The New Heroes RPG Sign-up

Well seing a how much focus we currently have on heaven, hell, angels, demons, and other religious archetypes, why don't we have an end of the world scenario? Why not have the oposing sides moving people like peices on a chess board so the can put them in situations to become superpowered and eventual try and make them side with them? Sound like a workable idea?

That doesn't allow alot of different storylines over different lengths of time. We would all be trapped in one huge thing with the end of the world.

I'm not really talking about a huge story idea though.
I'm talking about a backstory for the RPG. Like events and such that have taken place before the RPG "begins" (before the current year in the RPG timeline in which all of our characters are starting off at).

For example, setting a specific date, or what not, when the metahumans became known to the public and all these super-powered being started showing up.
Maybe having them first appear, publically, during one of the major wars fighting for both sides (WWII, WWI, Vietnam, etc)?

Making it known how these metas are received by the populace of the planet. Are they feared? Loved?

Possibly come up with something on alien life forms. Are they active on Earth? Does the general public known that they aren't alone in the universe?

Things like that would give a greater sense of "wholeness" to it all, and it would help to intertwine the stories we create in this RPG.

Well than why don't we have them start now. Just as if this was the real world today, and all of a sudden you see these unbaliveable comic heroes on the news, show how people would react to that, comparing them to Superman and Batman. That work?

It would/could work, but it would conflict with what some have already written in their posts.

For instance, my character, Wraith, has been a member of a government agency established to police metas for two years now (the agency has been around for a few decades before him).
Mikestylez made mention of the metahumans already being known and being held/quarantined in San Fran.

It'd wouldn't be hard at all to come up with a simple premise to make things, for lack of better words, fit together.

For example, the metas have been around for a while, but have been in the public eye since the 60s. People were originally scared to death of these living weapons, but have since grown to except them, albeit grudgingly, into society thanks to the actions of the ones who are heroes. Some of the metas are even praised and adored by the public. The government(s) allow the meta heroes some leeway to help protect the planet from those who would use their powers for ill.
The governments of the world have even constructed special prisons to hold these powerful being, the most notable one being in San Francisco.

Etc...

That's just an off the top of my head example. If we work together, we can come up with a simple back story that we all can use and play against in the RPG. It would really make the RPG run smoother with less chances for people's stories to contain conflicting elements.

Personaly I was gona ask mike to edit that part as to not have to much detail on it until we could decide. And I figured that maybe they had been around for a while but agencies like yours could have done a good job at keeping the situation contained and out of public veiw.........until now. Whatcha think?

My character's been, in my mind, a hero eight months prior to where I started my story. He's just now been spotted doing his heroics for the first time. I can edit one of my posts where he elaborates that he didn't know other people in the world had powers, if you want...

Well, that would conflict with people whose character(s) have been in the game for a while (Master Bruce's mention of being around for about 8 months or so for example).

As for having past situations kept contained, we can always spin it so that government agencies, such as the BMA, have kept things pretty much under wraps (ala MIB). Only problem is, short of a neuralizer (:o), it'd be damn near impossible to have kept everything under wraps for years.
It's not like the whole UFO conspiracy thing in the world today. Metas would have been walking among humans every day, all year long. And not all of them would want to keep a low profile. Some would rob banks. Some would act as simple thugs. And then there's the ones who'd go completely psycho and start wasting people dozens at a time.

How about this for a flexible guideline (and everyone feel free to shoot this down if you aren't comfortable with it, expand upon it if you wish, or totally come up with something else):
Metas have been around, publically, since the ending of the second World War (or Vietnam, or whenever...doesn't really have to be an event in real history. We could create our own), when it was discovered that the governments of the world used them as soldiers (the event that made them known could be anything, and could become a nice little piece of history for our Earth).
The governments, now forced to acknowledge their existance, began setting up special agencies to keep them under watch and police their activities. After many years, metas have become a part of human society and are no longer widely feared for their powers and hated (though some groups may still harbor hatred for them. Sort of like a KKK against metas, or what not). Some metas have used their powers to help people, becoming heroes in the public eye, and protect the populace from the ones of their kind who would abuse their powers and use them for their own selfish ends.

