This is definitely not a sign of desperation. They are just trying to tell the general audience that Ant-man is in the same league as the rest of the Avengers.

It's called marketing. It's no different than when trailers say "From the director of....[some movie decades ago that has no relation to the current movie and same director has made 5 crap movies since then]"

I like those Cap, Thor and IM ones...they remind me of the marketing for Lilo & Stitch back in the day, where Stitch invaded other Disney movies. XD

Having reviewed over that site, I am actually thinking its just some movie fan guy like any of us with no industry connection or anything. All the reviews I skimmed are extremely general / generic, like someone has read up on the plot synopsis, watched the trailers, read some spoilers and put 2+2 together.. nothing to suggest they've actually *seen* anything off early test screenings or anything.

That said, I may be wrong and hope he is right.

No offense taken or even contemplated. You might very well be on target.

WRT to TWS v T(not so)ASM2 and other movies, here are my ratings from top to bottom:

There are people on Twitter and other sites saying these new posters are somehow a sign of desperation and lack of confidence.

Some people are are trying really hard to come up with reasons to hate this film for some reason.

Ant-Man is joining the Avengers and was an Avenger in the comics. Highlighting that Ant-Man will be Avengers related isn't desperation

I suppose they don't want common sense to get in the way of their irrational hatred because they think it makes they look cool

most of humanity say things without thinking or using common sense now a days. some people legitimately also hate thiings that are successful like Marvel is right now so they try to poke holes in everything... Only to eat their words AGAIN.

I saw the 6 minute Imax preview btw, it was ok, not what I would have chosen to show off but it shows some of the comedy elements.

Funny how some people who know nothing think they know everything. Or as my father once said "How come there are so many more horse's asses than there are horses?"

Leaving in about an hour to go see Jurassic at the TCL Chinese IMAX (new IMAX digital projector). I'm more excited to see the 6 minute trailer than I am the movie

One thing about this theater (don't remember if I put it in my review or not) is that it doesn't use the linear 3D glasses used by the film projectors. That's a good thing in my book because if you tilt your head with those glasses, it causes a lot of ghosting because of the angle at which the light passes through. I don't know if the glasses they give you are the standard circular 3D glasses for the Real 3D projections. I don't think they are, but I'm going to take a pair and find out for sure.

Before the movie, I've got an appt with the manager and am going to try to get her to set it up so I can get into the projector room and snap a few pics. It'll probably take awhile as corporate has to sign off on it. Maybe by the time Ant-Man comes out, I can take my camera down there and get some pictures as well as some detailed technical specs on the new IMAX technology.

I'm stoked about the 6 minute clip and will weigh in when I get home.

The world premiere is on June 29th, and I believe there's a press event a couple of days before that. I think we'll get the first reactions around then.

I think the movie will be just fine, what I'm worried about is the superhero fatigue with critics. They usually judge in the context of when a certain film is released, instead of focusing on the movie itself.

I noticed that as well they really played up the comedy angle in the IMAX preview before Jurassic World.

I'm a little upset that there appears to be no Bill Foster in this movie as a background/supporting character.

I was hoping they would follow the comicbook route and have it where he was a supporting character to Hank Pym with the eventual setup for him to become Goliath/Giant-man, but I'm starting to think that's not going to be the case.

Me too. I saw the trailer yesterday at Jurassic and rather liked it. If it didn't emphasize funny, some would say it was too serious....whatever. Jurassic was entertaining too. For those of you who want to say it wasn't realistic enough because this, that, or the other thing wasn't blah, blah, blah ..........helloooooo!!!! They're cloning frelling dinos that never existed and adding frog DNA or whatever.

I've already got my Ant-Man ticket way up close at the TCL Chinese where no one else will bother me.

What really pissed me off was that (and this would probably be a plus for most of you) ONE OF THE FRELLING BRAND NEW FRACKING IMAX FRELLING CAMERAS TOOK A FRACKING DUMP AND I HAD TO FRELLING WATCH IT ON A 96' SCREEN IN 2D.....ARRGGGGGGGGHHHHH......

OK........I feel better now. Still trying to get in touch with corporate to find out whether i can get the same access to the projection room and detailed tech specs. via an interview, that Cinemark gave me. I made some progress, but really thought I'd be further ahead in the game than I am. This theater kicks and I really want to update my review of it.
