for his comeback prize fight I hope.
hippie hunter said:Brad Bird directing a Superman film is pretty much a zero possibility.
After that. He's been asking around for the script by SaveSuperman's Steve.I thought Boll was busy with the Postal sequel.

Boll says it's probably his kind of material.
Richard Donner: Give Geoff Johns the Superman Movie
By Matt Brady
Speaking to the LA Times’ Geoff Boucher, Superman: The Movie director Richard Donner had a simple answer to the question of how to get the Superman movie franchise back on track: give it to Geoff Johns.
"I'd like to see Geoff Johns take a crack at the Superman...I think he would be startling,” Donner told Boucher. “Did you read his comics? There it is. It's there on paper."
But, Donner also laments that the studio (Warner Bros.) isn’t already doing this, saying: "The studio hasn't gone to him and said, 'Give us a screenplay.' That would be the smart thing to do, but that's show biz. Right? Show biz, that's our life."
To be fair, Donner did co-write Johns’ opening arc on DC’s Action Comics - “Last Son”, teaming with the writer who had previously worked in his office as an assistant. “Last Son” was noted by many fans and critics as being thematically in line with Donner’s original Superman film which starred Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder.
Since the opening story with Donner, Johns has been writing the series solo, bringing back such characters as Toyman, Bizarro, the Legion of Super-Heroes, and most recently, Brainiac, in which Superman's father Jonathan "Pa" Kent died in a manner reminiscent of Glen Ford's death in Superman: The Movie. The next storyline coming up is "New Krypton," which features the Kryptonian city of Kandor being transplanted on to the earth.
The storylines that Johns has written have all been noted for maintaining the feel (albeit updated) of the first Superman film.
Johns will be writing Superman on a screen in the coming months, as he is writing an upcoming episode of Smallville, which will introduce the Legion of Super-Heroes to the show.
As for the report that DC and Warner Bros. are looking to take Superman in a “darker” direction when they reboot the film franchise? Donner’s all for it.
“I do think you could probably take Superman into some other areas today,” Donner is quotes as saying. “I think maybe it's ready to break the mold slightly and bring a little greater sense of reality into it. Not contemporizing it to like today. Just making the heavies -- and the situation that is the tension piece -- a little more broken away from the comic-book character. It would take some tricky writing, some good acting and some good directing."
It's a good thing that Hollywood isn't listening to him.
Donner's comment about " Not contemporizing it to like today." implies that he thinks Superman should be a period peice. I don't want his interpretation. I wasn't exactly crazy about his run on Superman in the comics with Geoff.
If they wanted to bring in a comics writer... how about Gerry Conway, Roger Stern, Alan Moore, maybe even Frank Miller...
But, to tell the truth, I think the team of Timm and Dini would be more of a solid choice.
But, no, I do not consider Richard Donner the end all authority on Superman.
And, with that, you're entire post loses all credibility.
You really don't read Frank Miller Superman stories do you? Because if you read them you can see that Frank Miller pretty much hates Superman, hell in his interviews when he talks about Superman you can see that. Frank Miller is not the right person to do a Superman script, movie or comic book unless you want to see a dumb down Superman who says damn all the time and is to stupid to figure out he can fly (Frank Miller's words from ASBAR ) and is in love with Wonder Woman instead of Lois and always gets his ass kicked by Batman. The man should come no where near Superman. Thanks Souv and Loud, but my opinions don't rest on the approval of others.
Miller is a good writer for a particular style - he likes punch 'em ups but he does a bit a character development - albiet rough characters
Alan Moore, well - outside of the fact that he hates the movie media and he has a tendency to turn superheroes into gods, his 'Whatever Happened to the Man of Steel' was a well written turn at Superman and his Miracle Man series was deep in character development - unfortunately, he'd probably like the kid angle. You know, on second thought, I really wouldn't want to see a Moore written Superman movie.

I think this is good because I think it is about time Hollywood uses Comicbook writers! And I think G.Johns is indeed perfect for a flash movie but for Superman ? .... I don't know ... maybe there are people more suited for this ... but I think I wouldn't mind G.Johns writing a Superman film. It doesn't mean he would reproduce exactly what he did with te book, but it will prove that at least the writer of the story knows what he is talking about. Someone said Paul Dini or Timm and Co and I would rathe rgo in that direction .... I don't know.
I am only saying that it is a good thing to consider people who have already worked on the character in a effective way.
I doubt you’ll see any of the comic book writers getting a “screenwriter credit” on this new Superman project. I can see them as possible consultants or maybe even a story credit, writing and outline or treatment.
Also, Johns already pitched Superman to WB in 2007 along with other comic book writers, including Millar and they were all denied.
