I know that I am going to get flamed for this, but I think Watchmen was really boring, and not going to do as well as people think in the theatres. I got kinda bored reading the comic, it was interesting and thought provoking but boring. Hopefully I am wrong. It will have a strong weekend no doubt, but after that I'm not so sure. Either way, I don't think it will have any effect on getting Superman rebooted. If it does well, maybe Snyder will direct it.

Watchmen's basically being advertised as "a dark superhero adventure/action film" and/or "a dark X-Men" - which obviously it ain't.

The problem is that indeed the material is disturbing and thought provoking...and audiences aren't in the mood for that at the moment - especially when they're "tricked" into thinking a film is one thing when it clearly isn't.

When I first heard this was actually moving forward and would be insanely faithful to the comics, the first thing that came to my mind was, "This will be another Blade Runner or Fight Club!" And...I still feel that way.

I didn't think that Watchmen was boring but I did hate that Pirate comicbook that drastically slowed the pace of the story and I didn't care for the ending to much. I'm not in love with the Watchmen comicbook but I'm very interested in the movie for some reason.

I still see a huge (over 60mil) opening weekend for it, even if it has Hulk style legs. I get what you are saying Jamie and Show, you guys have a good point and you easily could be right but I'm just predicting differently right now.

I'm not really arguing legs right now, I'm arguing opening weekend. Hulk wasn't huge because of legs, not because of the 60mil opening weekend. Although I did and still do view that number as a disappointment.

Yeah did anyone ever care about 'The Black Freighter?' I thought it just detracted from the story, and not sure what it had to do with the Watchmen. I don't know, maybe I'm dense. But thank god they cut that from the movie, it's boring enough as it is with the slowing of that side story. And who is going to get that DVD? Please don't fanboys. They are really taking us for suckers. All they are doing is trying to suck money from us. Don't fall for it. haha. I dont think it did that well cause people still had a bad aftertaste after the horrible Ang Lee version. Im a big fan of TIH and am glad a lot of people are experiencing the movie from dvd sales.

The movie does look visually good but in no way truly captures the characters motivations or personalities. Which I never expected that it would, theres no way a film could ever live up to the book which is exactly why im not seeing the movie when i can just reach over and open the book.

From reading an advanced review a good comparison would be comparing the movie to the chick who plays Silk Specter II. Fun to look at but ultimately hollow. The movie does look visually good but in no way truly captures the characters motivations or personalities. Which I never expected that it would, theres no way a film could ever live up to the book which is exactly why im not seeing the movie when i can just reach over and open the book.

I would actually be okay with that. Unlike some people, I never thought Watchmen was ever going to rival TDK in quality or impact. The only thing I'm worried about is that the action scenes have not impressed me at all.

Theres a difference between making the scenes in the movie appear as close as they can to the scenes in the comics, and actually understanding the characters.

Yeah, but thats not why I feel Snyder gets it. From the interviews I've read, the clips I have seen and the information in the official film companion I can see that Snyder understands the material.

I realise that people like to discredit Snyder by calling him 'flashy' or even 'dumb' because people like to pretend that they are above all that stuff. Makes them feel intelligent.

Alternate reality stuff is a hard sell to average movie goers. I think they are going to fell out of a loop, when They get the idea this is a Superhero movie that takes place not only in the past, but also in an alternate world.



V for Vendetta, left some people confused and anoyed, I fear at times the same is going to happen with Watchmen, though the theame and story is very different.

It ticks me off that studio execs. will release a poorer version into theatres but then just go "oh thats ok the true film will be released on dvd". Well we shouldnt have to wait, even though im not even sure how much the directors cut will even add to the film.

True, but im also not ignoring the fact that a review reinforces some of my opinions. Now if other reviews come out that say the opposite then I may have to see it for myself. But for the time being, I dont feel i need to.