Mike wouldn't have to edit his post completely, as it could be said that their is simply a major metahuman prison in San Fran. Just as each country has their own facility for holding the super-powered criminals.

Now, I'm not saying you all have to run with my idea. You can alter it or suggest something else entirely.
My point is that we all should agree on something before we start to really move on in this RPG.

are you guys still accepting new characters? because I've got one I'd love to enter but i didn't want to intrude if you are not.
I've got one character I'm strongly attached to and another I'm working on.
I could play either one you'd rather me.

we are always accepting new people...and it would be great if he was a villian but if not thats ok...just put up the app.

Ok JB, I think it could work, but lets not call them Metahumans or Mutants, as that is to easily traced back to DC and Marvel, instead lets have our own word.....something specificaly for this RPG and world........i can't think of one myself yet but I'll get back to ya.

SuGarRush, you are more than welcome here, give us all ya got!

LOL, how about "post-human"? No offense, but Morphasides is a really silly name.

HumanXP (Im kidding)

Erm, I dunno...

nick something from Doctor Who...

Proto-Humans... yeah...

:(

I like post-human. Also I thought of people calling them Evos, and religious extremsts calling them Evils to have that extremest kink, like when they call evolutionists evilutionists.....?

Most transhumanists call them transhumans, or post humans. Since they're the next step AFTER human. Or so they believe. Either way, I know I only have one other post under my belt, but I'll ask if I can join anyway. I know someone said that they're always looking for new members, but I kind of figured it'd probably be uncomfortable for someone new like me to join without maybe at least someone consenting to it.

ok here is what we do, you PM me or OC a preview post of you writting ability and we will either accept or decline you...so just pm us a "post" as a character in 1st person and we will approve or decline...and it has happend both ways so dont worry.

If you are interested in joining your more than welcome, but due to the lack of a post count, I would just need you to send me or Spartin2008 a sample post first. Sound good?

Name: Marcus

Known As: Vapour

Location: Unknown (His field of work requires much mobility)

Side(hero/villain/unknown): Unknown

Description:
Age - 47
Height – 5ft 7in
Weight – 135 lbs

History:
The assassin known as Vapour was found in a dumpster behind a pub in Washington D.C. as an infant, near death and prematurely birthed. The woman who found him raised him (she named him Marcus) with her husband; and their house was one of mixed cultures. Marcus’s father was British and his mother was Japanese. His training began before he could walk to insure that he knew of honor, independence, and respect. He took interest in his mother’s Japanese heritage and spent many of his teenage years with his grandfather who furthered his instruction. Secretly he trained with the weapons of the ninja and he felt a deep connection with the mysterious role.

It was on his 21st birthday that Marcus received word that his family had been murdered. His mother, father, and younger twin sisters had all been slain in cold blood the night before. Marcus had been in Japan, immersing himself in the lore and stories of the ninja. His grandfather immediately left for Japan and met Marcus at his hotel lobby and told him the news. Marcus’s grandfather knew it was the Yakuza that had been the cause of his family’s murder. His grandfather had been an assassin for their organization in his early years and when he refused to aid them once more, the Yakuza had done this to “persuade” him to change his mind. It was in the moment that Marcus died and he and his grandfather went into seclusion. For 12 years he trained and honed his skills on a small island off of Japan and only when his grandfather finally died, did he begin his quest for vengeance.

In his mid 30s he began to work his way up as an assassin for hire. He became well known for his skill in versatility and stealth and was nicknamed Vapour. By age 40 he had become a myth that many no longer believed was real. He still continues his profession and quest for vengeance, but has begun to lose his step if nothing but old age.

Stats:
Strength - Trained
Dexterity - Trained
Fortitude/Stamina - Adept
Speed - Trained
Intelligence - Trained

Skills: Trained in many forms of martial arts, tactics, and stealth techniques.

Power(s): None…..yet.

(His powers and stats will change as the character develops. I really do not want to give it all away in this application so if Spartin2008 is interested in knowing beforehand, I can PM him the plan.)
