Love those covers. Compared to what we get today, they are works of art.

I'm too busy with work at the minute, but I'll be giving this a watch soon to celebrate the 25th anniversary.

I never understood why people were so hard on it for its depiction of the Penguin when the Nolan trilogy did so much reinterpreting, not to mention other popular and recent comic films that do it.

If anything, Returns sort of redefined the design of the Penguin over the past 25 years. Even if he may not act as foul as DeVito's Penguin, he still has that grotesque look to him in many incarnations since then, namely BTAS and the Arkham games.

This is my favorite Bat film, everything about it was perfect.

As far as Batman goes, I don't think anything in TDKT is as fundamentally altered as Burton's Penguin. Other than him being from an aristocratic family, there's pretty much nothing about him that's pulled from the comics. Which I don't have a problem with because I found the version so compelling, but I can understand why someone wouldn't like it or the movie in general. It's kind of an acquired taste.

BTAS didn't want to use it. Timm was forced to use that design by WB to help promote Returns;

The fact of the matter is they wanted to make Penguin as different from the comics as they could according to DeVito;

'Upon their first meeting, it became apparent that the director wanted a characterisation that bore little or no resemblance to previous Penguins. ''The last thing I wanted to hear from Tim was that we were going to do the Penguin from the comic book or the TV series,'' recalls DeVito.'

Unlike today comic book movies were few and far between and this was a highly anticipated sequel that it probably took many people off guard.

Man, can't believe it has been 25 years

I remember my parents taking me to go see it at this one theater that is no longer around. It got replaced by a Pat & Oscars about 15+ years ago.

The amount of action figures and collectibles that came out for this movie was insane! My parents and grandparents would take me to different McDonald's 2 to 3 times a week so I could complete the toy and cup collection

Good times

The film that introduced me to Batman. Still one of my favorites. Gonna watch it again to celebrate 25th Anniversary too.

Man, this is stunning. I still want this kind of Gotham to return in future Batman films.

I remember seeing Batman Returns as a kid and being put off by the grotesqueness of DeVito's Penguin and how dark the story was. I appreciate it now too, and wouldn't mind a return to the more Gothic-looking Gotham of Burton. Burton's Batman movies are really a singular piece of work and I think in this day and age people would actually enjoy a revisit to his take on the character, just as something different from the other superhero fare.

My favorite of the two Burton films, I've always preferred this over Batman 89. I remember back when this came out going to my local video store and them promoting it with someone there dressed in the Keaton suit. I was a happy kid that day :word:

I can remember time when i thought i was one of few who loved batman returns:ilv:

intresting is out of pre nolan batman films returns has biggest rt score.

Batman returns is my favorate of original batman films and remains my seocnd favorate film with batman.only dark knight beats it.yes i still love returns more than batman begins or the dark knight rises.

As a kid I didn't really notice the grotesqueness of the Penguin, hand-giving and nose-biting aside, or his or Catwoman's sexual puns. The only thing I thought was pretty scary/intense was Selina tearing up her room-and I thought that was exciting!

I love that the film tries to make you sorry for the Penguin even after you know he's a bad guy.

Agreed. The movie was a 15 when it came out here, I was 12 and managed to sneak in to see it with my older brothers. As I then grew up I kinda forgot about it and then rediscovered it growing up. I still like it a lot and it's my favourite non Nolan Batman movie.

i was 18 when it came out.it has remained my favorate batman film that isn't the dark knight.still prefer it over begins and dark knight rises.

keaton is combination of early pre robin comics,dark knight returns,and the 1990's batman in comics.pfeiffer is great.best live action catwoman ever.and devito is something different.

batman returns is true example of filmmaker left off his lease.this was burton at his peak.

it is possable to love 2 different interptions as i love burton and nolan's takes on batman.

I always felt bad for the Ice Princess in this scene. What a terrible way to go. Plus she was pretty hot. That scene made me hate Penguin in that movie. "I thought you were just going to scare her." "She looked pretty scared to me."

I think if Hamm's script version had been made it would have felt at least about as dark if not darker, with Catwoman killing so many people, although indeed less cynical.

To me a big part of what makes Batman really good is that it often does have social-political commentary, although often from an independent or cynical view rather than a partisan view, so I loved that that was prominently included.
