Okay, if these new mutants are trapped in a facility, then just based on Stranger Things alone, Heaton has what it takes to play a jittery, nervous teenage character. And him being cast, with Stranger Things taking place in the 80s, even though there's no comparison, makes me think more that this will take place in the past.

Heaton has got that River Phoenix look, if Boone wanted that kinda vibe in the film at all (regardless of time placement)

Jonathan was very sad, introverted and depressing. The complete opposite of Sam who's a lovable naive all American boy. Maybe he can pull it off but nothing about his performance in Stranger Things seemed reminiscent of Sam's personality from your description other than boy were teenage boys

Which is why I said he'd fit that of the trapped teenage boy and didn't say he was 1:1 with the character itself. We don't know if any of these actors will fit the personalities of the mutants they're portraying, but I'll wait until there's a teaser or trailer to go off for a better idea.

Charlie & Blu look like they'd fit pretty nicely as a onscreen couple... Very nice!

Being set post DOFP or post Logan makes sense too. Especially with it being title New Mutants and a big part of Logan was the fact that no new mutants have been born in the last 25 years. Of course it screws up continuity since all of those characters should have existed already, especially Sunspot since he was in DOFP but I agree, I don't care about continuity at this point anymore, just make a good film.

All upcoming films should be set post Logan, in my opinion. Well I guess maybe for Deadpool 2.
