Ant-Man The Official Ant-Man News and Speculation Thread - Part 9

I saw Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, and Age of Ultron once in theaters. The First Avenger once, The Winter Soldier and Guardians 4 times, Ant-Man twice, soon to be 4 times, and The Avengers 7 times. XD Thank goodness for free movie tickets from friends!

MCU has been getting more of my money as time went on. I saw IM and the Hulk together in my movie hoppin days. Missed IM 2, Thor and Cap 1 once. Avengers 3 times, IM twice, TDW twice, TWS 3 times, Guardians once, Ultron twice and Ant-Man twice.

There's only one MCU film I've seen only once in theaters
I probably saw Iron Man 5 or 6 times, The Incredible Hulk twice, Iron Man 2 something like 6/8 times, Thor 4 times, CATFA 3 times, The Avengers twice on opening day (stayed in the theater for the next showing) 6 times all in all, Iron Man 3 5 times, TTDW once, CATWS 5 times, GoTG twice, AOU 6 times (but I bought like 30 tickets for the film) and Ant-Man twice (so far).

Unlimited theaters subscriptions are a good thing let me tell you.

I think starting with the first Thor movie we've tried for seeing at least twice in theaters, sometimes more (the first Avengers film I think we topped out at 6 or 7 times). Iron Man & Iron Man 2 I think we saw just once. The Incredible Hulk we didn't even see in the theater.

I saw all three Iron Man movies twice each in theaters, both Thor movies once each, both Cap movies once each, Incredible Hulk once, Ant-Man once, Age of Ultron twice, GOTG three times, and The Avengers six times in theaters (my record for most theater viewings).

I saw IM, TIH, IM2, Thor, TFA, and GOTG once each in theatres. I saw TA and TWS three times each, and AOU twice. I didn't get to see IM3 (college) or TDW (personal issues) in theatres at all, but I own them both on Blu-ray.

Loved this film!!

Still know a couple people that won't see it until it hits netflix or something. They think it should have been PYM not LANG

Back from seeing it for the second time. Just as awesome as it was the first time (though unlike the first time, this time I had an annoying punk kid frequently kicking my seat). This time around I managed to catch
the shadow/silhouette while he's shrinking in the Quantum Realm/when he activates the growing disc to escape the Quantum Realm. I agree with those that think it looked like Wasp's shape/figure

It's just a fun movie with a theme of family at it's core.

And I don't think I'm ever going to get tired of that post-credit scene

[blackout]Bring on Civil War and more Bucky!!!![/blackout] :oldrazz:

I really wanted to see Pym instead of Lang because I wasn't familiar with Lang but that didn't stop me from watching this film. It had one really cool Pym scene. I was happy with it.

I hate it when that happens. And regarding the spoiler.

I too thought that could be Wasp and I almost believed they were going to pull a Big Hero Six and bring her back. I don't know if you saw that film.

I think the fact that Lang returns from the Quantum Realm is a strong hint that Janet isn't dead and she will be back in the sequel. And both Douglas and Lilly have also offered their take on who should play their missing wife/mother as well.

Yeah by the end of the film, I thought they were probably going to bring her back considering there was a scene with Hank Pym thinking hard about what happened. But I thought Lang would bring her back when he returned, and not wait until the sequel or something. It's fine, as long as they bring her back sometime in the future, everything is fine.

Sucks for them. They're missing a great film. This is definitely one of my favorite MCU films. Without a doubt.

I am pretty happy to report that as much as it's always rubbed me the wrong way I'm pretty happy with the end result. I'll probably still grumble about it occasionally though, unless I get to see Giant Michael Douglas smashing someone through a building. I might be able to let it go after that.

After the success of GOTG and Ant-Man, two very obscured properties, I hope this will silent the naysayers who keep underestimating Marvel's ability to turn unknowns into household names.

Agreed, I loved it and the more I think about it the more I like it. It may well e my favourite MCU origin movie.

don't count on it. despite their track record, there will always be people who will think that the next property - whatever it is - will be doomed to fail

Farci said that Pym was possibly going to be killed off in Edgar's version which is why Douglas is one of the few MCU main actors to only have a one movie contract.

