I know it's weird because they really nailed the Penguin

I know! Such a shame, I have a Penguin on it's way to me right now. Had to have one, but they really dropped the ball on Batman. Hopefully we'll get a Returns version and some improvements will be made.

^I'm still holding out for a Hot Toys version of Keaton from Batman Returns...

Pfeiffer-Pfan…your posts are the only reason I visit this board…well mostly.

Aww... Thanks! :hrt:

Except that there IS a connection; that the two films take place in the same universe.

There's a part in the movie where they show a photograph of Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman while Halle Berry's Catwoman is discovering where her powers came from. Sure, it's just a history lesson, but BR's Catwoman is being very clearly referenced, and it's pretty clear to me that the 2004 Catwoman movie drew inspiration from BR when concerning Catwoman's powers.

Actually, Leenie, there has never been anything that definitively claimed Catwoman was in any way connected to Batman Returns.

The only true connection (which explains the photograph and ''powers'') is the fact that Denise Di Novi was the producer and had a strong influence behind the scenes.

Well, if they didn't mean to have these two movies connected, then it was preeeeeetttttyyy dumb to have the photograph in the first place. It was also dumb to have this Catwoman possess the same powers as the BR Catwoman.

But we are talking about the Catwoman movie here, so I guess the dumb decision fits. :funny:

I think the people behind the 04 Catwoman wanted an easter egg (IE the photograph) and thought that's only how Catwoman gets her "powers".

but holy crap this is probably the most i've seen people talk about that Catwoman movie. I feel like I need to take a shower. :csad:

^Which proves that the people involved with the film had no knowledge of the character or the comics. No wonder why the movie was such a disaster ...

I've only seen a couple of scenes from the Halle Berry movie. So she actually gets swarmed by cats and has nine lives like Batman Returns?

Well, if they changed her name in the movie then im sure they had knowledge of Selina in the comics, they just chose a different path.

yup...and it played like a music video from the early 2000s.

I don't remember if they touch on the nine lives thing (it's been such a long time since I've seen the movie; and I don't plan on watching it again, haha), but the way Halle Berry is revived is almost exactly like how Selina Kyle was revived in BR. She develops cat-like tendencies too, just like Selina Kyle in BR.

They play up the supernatural angle more than Burton ever did (Many would even argue against a supernatural element in Returns)... A cat actually breathes his life-force into Berry to resuscitate her.

She can then leap huge heights, crave tuna and squeeze through bars like Cats.

I never even thought there was a supernatural element to it when I watched it. It wasn't until I came here that I heard that theory. Burton even talks about it in his commentary, and laughs it off, saying that was never his intent.

I dunno, I still don't see it that way.

I agree... I never saw it that way myself.

In Catwoman, yes. But not Batman Returns.

Yeah, that's been thoroughly debunked. There was no supernatural elements at all in Batman Returns.

Yeah, I never believed the zombie Catwoman none sense with "the cats licking her back to life". I've always assumed that the awnings slowed down the fall and impact of Selina hitting the ground, which then left her unconscious. Then the alley cats woke her up by biting and licking her fingers. I believe Selina Kyle only died in a psychological sense but was then reborn as Catwoman that same night

Except Bruce doesn't miraculously survive eight deaths throughout the movie...

This has been debunked, as well. Catwoman never died.

1st 'death' - the awnings broke her fall
2nd 'death - kitty litter broke her fall
3rd 'death' - glasshouse/vegetable garden broke her fall
4th, 5th, 6th, 7th 'death' - shot by Max Shreck - missed vital organs
8th 'death' - it looks like she's not actually touching the generator.. also could be the same principle as a bird on a telephone wire, the circuit isn't completed so she doesn't get an electric shock

What's interesting about the last death was that originally Selina didn't survive and at the last minute in post production they added her in the final shot of the movie, which I'm sure you probably knew already. Heck even the comic book adaptation suggested Selina died. I think one of the panels even showed two bodies fried at a distance as Bruce acknowledges 'em being both Max and Selina. So originally Selina/Catwoman was suppose to die, but Burton and co. had a change of heart and kept her alive for sequels and spin-offs.

I still can't believe how much it cost to put that last shot of Catwoman in.

All to ensure that they could make a sequel or spin-off featuring her character...

heh heh heh

It was meant to be left ambiguous. Not totally spelled out for the audience, until the studio decided they might want to make a Catwoman movie or bring her back for a sequel so they inserted that last shot in.

You can tell she is alive though, because you see her shadow on the wall, which is clearly Catwoman. And the cat Bruce Wayne picks up is Miss Kitty, which is Selina Kyle's pet. She obviously left Miss Kitty for Bruce Wayne to take care of, and maybe something to remember her by.

Agreed, I have always thought this.

There is no way anybody could survive a fall like that, and then get up and walk away. I dont care what universe it is, that would be stupid. So for me, she is resurrected by cats. Which is dumb anyway, but this is a universe where monsters exist. When somebody falls from tall heights in these movies...dead is dead.
