The Official Choose A Director Thread

I heard Morrison's name in terms of new DC collaborators, and though I know he did ALL STAR SUPERMAN, I immediately thought he had been brought on for the troubled JLA project. Just because Johns, Wolfman, and Morrison came onboard doesn't mean they came onboard for immediate films. Johns is involved in THE FLASH, and worked on GREEN LANTERN some. I'm guessing Wolfman is working on their TEEN TITANS project, and Morrison on JLA, though I could almost see Wolfman consulting on Superman and JLA as well. I'll bet WB still wants some major writer/director team to tackle Superman. Wouldn't hate being wrong, but I just don't see Grant Morrison being WB's go to guy for Superman.

I think if anything Morrison will be working on the story. If you take the example of Johns on the flash, hes writing the story outline and I think its Dan Muzeau (sp?) which IESB announced is writing the script. They're probably trying to copy the Batman model with goyer being the go to guy for the story.

I don't know. I'm just saying Morrison doesn't strike me as a Superman consultant, simply based on his ALL STAR work.

Well ya who knows what the three of them are all doing, but ya it wouldnt hurt if them/other dc supes writers do a draft/treatment and are invovled with what ever screen writers come on board to polish off the draft so they can work together and keep the best comics elements in and best movie wise stuff in and make a well rounded film.

McTeigue as Director and the Wachowskis as Producers would work, but the Wachowskis need to be kept OUT of the directors chair for damn sure. I wonder what other directors are on this supposed short list?

The film will have great action and effects, but the story needs to be fun but have some drama and soul.

No silly cheesiness and lameness with a stupid plot like Transformers 2.....and NO rock music! This film still needs to be EPIC.

Indeed.

It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for the Superman franchise, as the Wachowskis are definitely big fans, and are capable of making an entertaining film with elements of depth to it.

We'll see.

Hmm...if this happens and IF Hugo Weaving is not cast as Sinestro in the GL film....then I wonder if the McTeigue/Wachowski team can snag Weaving for Braniac?

Intriguing to say the least IF this news does come to fruition.....

that would be a sweet casting for brainiac, i know alot of folks have said his name for both brainiac and sinestro. Hopefully things can pan out and actually happen before that deadline.

Also in other news i was over at slash film earlier and it looks like Mcteigue is going to direct the remake of The Raven next, though if it pans out that w bros and him are to be on supes i bet he could drop the raven project, or maybe it could be done at a short time frame, which i bet is possible, i dont see it being that big/long of a shoot in my mind.

Well, you know, McTiegue and the Wachowski's were part of a short list of other directors WB is looking at. I guess IESB meant that they were the top choices, maybe?

ya who knows hopefully we know sooner rather then later on whats happening, and if they are in it, maybe like i said if this raven film happens it could be done quick, or might even get dropped if they do supes. Really if you got the raven remake or have the chance to do a new superman film which would u do. Though the guy could be a huge fan of the raven i dont know.

Maybe, we'll see, but it's like FilmNerdJamie said, we are overlooking the fact that WB is fast tracking a Superman film. That's all Robert Sanchez is 100% sure of. The choice of the directors seems to be just speculation/possibilities on his part

I'm officially driving the McTiegue bandwagon.

Ya totally even though they do have that deadline and their is talks of fast tracking with all the no go we have gotten since SR. i wouldnt be surprised if we dont get something before the deadline comes. I have a slight hope they can but looking at the past doesnt look good. But if things are changing with dc having more hearsay in film's production maybe something could come about. Their is plently of time for something to go down. if they can get directors/script writers attached by end of the year, get a first draft done within that time frame so then they could spend say jan-jun 2010 search for cast, and hopefully nap all the right people they want for roles and then get it shoting late fall 2010-into 2011 when ever officially the 2011 deadline starts. By chance is it known when by 2011 a film has to be going does it mean has to have something shooting by jan 1st 2011 or do they have the full year of 2011 to get something shooting?

No i dont think their has been any more news on the iesb rumor.

I just hope this rumor is true. I've been having Michael Bay nightmares again.

Well bay has said before he doesnt want to do a superman film if i recall right, and we know what ever the next film will be and if the iesb rumor is true its likely will be reboot, which i so hope its a complete and total reboot with nothing from donner/singer. We know it will be more studio driven so it would be guys like jason and some others, who are some likely guys who are probably studio controlled types?

True, but our definition of a reboot may not be WB's definition of a reboot. We assume/hope it'll be a reboot like Batman Begins, with an origin, all new cast, etc.

Ya i hope it is a full on reboot like bb did with batman, like what SR should have been in 2006 instead of a quasi sequel to a 30+ yr film. I just really think if the plan is reboot they should do a full on reboot, so then it can help this next film distance itself as far away from SR as possible so it can have a better shot. But really if they are not going to do a full reboot, or try to do a routh boot like some would like, they might has well take their chances and then just do a sequel already then. But i rather have complete reboot.

I really think Michael has a robot fetish.