I think some fans would of been seriously angry if they killed off Hank & Janet without getting much of a showing in the films.
At least Marvel left them open to come back in the future.

I'm getting a similar vibe based on a few things here and there. I'm wondering if the original script having Pym both turning out to be evil and being killed off in the third act isn't the main reason of those "creative differences" and not just Lang being more morally ambiguous in Wright's version.
I'm pretty sure Marvel has plans to use the Pyms further in the expansion of the Marvel Universe wether it's on TV or in other movies or maybe even in a direct sequel down the line. The problem is that they probably realized that later on leading them to order script changes during production, antagonizing Wright in process. I wouldn't be surprised if Douglas played an important part in that as well seeing how enthusiastic he is about the role.

Now as much as I think that a Cross is another weak/expandable vilain in the Marvel canon and usually love clever deviations from the source material, I think there's obviously too much potential to develop with the Pym's story to go that way.

I found the film nothing more than decent, sadly.

Plot was servicable. I like that it was a much smaller scale threat and allowed the characters to interact and prepare. I thought the heist angle was fun to the point that I wish it was a bit more complex. The Avengers tie-in scene was obviously shoe-horned in but fun enough not to bother me. I like that Pym had Scott attempt to rob him to test his skills, but I don't get why Pym would opt to have Scott Lang escape from prison and become a fugitive rather than just drop the charges.

Thin villain again. What was supposed to have happened to Cross? He seemed like a straight forward resentful apprentice but toward the end there were references to him being messed up by the Pym particle... When and how? That was an unecessary addition in my opinion.

As for the cast, it was a mixed bag. Michael Douglas is Michael Douglas. No complaints there. I love Rudd but he felt too subdued in the role, and Evangeline Lily was annoying as Hope. I enjoyed the side-kick thieves despite T.I. being a terrible actor.

Think I came out of this feeling exactly as I feared I would: It wasn't a disaster, but it could have been gold if only Edgar Wright saw the project through.

Disappointing year for Marvel.

Can I at least have my concerns about how in Cap 3 there will be too many characters and Cap will likely get lost in the mix in his own movie? I had a slight feeling of this with TWS (as great as it is) because Cap had to share so much with Fury, BW, Shield.... but Civil War seems like it'll crank that factor to 11.

Hank Pym wasn't evil in Edgar's version.

I have no idea why people keep assuming the character would become a villain because he was never one in the comics and it really wouldn't make sense in the father/daughter parallel story they are telling in Ant-Man

It is highly likely Hank
probably got shot and killed by Cross in Edgar's version instead of being injured
as cliché motivation for Lang.

I would love to read the version of the script that you obviously got to read to give such a definitive answer to something that was obviously speculation on my end.

Point is there's been rumors about it. How much of this is true or not is up in the air unless you got Wright's script in hands.

Wright said Hank wasn't a villain in his movie when he was attached. The villain in Wright's version was an original character called Nano-Warrior.

The Hank as a villain speculation seemed to have possibly come about for a number of reasons.

Someone probably got wind of hearing Yellowjacket was the villain when McKay/Rudd rewrote the film and assumed it meant Hank.

Marvel has had villain twists in their previous films and people thought they would do it again with Hank Pym.

People wanting him as a villain as they think his evil because he created Ultron, went crazy and hit his wife in the comics.

Everything Wright and later Reed said in regards to the the charcter contradicted this speculation though

Pretty good hold this weekend. Especially when you consider that MIRN did a lot better than a lot of people said it would. Just under a 50% drop. People really like this movie and it's showing. I think it'll be pushing 150M DOM in another week (under that, but pushing). I see it easily crashing 160 and maybe 170 before all is said and done. I haven't calc'ed anything out (other than roughly in my head), but that's my guess at this point.

Oddly enough, AM might actually help FF opening weekend because of the Marvel tag, but I expect that the reviews aren't going to be stellar and I could see FF taking a big hit because of that. I see it heavily front loaded and falling like The Thing in the FF trailer soon thereafter.
