paramilitary Freedom Fighter

Marital Status: single

Known Relatives: Jules Hedgehog (father, roboticized), Bernadette Hedgehog (mother, roboticized), Sir Charles Hedgehog (uncle, roboticized)

Group Affiliation (history of group needed): The Freedom Fighters

During the reign of Robotnik, the Freedom Fighters were a small army of rebels, consisting of different cells all over Mobius, all sworn to removing the tyrant and restoring the rightful king. After over a decade of fighting, Robotnik's empire crumbled, and the new Knothole Kingdom was established in its stead. In this new age, the Freedom Fighters are a paramilitary force which serves to protect the Kingdom from all outside enemies, particularly the Eggman Empire.

Though the group was usually led by Princess Sally Acorn, it was Sonic who acted as field commander, as well as an inspirational symbol for the team.

Universe/Timeline history*:

It is thousands of years into the future, and the human race is all but extinct for unknown reasons. In its place rose the Mobians, animals of all different species who evolved into humanoid form. They soon became the dominant life-form on Earth, which they came to know as Mobius.

The Mobians were once led by the Kingdom of Acorn, who ruled benevolently for generations. However, the rule of the Acorns did not extend to the 'Overlanders,' a race of humans who wanted to take their world back. The Great War between Mobian and human lasted decades, with neither side able to fully conquer the other.

Eventually, an Overlander warlod by the name of Julian Ivo defected to assist the Mobian king Maximillian. Using Ivo's technology, the Mobians defeated the Overlanders, driving them out of their land forever. However, their victory was short-lived, as Ivo betrayed the King, banishing him to the Zone of Silence and establishing himself as supreme ruler of Mobius.

Now calling himself 'Robotnik,' the tyrant led a robotic army to enslave the kingdom, hunting down Mobians and having them 'roboticized,' a process which turned organic material into cybernetic constructs. Those who managed to survive the first wave fled deep into the Great Forest, into the hidden sanctuary of Knothole.

From there, they began a rebellion, which eventually was headed by the king's daughter Sally, and championed by Sonic the Hedgehog. Though it was at first an unorganized mob, the Freedom Fighters and their allies soon became capable of full-fledged war against Robotnik and his forces.

Eventually, the war was won. Robotnik's plans for total domination were ruined, his empire collapsed, and he himself was apparently killed. The Mobians slowly but surely emerged from their hideaways and established the Knothole Kingdom, with the Princess Sally being declared ruler until King Max could be brought back to their world.

After a few years, Robotnik re-emerged with an improved army and a bit of an identity crisis, going back and forth between calling himself 'Robotnik' and 'Eggman.' His forces swiftly invaded, taking huge portions of the Kingdom. Now a new war rages between the Knothole Kingdom and the Eggman Empire.

(say what you will about the Archie comics, but they have one hell of a detailed back-story)

History:

Sonic was born into a well-respected family that had close ties with the Royal family of Acorn. His father Jules was fatally wounded in the Great War against the Overlanders, and to save his life, Sonic's uncle Sir Charles had him roboticized. However, due to Ivo's sabotage, the process turned Jules into a mindless slave, who quickly forced the same process on the rest of his family, save for Sonic. Though he was only a child, Sonic was able to help the Princess Sally escape to Knothole during the first stages of Robotnik's invasion.

As he grew up, Sonic spent the majority of his life running special missions for the Freedom Fighters, quickly becoming a hero to the rebellion. Time and time again, he faced Robotnik directly and defeated him and any other powers that rose as threats to Mobius. He also befriended a two-tailed fox named Miles, who he nicknamed 'Tails.' The name stuck, and the two became an inseparable duo, Sonic teaching Tails the tricks of the trade as an adventurer and fighter.

Once Robotnik was thrown down for good, he became a steward to the throne, and it was believed that he would eventually marry Sally and become king.

However, during the years between Robotnik's apparent death and his return, Sonic found himself at odds with the Princess on several occasions, both professionally and personally. This was worsened when Sonic was apparently killed fighting an alien menace known as the Xorda, though he was in fact transported across the galaxy. It took him over a year to return, and by then, most of his friends were drastically different (particularly Sally), the Knothole Kingdom was now ruled by Sally's long-lost brother Elias, and the Eggman Empire had already taken its hold.

Returning to a world that has learned how to go on without him, Sonic now tries to band his old friends together again to fight a war that he thought he'd already won.

Skills:

Sonic is an adept hand-to-hand fighter, and is fairly good at operating vehicles (though he usually leaves that to his best friend/apprentice Tails). During to his year-long voyage in space, he was given a cybernetic implant that allows him to speak and understand any language.

