So, I'm bummed out to hear (somewhat old news) that Immonen is leaving New Avengers after issue #8 for a bigger gig. Not sure what Marvel book he's going to land on that he can't talk about. Maybe DD or Invincible Iron Man or an X-Book like Uncanny?

Well I enjoyed issue #7 w/o being able to say exactly why.


.................. Okay,.. I'm thinking it's because this set of Avengers seems to be stepping back to the days of "I give a crap" that I've missed for more than a Decade.

Doc Strange finding safe harbor with friends,... The intro of Squirrel girl and Wong as support cast, The gradual "Standing Down" of Cage,
(I need to explain this - the character to me has always kept himself to a higher responsibility standard than he expects from others, and it's good writing to have him realize that he can depend/accept help from others at the level that he gives - even if it is a painful process - her was set down hard TWICE in this issue.),
The subtle back history that was hinted by Damage Control and Wolverine.

I'm looking forward to this book now on a monthly basis,.. just like Thunderbolts,.. Just like Big Time Spiderman, just like the PMIF and H4H.

I'm quite willing to give Props for good writing and that last issue had it.

He threatened to quit the team once he found out Hand used to be the #2 for Osborn. There was a quick debate about Norman and Victoria Hand basically said she believed Osborn had some great ideas to keep the country safe but in the end was a sick man that broke laws and now he's paying for it. She was half reasonable and half sympathetic regarding Osborn (and the reason Spidey hates him). It kinda ended there.

It was in character for Peter to react the way he did - he has a justified "zero tolerance" policy in regards to Osborn.

Hand is calming down - and her explanation, the spiders response, and the casual acceptance of Petes concerns by the rest of the group - is more of the "I give a crap" I'm typing about.

Wong is NOT Jarvis. Squirrelgirl is not Madam Harkness - It should be interesting to read what kinda hurting happens when someone tries to invade Avengers mansion while the main team is out.

On that topic: Does anyone know if this group of Avengers will have a tech staff? one group has Stark, Another has Pym. If it comes to a vote - I nominate Peter Parker. Have Steve Rodgers realize the need and get pointed at Peter to spend some time getting familiar with the Avengers tech base,... Maybe have T'Challa come in from Hells Kitchen and give him some tips on the stuff he was familar with?

I'd rather see the old support screw come back. Michael O'Brien as head of Mansion security, Fabian as their inventor, Peggy Carter obviously is in a nursing home so she can't be there as head of Communications.

I just sat and reread the first 7 issues and I didn't realize how much I enjoyed this series until I did that. I'll really miss Immonen when he leaves but I just LOVE this team itself and the art and even the magic story (which I'm not usually big on) was pretty enjoyable (despite the predictable ending). And issue 7 was just fantastic. I love that they're getting an interesting supporting staff in Squirrel Girl, Wong, and Victoria Hand and I'm really enjoying the series overall.

For me, this is by far the best Avengers book on the market. Avengers and Secret Avengers pales horribly and, while Academy is decent, it isn't anywhere NEAR as interesting as this book.

Just thought I'd throw my thoughts out there.

Definately. His addition to the team helps tenfold. I've always loved Ben but get so bored with FF for some reason. But put him on the Avengers and I'm loving it. I actually find myself EAGER to read what happens next.

I want to see a Thing/Iron Fist fastball special with Wolverine watching on jealous

Academy is by far the best. I'll give this book it's props, easily the 2nd best Avengers book. Academy will probably be canceled in 6 months so NNA will probably be top dog by then. Secret Avengers is one Rulk away from being a bad book and regular Avengers....? Well, I'll come back when the Hood is gone and it gets another writer. Bendis is spreading himself too thin.

Academy easily blows all of the others out of the water for me. Pym, Quicksilver, some interesting students, and no Bendis. Golden.

Academy, for the most part, kinda bores me. It's the second best but New Avengers greatly overpowers it in my opinion. I like New's cast a lot better and for the most part I find the Academy's staff uninteresting. I like Veil and, to a lesser extent, Stryker and Mettle, but that's about as far as it goes. I like Justice, Speedball, and Quicksilver, but for some reason I can't get into them in that book. I hold on hoping that it will grow on me, and it has, but not nearly to the level of New Avengers.

i agree with jh,i do prefer new avengers..the cast just has a great dynamic to it.
for some reason tho the avengers main title doesnt seem like its really lifted off yet.

The art's too distracting for me. Romita used to be so good and then I don't know what happened but it just got ugly or something. And I really can't get into most the characters save Spider-Man and Spider-Woman, and to a smaller extent Hawkeye. Bendis on New Avengers feels like something's happening naturally. On Avengers he is horrible with his cliched problems that drives everyone nuts. The story drags out and the conversations are as annoying as can be. I'm not really sure I want to continue that book and am debating on dropping it. The only thing keeping me from it is I love New Avengers and you know they're going to impact each other so I like knowing what's going on.

Academy, for the most part, kinda bores me.

That's because you were never interested in the Avengers before the Bendisvengers and you're not into most of the characters. Academy is the closest thing to a classic Avengers comic we've got right now as far as tone goes, and I love seeing Hank Pym treated as a flawed but genuinely heroic and competent individual. The characters are all meshing really well together, too, so even the characters I'm not really over the moon about are still fun to read.

2. New (Much better than Avengers, it goes to show Bendis should really just do a street level Avengers book and leave the big wig adventures to someone else.)
3. Secret (Eh. It's neither here or there yet for me. I like numerous people on the roster, but they just feel kinda bland.)
4. Avengers (What is this book and why is it called Avengers?)

I'd agree. Secret Avengers is a real disappointment so far. Such a great cast but such underwhelming stories so far.
