Ant-Man The Official Ant-Man News and Speculation Thread - Part 6

I thought Ant-Man took place around the same time as The Avengers: AoU?

The synopsis for AOU says that Tony "jumpstarts a dormant peacekeeping program." That could be your Pym connection. Since Howard Stark is apparently appearing in Ant Man, just say that Pym and Howard did a lot of the early work on "proto-Ultron." The project was shut down for whatever reason, but then Tony finds in, update/upgrades it, and uses it to created Spader-tron.

For all the pissing and moaning people directed at unhappy Pym fans over his seeming non-involvement in Ultron's creation, this would be a super-simple & effective compromise.

I'd be plenty happy with it anyway.

Pym being involved in a prototype Ultron in the past sounds simple enough. Sounds better than Ultron being made from some left over chitauri tech.

It was never stated that Ultron comes from Chitauri tech. It was said that the initial AI was found "in the aftermath of the Chitauri invasion." And remember that Tony hacked into and downloaded most of SHIELD's files, so he could have stumbled across it there.

You're missing my point, if you read my post properly rather that hastily quoting it, you'll realise I don't suggest Pym be introduced in AOU, I said it could be a mystery as to who created it, as of right now, we the public do not know who created it, my point is, leave it unanswered and because Ant-Man officially ends phase 2 it could explain that there that Pym created it back in the day or whatever. You have to remember, this Ant-Man movie is responsible for the entire MCU existing, the script for this movie has existed long before any other MCU movie, it was apparently that good the went ahead with their own movie production company and made the MCU a reality, this movie was always gonna happen way before Iron Man 1 was even green lit.
Plus I can't help but wonder what big storyline change Marvel wanted that made Edgar Wright depart this movie after he spent years of his life working on it, has to be something juicy for him to leave the project, a fellow Hero cameo or name drop isn't juicy enough for him to leave in my opinion. It has to be something that wasn't envisioned before the MCU started. Plus, Ant-Man is a bit of a slap in the face to his true fans, they've changed a lot from the source material, the fact Pym is in his 70's or whatever, no Janet e.t.c, to have an Ant-Man movie that has already deviated from the source material so much, to have that movie come out just 2 months after a movie with Ultron and not have them connected in any way but the shared universe would be a real stinker.

It seems more like Wright spent an excessively amount of time faffing about on the project instead of just getting it done, rather "devoting years of his life to it".

What I don't understand is why Marvel didn't do something earlier. Look how far the project has come since Wright's departure.

That was a manip that someone did. Pym was really watching footage of Scott Lang getting arrested.

So it was - I had only seem the reader once and seen that Ultron pic several times so I got them mixed up. ;)

Chitauri tech or not, I really like how the events of the first Avengers really had an impact on the whole MCU. We've seen the aftermath of that pay off in so many ways, hell, even in Agents of SHIELD alone on multiple occasions. I hope the same things happens after AoU.

Although, I do agree with you, I would prefer if they mention Pym being involved in the prototype somehow.

Slight correction: "hidden among the ruins of the Chitauri invasion". That seems to imply more that the program was found within some facility that was destroyed during the Battle of New York, rather than from some destroyed remains of Chitauri tech (as most people infer). The former might belong to Pym and where he designed the program.

Also to add to the Hank/Howard theory, in the first episode of Agent Carter, while too early for Pym, Howard Stark admits he has a lot of 'bad babies' and stated he's had to build whatever he thinks off so if he a Pym come up with it together, he's at least going to start doing it....maybe even finish it and then lock it away with his other 'bad babies'....just a thought.

You guys saw the Ant Man select figure on the main page? Looks great, I collect select figures so I'm excited to grab that one this summer.

Here's the first Ant-Man figure from Diamond.

Is that site hot linking to another site hosting an ad for anyone else?

I like the eerie guitar playing throughout it

I think it would work well in this flick.
The guitar part is 'insect creepy'.
And the theme of the lyrics is about making the wrong and/or right decisions. Would fit really well.

Marvel,....make it so!!

Would be fine with me.

Pym hid it away in New York. The giant Chitauri dragon thing crashed into a building and unearthed it.

SHIELD starts the clean up and Stark gets ahold of the peace keeping program.

A bit sloppy at parts but that's why Joss is in charge

I had this idea as well. In the comics, Howard devised a robotic system called Arsenal that was hidden away in a secret basement vault, which Tony later had to fight. I wonder if Ultron might originate from that (and maybe Pym helped?).