Powers (comparative to main comic book characters):

Sonic has the ability to move at incredible velocity, surpassing the speed of sound. When moving at such speeds, his reflexes and agility are raised correspondingly, and he is by some means shielded from the physical damage that would normally occur (this also applies to anyone or anything he may happen to be carrying). He does not know how he acquired such powers, but it hardly matter to him.

Hero, anti-hero, villain?:

Hero. Sonic can be loudmouthed and arrogant, but at the end of the day, he's determined to look out for his friends, and stop injustice wherever he finds it.

Brief Sample Post (In the format you plan to portray your character in-game):

Sonicrun_2006.png

I live for this.

The world around me is a blur, objects seeming to melt into each other as I fly past them. I barely feel the ground as it passes under me, and I can't hear anything, because, well, you hardly ever hear anything when you're going faster than sound itself.

Saying it's a rush would be an understatement. Heck, calling that an understatement is an understatement. Here I am, going at speeds that ought to turn my body into paste, and instead I'm smiling as I go.

I glance over my shoulder and realize that they're starting to trail behind me. I slow down just enough to let them think they're catching up.

sonic-the-hedgehog-next-gen-2005090.jpg

Two of them for now, but if I know anything about old Buttnik, there's bound to be more on the way. These new bots he's got are pretty slick compared to the boring old swat-bots and buzz-bombers, but if I can get to an open area to take them on, they shouldn't be any sort of challenge.

Finally, we reach a clearing. I skid to a halt, kicking up a huge cloud of dirt as the two robots fly ahead of me. Once they realize they've passed me up, they circle back. Good...now to stall them until their friends arrive.

PRIORITY TARGET, YOU ARE SURROUNDED. SURRENDER, AND MEET YOUR END QUICKLY.

Just as I was hoping, the other bots, about a half-dozen in all, start coming in from all sides. Now that I know where they are, it'll be easy to take them down by the numbers.

"Hey, not that I don't like being threatened by a future scrap-heap, but I'm gonna wrap this little party up quickly, okay?"

I pick up a rock off of the ground, and hold it out at shoulder-height. I've always wanted to try this.

"Hey, Buttnik! I know you're watching, so I thought I'd give you a show. Get a load of this!"

I open my hand, letting the rock fall. That instant, the world seems to slow to a halt. I don't know any other way to explain it, but that's how it feels. The robot has already aimed his weapon, and fires a laser. No matter how fast I am, I can't outrun the speed of light. Thing is, by the time the weapon's fired, I'm already on the move.

sonic-the-hedgehog-2006081804172595.jpg

I sprint towards the closest bot and launch myself into the air. Both of my feet connect, kicking its chest-plate in as I shove off of it and leap to my next target.

This one I overshoot intentionally, sailing over it and grabbing onto the robot's head as I go. Technically, I shouldn't be strong enough to pull its head off, but after all, force is mass times acceleration, and I've got a heck of a lot of acceleration going on. The head pops right off, I ricochet off of a third robot, and the acrobatics continue.

sonic-the-hedgehog-2006051000373497.jpg

The last three are firing wildly into the air as I curl myself into a ball and begin to spin. Going this fast, the effect is like some weird cross between a buzzsaw and a wrecking ball as I bounce back and forth between them, pulverizing the machines into junk. I already know Sally is going to have my head for not bringing back some usable tech, but I can always find another.

With all six robots destroyed, I skid to a stop....and catch the rock before it hits the ground.

Like I said....I live for this.

If I can say anything, it's that Midnighter will love fighting alongside this crazy little hedgehog man. :woot:

EDIT: Also, I'm thinking of dropping the retired Midnighter angle and just having him be the regular Midnighter. But I'm undecided. What do you guys think?

Andy, well, wow. I really feel bad about this, since you obviously put alot into that application, but we feel that it'd be better if we'd go a much more serious route for the game right now. (Other mission settings will be quite ridiculous, such as a possible all-Deadpool universe, Duckworld, and others.) I will not be playing a Chosen, so you can have Hellboy.

Well, why can't Sonic be taken seriously? I mean, sure, he's a talking animal, but besides that his story can lend itself to drama very well. A mutant freedom fighter with super speed taking on a techno dictator in a dystopian future sounds pretty serious to me. Hell, a good writer can make a very good cyberpunk action book out of Sonic if he put his mind to it.

I was about to debate that point, but Question beat me to it. I mean yeah, Sonic's a kids' character primarily, but there's some fun stuff you can do with it. 'sides, you did say any character.

