The New New Avengers

Oh well, its just...unnecessary is all. In that case i wonder if Dark Avengers will be relaunched too cause that was a top selling book. And if Bendis is writing that one too i'll scream.

Yeah, and see, that's another thing you have to look out for. Looks like no one really claimed that Avengers would be the one and only. Just kind of the tone and wording seemed that way (though it seems there was another article where either Joey Q and Bendis flatout said it, but I may be mistaken). It's all hype, lying, and truth bending. Joey Q and gang know how to spin it.

F-it. Bring back West Coast Avengers, Avengers Spotlight, Dark Avengers, Pet Avengers, Gossip Girl Avengers, Deadpool's Avengers. Bendis can write 'em all.:o:o:o

Right now, we have 2 outright confirmed Avengers titles coming after SIEGE:

- AVENGERS, written by Brian Bendis with art by John Romita Jr.
- SECRET AVENGERRS, written by Ed Brubaker with art by Mike Deodato.

Bleeding Cool, back in 10/2009, rumored that "AVENGERS ACADEMY" would be coming out this year written by Christos Gage with art by Mike McKone - http://www.bleedingcool.com/2009/10...s-gage-and-mike-mckone-term-starts-next-year/

If that is true, that would be 3.

Now, some would say, "we have 4 AVENGERS books now", but it is worth noting that none have been able to hold on to steady sales. AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE relied on crossovers for ages, and while issue #32 will benefit from a reprint, it is selling at the bottom of the Top 50. MIGHTY AVENGERS was bleeding readers during SECRET INVASION, and after an initial spike from Slott's debut issue, they did not return. Even DARK AVENGERS and NEW AVENGERS have fallen steadily since the former became $3.99. There has been no rumor that suggests Dan Slott will be writing an Avengers title after MIGHTY AVENGERS wraps, yet.

Honestly, I would think $3.99 comics are a bit much for this market, and offering comics either cheaper (would Marvel go bankrupt if it sold comics that were, say, at $3.50) or kept at $2.99. Almost all of their $4 launches have died, some in the cradle.

Dude i'm telling you, wait til next year when Cap and Thor's movies come out. You think they're oversaturating the books now? We're gonna see Astonishing Captain America, Steve Rogers: Agent of Shield, Captain America and His Amazing Friends, Captain America and Obama go golfing. And on Thor's side we'll have: Thor, The Mighty Thor, Super Thor!, Super Thor 64, and probably an Astonishing Thor as well. You think i'm kidding.

 And New Avengers, also written by Bendis with art by Immonen.

One could argue that between all of the various mini-series and one-shots of CAPTAIN AMERICA material we have gotten over the past year or so, Cap almost has two ongoing titles right now. How many flashback or art-house mini-series or one shots of Cap have we seen since 2008? Quite a few.

I don't think you are kidding; IRON MAN gains more comics when a movie is due out, and lord knows the only reason Deadpool has some renewed buzz was because of being in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE (briefly). Still, Marvel has been pleased enough with CA to leave Brubaker roughly alone to write it as long as he wants. THOR, which will come out on the big screen before Cap, though, is fair game.

I totally believe that kguillou. I'll do you one better....look at how many god damn books Deadpool has right now. When his movie comes out, I have no doubt in my mind it will TRIPLE. There will probably be a weekly cartoon to follow up the movie.

I don't want to start screaming an "end of the world" scenario, but back in the 90's Marvel did this crap with 50 Venom books and Silver Sable and the Wild Pack had an ongoing. Not to mention they were all foil stamped.

I know Silver Sable is NOWHERE near the level of the Avengers "franchise", but you think Marvel would learn from their past mistakes of overloading the market. Isn't that how Quesada got the EIC job in the first place? Things were so f-ed up, they wanted fresh blood in there and Marvel Knights was a major hit at the time.

Why cancel New Avengers just to relaunch it?

And if there is a New Avengers, why do they have Spider-Woman on the regular team instead of this one?

