The New Ghostbusters - Part 5

I'll say this much about the entire production: Great comedic actresses, everybody's love for the originals, and Paul making it a horror movie (his first horror film) so that'll be interesting. Those are the high points for me, I'm just upset that they decided not to make it a continuation or have this set in another city to branch a new franchise.

You people are ridiculous. You realize that Bill Murray doesn't owe you or anyone else anything, correct? Who are you to say that him passing up on the older script and doing this is good or bad? Right or wrong? Or a money grab for that matter.

For petes sake, we're talking about got damn Ghostbusters. Not some piece of classic art that's been around for millennia.

We don't get to decide what other people find important or how strongly they might feel about it.

But for movie fans in general it's a different story....Ghostbusters is actually still in the top 100 domestic flicks of all time, and that's even unadjusted. Only 80's flicks to hold there are Ghostbusters, Indy, Jaws, Star Wars and ET. It's definitely in classics by todays standards.

The flick was big and had impact. Bill Murray or not, this film has to do what any other remake has to do, and that's take what the audience liked and make it better. The name's gonna sale and make cash, but if they don't actually include what people liked about Ghostbusters and improve it's gonna crash as a franchise. Nobody wants a half assed Ghostbusters that just kinda reminds them of the original only not as good. The original is too popular of a film still in todays culture. Especially the 20-50 demo. Which is a huge percentage of box office movie goers. I know a few on here are saying they can't repeat things like terror dogs, Stay puft etc but if this flick does not have them then it has to out do them and give something better that they will like. This is not a sequel. People are gonna expect them, and it would be a bit crazy to think otherwise in something called a reboot.

I really think this will be the most interesting release next year fan and gen wise. It's either gonna get a lot of backlash or a lot of fan support come it's release.

Even if this movie ends up sucking (and given that I really enjoyed Spy, I'm willing to give Feig the benefit of the doubt for now), that doesn't "ruin" anything. The original is still there for everyone to go back to and enjoy. And honestly, nostalgia value aside, I have long since realized that the second movie wasn't all that good either. So you're basically 1 for 2 as far as these films go already.

I can easily see why Murray wouldn't want to devote months of his life to a Ghostbusters movie, but would be willing to do a cameo.

So is this movie in the same universe as the original films? Judging by who Murray appears as, it doesn't appear so. Which is very disappointing. It doesn't make sense where this is obviously the next generation of Ghostbusters yet how could they exist without the original Ghostbusters? It's like the original never existed in a way. In the previous movies sure, but it the logic of it doesn't make sense for me. As well intentioned as this is, it just comes off as disrespectful to the the original films and what they paved the way for this movie to begin with. I'm still totally on board with this movie and it has a real shot at being great but this is the one thing I don't agree with.

The problem with GB2 for me, well besides being disappointing in general, is simple. I've read stuff from Ramis (RIP) and Aykroyd where they mentioned having trouble coming up with new/compelling ideas for the sequel, and it really shows. They do that thing that always annoys me with sequels, hit the reset button so that they essentially do the same arc as the first movie all over again. And GB2 does that A LOT! It's like writers cannot think of good ways to PROGRESS stories beyond their initial idea, so they just do said idea all over again with a slightly different coat of paint.

2 for 2 for me, hell I enjoy GB2 more than the original.

I liked the second one as well, especially the Bobby Brown song on the soundtrack. I played the hell out of it as a teenager.

Still love Cheech Marin's cameo - "Better late than never." lol

Another set pic. Another eye roll. This time featuring handlebar neutrino-wands.

His face is killing me in that pic. He looks so proud, lol.

If Hemsworth wanted to do more comedies, he needs to hook up with Judd Apatow, or at least the people associated with him.

Um, he is. Feig was the creator of Freaks and Geeks and directed the Apatow-produced Bridesmaids. If that doesn't make him Apatow-adjacent, I don't know what does.

For those of you that don't know:

Set videos show him being "possessed" by a ghost before getting on the motorcycle.

Judging from his eyeglasses and the fact that his name is written on his name tag in black marker, sloppily, he will be the nerdy clumsy receptionist (think if Janine and Louis had a kid) that the characters will probably hit on the entire time. I will also assume he wants to be a Ghostbuster but the team thinks he's too dumb to handle it, hence the grin on his face wearing the uniform and the make-shift name tag (they are probably in a pickle and he is on the way to save the day).

The look on his face is killing me. It looks like they're redoing the scene from GB2 where Louis puts on a uniform to go help the team.

That's probably what it is. He's trying to "help," but is so clumsy/awkward that he ends up not contributing much. Sort of a combination of Janine and Louis's characters. Plus he just looks so adorkable.

Why Chris, why!?!??!?!??! Why did you have to subject yourself to this crap? :csad: lol

Oh no!!!!!!!!!! They have a guy on a motorcycle in this film...so terrible. This movie will bomb so hard.