Multiversers: Unlimited Application

Codename: Boy Blue

Real name: Boy Blue

Human name (if applicable): Boy Blue

Mission Reserve or Chosen?: (NOTE: You can play one of each. There's a max of six Chosen, and the MRCs are mission specific and must be tied to the Universe the mission is set in.) Chosen

Age: Well over a millenium old

Height: 6'0"

Weight: 190 lbs

Eyes: Blue

Hair: Blonde

Occupation: Musician, soldier, office clerk

Marital Status: Single (on again off again with Red Riding Hood, though it was not the real Red.)

Known Relatives: None

Group Affiliation (history of group needed): Fables

Universe/Timeline history*: Earth 1001. Boy Blue comes from originally a world of nursery rhyme characters, that world and several others were conquered by an oppresive Emperor known only as the Adversary. Blue and several others fled for a safer world. They set up two communities, one in NYC and one in upstate New York where many Fairy Tale, Fable, Folklore and Nursery Rhyme characters live. They are now engaged in a cold war with the Kingdom of the Emperor.

History:
Before coming to Fabletown, Boy Blue was an active fighter against the Adversary. He joined the fight during the time of Napolean (whose campaigns Blue thinks were caused by some sort of "sympathetic magic" from the Fable worlds). This was at the tail end of the Adversary's campaign against the European fables, with most of them having either escaped to the mundane world, been enslaved or killed.
Blue fought with Colonel Bearskin's Free Company, eventually becoming the colonel's aide-de-camp. He survived "Boxen, Ruby Lake, Oakcourt, and the hellish rout at Hollyfield", among others. His last battle was a defense of the castle guarding the last portal to the mundane world. A ragtag force, including Robin Hood and his Merrie Men, were to hold the fort while a single ship took as many people as possible to the new world.
The day before the battle, a woman who claimed to be Red Riding Hood rode into the fort nearly dead from arrow wounds. She and Blue quickly became infatuated with each other, to the extent that she suggested that Friar Tuck should marry them so that Blue would have a seat on the last ship. Citing his duty, he refused. Arriving for battle in the morning, he learned his new orders: he would observe the battle from a high parapet and, at the appropriate time, would use a powerful item known as the Witching Cloak to teleport himself to the ship. Fabletown needed to know what had happened, Bearskin told him, and he wanted Blue and Riding Hood to be together. Unfortunately, when Blue arrived on the ship, he discovered that Riding Hood was not there. Not wanting to live without him, she had given up her spot and stayed behind.
Boy Blue serves as Snow White's office gopher and clerk. His monkey Bufkin is Fabletown's librarian. Blue is one of Fabletown's most skilled musicians; he takes his horn with him everywhere. He will occasionally try to get gigs in Harlem jazz and blues clubs, but is always told that he is too young, too white or "too hayseed". His roommate is Pinocchio; the two of them, along with Flycatcher are best friends. Blue seems to live a typical "nerdy" lifestyle, avidly reading comic books and playing board games. He wears Chuck Taylor All-Stars.
Blue's life changed after Red Riding Hood suddenly appeared in Fabletown, claiming to have recently escaped the Adversary. She was initially angry at Blue, claiming that he had abandoned her to the Adversary's forces. However, she soon sought him out and said she was sorry and wanted to resume their relationship. After a sexual encounter, he realized that she was not the Riding Hood he remembered (it transpired that she was Baba Yaga using Red's form as a mystical disguise). Along with three wooden soldiers, she interrogated him under severe torture for several days, breaking all his fingers, before having the soldiers deliver him, along with a message from the Adversary, to the Woodlands business office.
Against Snow's objections, Blue had Dr. Swineheart patch him up and bind the Vorpal Sword to his hand so that he could fight in the Battle of Fabletown where he was injured by gunfire. Dr. Swineheart continued to rehabilitate him, doing so good a job that Blue was able to play his horn again.
With the election of Prince Charming as mayor, Blue resigned from the government. One night, he abruptly left for the Homelands, taking the Vorpal Sword, the Witching Cloak and Pinocchio's body. Using the full capabilities of the Witching Cloak, Blue cut a swath of destruction across the Homelands. He killed thousands of soldiers, killed and impersonated multiple governors (always ordering his underlings to lower tax rates), slew a dragon through cleverness and guile, and defeated the three knights of the Rus. This is when he gets pulled from his timeline for our stories purposes.

Skills: Brilliant musician, very skilled combatant, especially with a blade. Great tactition.