Because a brand new issue #1 always sells better than an issue# 65 which is what New Avengers will be at by then. Its all about the benjamins yo.

Which is lame, because when New New Avengers hits #35, it'll go back to it's original numbering anyway for the big #100 anniversary issue when the team takes on The Hood's gang AND Hand ninjas AT THE SAME TIME!!!! :wow::wow::wow: and an Avenger dies!!

:awesome:

And if there is a New Avengers, why do they have Spider-Woman on the regular team instead of this one?

You kidding? Marvel has canceled titles just to relaunch them all the time. Often times they don't even change the title. ASM even got that treatment at the end of the 90's, towards the end of the Howard Mackie era. Really, is there a difference between MOON KNIGHT and VENGEANCE OF THE MOON KNIGHT besides 3 words in the title and a new #1? MARVEL ADVENTURES SPIDER-MAN got this treatment, and it's a kiddie book that isn't expected to sell over 10k an issue. Most times when a book relaunches it is either for a new word to the title (like "new") or a new creative team, but sometimes not even that much.

The result? It used to work for a few months. But now, retailers and fans are too wise. So the first 1-2 issues see a spike, and then the title is selling right back where it was.

I think the dilemma is that trying to get triple digits for AVENGERS is a problem. The last volume ended at around issue #504 or something. If you include NEW AVENGERS, DARK AVENGERS, MIGHTY AVENGERS and AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE, you way over-shoot AVENGERS #600. If you only count, say, MIGHTY AVENGERS and NEW AVENGERS into AVENGERS, you have maybe 1-3 years before Marvel can accurately hype and launch AVENGERS #600. Although frankly, Marvel numbering means whatever they want it to mean. We ARE getting WOLVERINE #900 in May, after all. Triple digits are the new #1. Even while relaunching for a new #1 is still done sometimes.

There is an answer to the "diminishing returns" and sometimes sharp fall of comic sales. It isn't in promotional gimmicks or sales stunts, though. The riddle is when or if Marvel and DC will find it.

In that respect i admire DC alot for not resorting to these same cheap "relaunch" tricks like Marvel does. Last year when all the bat-titles disappeared, they didnt relaunch Detective comics to #1 nor Batman. All the original series kept their numbering when they came back. Only the brand new series like Batman and Robin and Streets of Gotham got a #1 because they were brand new. At least they save their #1's for when it really matters. I literally think every month for the past 2-3 years we've had a new #1 every month at Marvel. There's always some book that got cancelled that ends up with a brand new "FIRST ISSUE!!!!" every month.

Dang, it does suck even more that Spider-Woman's on the adjectiveless Avengers now that we know there'll be a New Avengers team. Put her in the bush league where she belongs, damn it. :argh:

THE HELL, BENDIS?! THE HELL?! GAHRAHRAHRHA.

I know you'll be at the next Baltimore Comic-Con Bendis and I will find you. Oh, I will. :cmad:

Spidey is vying with Wolvie for most teams status ( I can hear him complaining,"...and Astonishing, Uncanny, and X-Force all count as one, furball!!!")

PS. Finally i got my chance to use this lol.

I'm really kind of confused now. I have no idea what New Avengers and Avengers' identities are going to be.

Well, is it possible that Spider-Man leaves the Avengers team after the first issue and solidifies himself into New Avengers?

Hmm... ******ed. Not that I mind Spidey being on the team. I like the dynamic he and Luke have, but I think it's stupid to have Spidey on both Avenger teams, just like it's stupid to have Luke on both New Avengers and Thunderbolts.

Nah, it's clearly a marketing strategy. Keep the flagship character on both teams to give the people on the fence about either one incentive to buy both. I bet Wolverine'll be in the New Avengers promos as well. Just give 'em time.

I'm scared since Bendis said Friday's Reveal will probably scare some. Which when it comes to Bendis means, ''RUN FOR THE ****ING HILLS!" :hehe:
