Batman Returns The Official Batman Returns Thread - Part 4

I’m still waiting for a Burton line from McFarlane. I’ve only gotten the Batman and Joker from the TDK Trilogy line so far, but I’d buy every Burton figure day one.

awesome lego set!

my friend sent me a link about this set this morning.

then i went grocery shopping around noon, and the workers at the cash register were talking about this set with each other as well. lol.

they probably weren't even born yet when keaton played batman.

burton's batman is truly forever. :ybat:

I just want the figures... why does Catwoman have a hole in her head?

It's really cool to see all the Burton/Keaton era Batman getting new love, but I'm not really excited about this Lego set...

I get the joke of giving this new Batman figure a cowl that doesn't allow him to turn the head and I think it looks pretty cool, but otherwise I find this big black box to be a bit dull. I would have liked some snow or circus colors to truly recapture the atmosphere of the film.
Alfred, Shreck and Catwoman are recognizable but the Penguin doesn't really scream De Vito...
And while the batmobile is objectively beautiful, I can't help but think that these MOCs have more definition :

Even crazier when it comes to this film in particular :

I know I sound like a spoiled brat ahah, but at 400 dollars a set (!), I honestly think it could have been ... better?

The LEGO community seems to not like the Batman Returns Bat-Cave set, on the whole.

Tough crowd, or is it just not good? What do you guys think?

I love it, personally.

Goddammit, if only I had been born like five years sooner (and in Australia, apparently) so I could’ve enjoyed this stuff.

It's hilarious to me that McDonald's fully embraced the grotesque DeVito Penguin for their Happy Meal toys whether it was in the U.S. or Australia but Kenner didn't want any of that smoke with the official Batman Returns toy line.

We've got three distinctly separate continuations from Batman Returns...

Batman Forever (1995 movie)

Batman '89 (2021 comic book ~ ignores Batman Forever/Batman & Robin)

The Flash (2023 movie ~ again, ignores Batman Forever/Batman & Robin)

Which do people prefer? How would you rate them?

For me,

The Flash
7.5/10 I liked this. I can definitely see how Burton's Batman could have ended up this way.

Batman Forever 6.5/10 I know Burton planned for a Robin at one point when he was still on board, but nevertheless we didn't get one, and for me his Batman works best alone. Also, the tone is completely wrong. I liked Kilmer, though.

Batman '89 comic 4/10 Six-part mini-series, written by Samm Hamm, but definitely missing that Burton vibe. Gotham doesn't look like Burton's Gotham, the characters don't feel like Burton's characters, and likenesses of the actors are inconsistent (and never good). Plus, again, there's a Robin. According to Jim Lee several creators proposed comics set in the Burtonverse over the years; hard to believe this is the one DC went with.

Finally, after years of searching - I scored the Hot Toys Batman Returns for a steal at $250. He is in pristine condition - not a flaw anywhere. The guy who had it before clearly took care of it or never took him out of the box.

He looks amazing next to my DX19 Dark Knight Trilogy Batman. Now, to get Pattinson's Batman to round out my lineup!

These are the cleanest pictures i ever saw someone take from a figure, WOW.
The Figure looks incredible.

How do you think Clooney Batman or O'Donnell Robin would react to Pfeiffer Catwoman?

For years I'd thought Selina says 'How about a kiss, Anti-Claus?', further adding to the film's many instances of cute wordplay and punnery. I was mildly disappointed to find that all drafts of the script with that line in it have her saying 'Santey Claus' instead lol. It's a shame because I always thought Anti-Claus was a particularly clever jibe.

With even harder nipples.

I'm so ashamed I made that joke. Not much out of bad taste, but because I'm the first to complain about these films being always reduced to this detail...heh... there's thing I just can't control.

Funnily enough I rewatched Batman Returns last night, and that 'Anti-Claus' (as I also thought!) particularly stood out for some reason!

I choose to believe Michelle changed it on set, because it's better writing if it's "anti-Claus."

Now I can't unhear her saying 'Anti-Claus'. You guys are so clever.