Powers (comparative to main comic book characters): Owner of the Witching Cloak (provides impregnable armor; can't be burnt, stretched or ripped; and allows a large degree of shape-shifting and limited teleportation) and the Vorpal Sword (an enchanted sword that cuts through nearly anything).

Hero, anti-hero, villain?: Hero

Brief Sample Post (In the format you plan to portray your character in-game):

Boy Blue snuck up on the goblin, the Witching Cloak making it easy to stay silent. He stuck the point of the Vorpal Sword in the small of the goblin's back, just far enough to draw blood and literally scare the p**s out of the ugly green monster.

"The Adversary, is he near?!?"

"Oh no! Youse th' un who's been killin all the troops ain'tcha? Noon' else'da dare call the mighty Imporor that. He'll eatcher entrails fur that un."

"Just shut up and tell me if his tour of the 'empire' is still on schedule."

"Wha de guff dya think I know. I'm a grunt ******."

"Oh. Well guess I don't need to keep you alive then, do I?"

"Wha?!? Wait!!!! Yes, he'll be here tomorrow!!! Just don't kill me!!!!"

"Well thanks, but I still don't need you alive."

With that Blue quickly took the sword out, and swung it through the thick neck of the Gob, and the head rolled to the floor.

Okay, now you have to get accepted. I can see it now....

Sonic, Blue, and Midnighter are backed into a corner, surrounded by an army of zombified superhumans.

"There certainly are alot of them."

"Yup."

"How are we going to do this?"

"I take the 500 on the left, you take the 500 on the right, and Sonic gets the stragglers."

"HEY!"

"We need a better plan than that."

"Best plan we've got."

"True."

"Still, let's make this interesting."

"How?"

"Let's see who can take out the most."

"You've got to be kidding me."

"Whoever collects the most heads wins."

"You are SO on!"

"Okay. On your mark. Get set..."

Midnighter rushes into the croud of zombies.

"Cheater!"

Sonic follows after him.

"Jesus Christ..."

Blue jumps in, impaling a zombie with his first strike.

GL's accepted.

And on the Sonic issue... One of the main reasons it was turned down was because it better fits some of the future missions we have in mind. However, Hellboy, Andy's first choice, fits this one better than Sonic. And since SF isn't going to play Hellboy, Andy's free to play him.

But why not have Sonic now and simply keep him around for the later stories? I mean, he's Sonic the freakin' Hedgehog.

Not to mention that just about everyone else is playing the grim and gritty take-me-seriously characters. Shouldn't one of the Chosen be someone with a bit of a lighter personality? I mean, they're the good guys, aren't they?

Anyway, as much as I'd like to use the character, if it's going to be an issue, I'll just drop it and go as Hellboy.

"...apparently dressing up like an animal is fine, but nooo, can't actually be one....*grumbles*"

"What are you, dense? Are you ******ed or something? Who the hell do you think I am? I'm the goddamn Batman."

Seriously, though, I'm fine with Sonic. SF is too... Just not for this particular mission. And he makes the rules. Sorry. :csad:

After reviewing it, Andy, you can play Sonic. This is why we have the two GM acceptance rule. Good luck.

Believe me, I've just eaten humble pie, and it was bitter. The first post will be changing somewhat tomorrow, and the roster update will take effect then. Everything will be the same, just different in the exact details.

EDIT: Andy, you can play him now.

Wow, Never thought I would be dreading playing Superman. I'm afraid I can't compete with all these characters.

You are SUPERMAN from KINGDOM COME, dammit!

And, yes, this should be an interesting team.

C'mon, chin up! You're playing the greatest-ever incarnation of the greatest-ever superhero, and more than likely will be leading our strange little band. I've read your stuff in the other RPGs, and it's solid. If anything, picking up KC Supes will be your time to really shine.

UNIT is a military task force that works directly with the United Nations. Their goal is to protect the Earth from alien threats. For a time, The Doctor served as UNIT's scientific advisor.

Universe/Timeline history*:

The planet: Gallifrey. On this planet lived a race of beings known as the Time Lords. This race discovered the means to travel through space and time, however always vowed never to interfere with history. During their existance, they have only made one exception, which ultimately led to the great Time War and their destruction.

Rassilon was the creator of the Time Lord society. Through his wisdom and power, he created the laws of time. It is unclear if Rassilon is dead or not, but his power remains ever present in his "tomb", which is located in a part of Gallifrey known as The Death Zone. The laws of time, however, are enforced by a President of the Time Lords on Gallifrey, to whom which the power of Rassilon is entrusted.

