The real reason I liked Hulk's defeat was that Pak handled it in a way that it would be a moment of character growth and not a pissing contest. I.E. "Mah favooriiite beet uuuuurs!!! Lawl!" I've been a fan of the Hulk forever (according to my mom; me, mom and my sister watched the the Bill Bixby TV show often, and I've seen almost every animated appearance of ol' Jade Jaws) and throughout my time, I've loved the struggle of the character, so I've always been annoyed about how whether or not he's lost has been elevated in past debates here and elsewhere. It's like the notches on his belt mattered more than the character moments. The Hulk has incredible, nigh-infinite strength and is practically unkillable, but that's not what keeps me interested in him. It's that balance of being so powerful, with being human; struggling for love and acceptance, wanting to get the well deserved recognition for saving lives countless times over, being at peace with who and what he is. I think what's rather telling is that all this didn't happen in a guest book where things were most likely tipped in the favour of the book's star, but rather this was written by a writer with a great understanding of the Hulk and in his own book. I think this will only add to Banner& Hulk's depth and make for more moments that move all the Hulk family forward. At this point, regressing to Savage would be a travesty; there's just so much that can be done with a smart Hulk, and for a while now, Pak has been brilliantly showing us that.