The first Time Lord to use time travel was known as Omega. He harnessed the power of black hole and created The Eye of Harmony. In doing so, he became trapped on the other side of the black hole and vowed revenge on his people for it.

The machine used to travel through space and time is known as a TARDIS (Time and Relative Dimensions in Space). Each TARDIS is linked to The Eye of Harmony in order to power itself.

As mentioned before, The Time Lords would not use their vast power to manipulate events. They did, however, involve themselves in what became known as The Time War, where they faced an evil race known as Daleks. Both races are thought to be extinct. However, only one Time Lord remains.

History:
The Doctor was a member of the Time Lord society until he renounced them for his own reasons. Now, he is merely a traveler, in a TARDIS which is said to be stolen and outdated. Because of the sometimes inaccurate technology in his ship, The Doctor constantly finds himself in places and situations he would rather avoid.

The Doctor has traveled around different universes for centuries, always with some form of companion and always with the intention of seeing things he has never seen before. He has traveled in a number of different forms himself, first as a crotchety old man, then as a bumbling, clownish imp, and later as a debonair sort of gentleman. In his current form, he is somewhat bohemian, somewhat crazy, but most definately one who loves adventure.

In his travels, The Doctor has made it a point to interfere as opposed to just observing. But he does so in a manner that, in his opinion, is good for everyone. This interfering has made a lot of enemies for him, but much more allies. He has faced off with threatening races, such as the Daleks, Cybermen, Ice Warriors, and Autons just to name a few.

The biggest aspect of The Doctor himself is how much of a mystery he really is. He is usually gone as quickly as he arrived. His thought process and reasoning is constantly hard to understand. His past, especially his life on Gallifrey, is shrouded in mystery. It is known, however, that he loves the human race and has aided them on several occasions. For a time, he worked closely with a military force known as UNIT during a time where he was exiled on Earth. While in exile, The Doctor lost the ability to travel through time and space as the secrets of the TARDIS became hidden.

Now out of exile and the secrets of his TARDIS with him once more, The Doctor continues to explore the different worlds, and continues to get himself into trouble.

Skills:

The Doctor is a man of vast knowledge. He has an amazing intellect and usually can come up with a plan to get out of the tightest of situations. It is thought that The Doctor is somewhat of a telepath and that his mind can do more than it seems. If he indeed has these sort of powers, then The Doctor chooses to hide them. He is somewhat skilled in fighting (a previous incarnation being trained in martial arts), but prefers not to get his hands dirty...too much.

Powers (comparative to main comic book characters):

The Doctor does not have any noteworthy powers beyond his ability to regenerate when his body wears out. He has one particular device, however, known as a sonic screwdriver, and can get him out of a lot of situations.

Hero, anti-hero, villain?: Hero

My ship once again materialized in a place I was unfamiliar with. Of course, this isn't something that will stop me from taking a look around. I leave my TARDIS, letting my scarf trail behind me. From the looks of it, I'm on some sort of space carrier. Maybe a military outpost of some kind. As I take in my surroundings, I notice that most of it contains armed guards. Yes, definately a military outpost. One of the guards approches me directly.

"You are unauthorized personel and you will come with us."

Right to the point, I see.

"I have a better idea. Why don't I go with you. That way we can straighten this whole thing out, hm? No need for the guns, though. Cause nothing but trouble. Besides, I constantly find myself at a particular end that makes me nervous and I try not to be nervous...jelly baby?"

The guard seems unamused by my offering of sweets. Perhaps he already ate. At least that is something to ponder as I am being led to who appears to be the commander of this outpost. I can tell he is just anxious to ask many questions that I've heard before.

"Hello. I'm The Doctor. I'm sure your name is very important, but not so much where I can't find out later, now listen. I know you must be thinking it takes some tactical genius to get onto your ship almost undetected, hm? Well, it's true, I am a genius but I swear that I got here by accident. As much as I love my ship, she tends to be unreliable, but you didn't hear that from me...she's sensitive, you know."

"Enough, Doctor. You will only speak when spoken to."

"Yes, well I find that statement to be a bit of a conundrum. See, if I am not important enough to speak at my own will, than certainly neither are you, but one of has to speak first or else we never will, hm? You know, this concept is quite interesting and I do believe that I should look into it. I will be sure to get my findings back to you as soon as possible."

As I create an air of confusion, I make my way through the door I was just led through and back down the corridor to my TARDIS, leaving the commander and the guards in a state of frozen confusion. Now, let's see if I can time this right...3...2...1...

"STOP HIM!"

I was right. Nice night for a run, hm?
